Borgata Spring Poker Open Guarantees $3.5 Million, Begins April 2

Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa will once again crank up its Borgata Spring Poker Open (BSPO) on Apr. 2. The New Jersey casino will run 22 events through Apr. 19, with buy-ins ranging from $150 to $2,700 and a combined amount of guaranteed prizepool money exceeding $3.5 million.

Individual events feature guarantees that can reach as high as $1 million. BSPO tournaments can be almost any type of event, such as bounty tournaments, H.O.S.E. events, Pot-limit Omaha, and plenty of No-limit hold’em.

How to qualify for the Borgata Spring Poker Open

BorgataPoker.com will be the place to qualify for some live tournament action at a bargain price. Players can head to the virtual tables on a computer or on a mobile device.

Online satellites will run from March 17 through April 15. The BSPO kicks off with a $600 buy-in event with a $1 million guaranteed prize pool and six starting flights.

The site will also run qualifiers for the $1 million guaranteed Spring Poker Open Championship, which features a $2,700 buy-in. BorgataPoker.com features daily online satellites for as low as $5 and offers the chance at a huge payday for a tiny online buy-in.

These qualifiers will run daily at 2:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 8:30 p.m., and 10:30 p.m. One in ten players will win a $45 online satellite entry ticket.

Those who don’t win a ticket can also take a shot in regular $365 turbo qualifiers. There’s always another option to win your way into the BSPO.

Why the Borgata Spring Poker Open is worth attention

The Borgata Spring Poker Open offers players plenty of bang for the poker-playing buck. Beyond the kickoff event and championship, the Spring Poker Open offers some great guarantees with numerous highlights on the schedule.

Low rollers will find plenty of events in the $300 – $500 range. These events will carry guarantees from $20,000 to $150,000.

Some other notable tournaments at the BSPO will include:

  • $450 Almighty Stack, featuring a $500,000 guarantee and six starting flights. (Apr. 9 – 12)
  • One-day Saturday Series events will have a $400 buy-in and guarantees of $100,000 (Apr. 6 & 12)
  • $500 Black Chip Deepstack Bounty with a $100,000 guarantee (Apr. 5)
  • $1,060 Knockout Bounty (Apr. 13)
  • $660 Black Chip Bounty Super Survivor (Apr. 18)
  • $150 Ladies Event (Apr. 13)

All signs point to a huge BSPO

This year’s edition of the BSPO figures to be a huge deal. I spoke with BorgataPoker.com sponsored pro and ambassador Katie Stone Cappuccio, and she said that 2019 has already begun with a bang.

“We had a record-breaking 47 players win their seats via online satellites on BorgataPoker.com during January’s Winter Poker Open opening event,” Cappucio said.

One of those online qualifiers was Maryland’s Vladimir Alexandrov. He not only earned his way into the $600 Deepstack Kickoff, but finished third for $216,000. No doubt many will be hoping to follow in his footsteps in April.

Borgata rules over the poker scene in New England

Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa has become the mecca for poker in the northeast. The poker features a huge scene, two annual World Poker Tour stops, numerous major tournament series throughout the year, and a popular online poker offering at BorgataPoker.com.

While there may be fewer players in the New Jersey online poker pool than before Black Friday, Cappuccio said there is still some nice action within the shared player pool of New Jersey, Nevada, and Delaware.

Naturally, the property also offers a great live experience. Those coming into the state for the live events also have the opportunity to play online.

Many players can use their phones or tablets to play while at the tables at live events. Players can also make account deposits and withdrawals at the main casino cage.

In other words, there’s no reason not to check out Borgata this spring. Cappuccio agrees.

“Players like to come to Borgata because of the variety of games and stakes, and the best structured tournaments,” Cappuccio said. “All games notice upticks and the action is great.

“When these series come around, there’s nothing in this area that compares to it and, as a poker player, there’s nowhere else you want be.”
