Online events not yet revealed, Super Bowl tickets up for grabs online
With a shared liquidity market in between Nevada and New Jersey, online poker should remain a major part of the 2020 events. The ultimate court decision on the Wire Act may decide that future beyond 2020.
On Thursday, the Department of Justice extended its deadline to June 30 for operators to come into compliance. The DOJ has argued that the Wire Act extends to other forms of online gaming beyond simply sportsbook.
The New Hampshire lottery filed suit and won the first round. The event is back in an appeals court now and the fight is expected to extend into the summer.
While that date comes about halfway through the WSOP, Online Poker Report notes:
“Also included is a stipulation that the grace period could end 60 days after final judgment in New Hampshire.”
The series offered its most online tournaments to date in 2019, with nine exclusive online bracelet events. Even if the court rules in favor of the DOJ, that extension may at least allow online players in New Jersey to participate.
In the meantime, players in Nevada and New Jersey can take advantage of a unique opportunity at WSOP.com. The site is currently running its Sit ‘N’ Go to the Super Bowl promotion through Jan. 19.
Players can win a trip for two to Miami to see Super Bowl LIV. To earn entries into a drawing for the tickets, players simply have to do the following:
- Make a first time deposit on WSOP.com
- Win a Sit ‘N’ Go tournament of $1 or greater buy-in
- Play in a $100,000 guaranteed Sunday tournament
