Man Arrested For Attempted Arson at Famous Las Vegas Casino

Binion’s Gambling Hall Hotel in Las Vegas

Jonathan Luna, 30, was recently arrested for what could have turned into an arson attack on Binion’s Gambling Hall Hotel in Las Vegas.

A video showed Luna filling a milk jug with gasoline before heading to the 24-hour casino and pouring it over the floor. He later admitted his plan was to set the venue on fire.

However, according to witnesses, he then left the premises accompanied by a woman. She is believed to be the victim in a domestic violence charge against Luna. He had only been arrested six days before this latest incident.

Despite leaving Binion’s, Luna wasn’t finished yet. He allegedly exited onto Fremont Street and started to threaten bystanders with both a knife and screwdriver. Soon after, LVPD intervened and the man was detained.

The famous casino is frequently referenced in pop culture. It featured in a scene in the James Bond movie Diamonds Are Forever, was used as the backdrop for a music video by rapper Snoop Dogg, and briefly appeared in the comedy Vegas Vacation, starring Chevy Chase.

Despite the restrictions on online poker in Nevada, Binion’s Gambling Hall Hotel famously hosted the WSOP Main Event up until 2005, when the number of participants grew too large. The 2025 World Series of Poker will be held at the new Horseshoe, owned by Caesars Entertainment, just a 10-minute drive south towards Paradise.

Latest on Luna

Luna was arrested on January 31 and held at the Clark County Detention Center, where his bail was set at $50,000. Aside from the domestic abuse charge, he has also spent six months in prison for burglary.

His preliminary hearing is set to take place on February 19.
