PACKING A PUNCH: PokerStars Offers Players Chance to Get in the Ring with PennsylMania

Poker players in Pennsylvania have another big event to look forward to this Sunday. On Wednesday, PokerStars announced the launch of a new tournament dubbed “PennsylMania.”

The $250 buy-in tournament boasts a huge $250,000 guarantee. The event becomes the biggest event in the Keystone State to date.

Players won’t find beefy grapplers squaring off in a ring like at WrestleMania. But in PennsylMania, they can unleash their inner Hulk Hogan or John Cena for a shot at a poker title.

Another major PokerStars event in PA

PennsylMania is set for May 17 and starts at 5 p.m. ET. The two-day event offers yet another chance for a nice online payday in PA.

It becomes the latest in a string of tournament series and events since PokerStars PA launched in November 2019

Players can also get in on the action for less with a depositor freeroll also running on May 17. The freeroll will award 50 PennsylMania seats.

PokerStars gets boost from pandemic players

How manic will the new tournament get? It’s a good bet there will be another nice turnout for PokerStars PA. The platform set a record in March with $3.1 million in revenue.

That trend could continue when April revenue numbers are announced. Players continue to clamor to online poker. PokerStars PA was seeing traffic of as high as 1,800 players in a 24-hour peak by mid-May.

Stars has run some of its well-known signature events since launch. That has included the PACOOP, the first online series in the state, and the popular Bounty Builder Series.

April’s PASCOOP (PA Spring Championship of Online Poker) featured 100 tournaments with a guaranteed prize pool of $2 million.

The events attracted 79,892 total entries, including 56,737 individual players and 23,155 re-entries. That produced more than $3.2 million awarded to players.

Staying at home, playing cards online

More states may be opening up across the country, but that doesn’t mean the mini-online poker boom won’t continue.

Live casinos have recently begun announcing reopening plans as well. But with players constantly in close quarters, live poker will be difficult to restore any time soon.

Major tours like the World Poker Tour and World Series of Poker remain in a standstill. Both have pushed further into online poker in recent months however.

The WSOP also announced in April that the annual summer series in Las Vegas has now been postponed to the fall. Online events are expected to run this summer however.

Online poker has also benefited from the lack of sports being played. Leagues are showing some early signs of returning, but many are still weeks away.

Many of those sports bettors, as well as other casino gamblers, have turned to online poker for action. That has also been the trend internationally.

With so many still looking to wager, the online poker wave should continue in the coming weeks.

Two more PokerStars promotions for PA, NJ players

Along with PennsylMania, PokerStars recently launched the Stars Rewards Showdown. The promotion runs from May 11-31. Those playing real money games win Stars Rewards Chests containing two cards.

Those cards will be used in a showdown where the best hand can win varying prize amounts. Players lucky enough to hit a royal flush will collect a prize of up to $2,500.

To get in the game, players opt in to the promotion in the Challenges Window. Players can also opt in for the PokerStars Cardex promotion, which runs through May 24. Players will be given a red or black card on a spinning device known as the Cardex.

Those then playing any No Limit Hold’em cash game have a shot at a mystery cash prize of up to $5,000. A player dealt his or her selected card in a game and then win the hand progress up a step.

The color of the card on the Cardex must match the suit of the winning card. Players need to complete all five reels on the Cardex to receive a cash prize.
