Partypoker/BetMGM Begins Seeing Gains in Michigan, Sunday Events Perform Well
A few weeks into operations in Michigan, BetMGM continues to gain new players and see rising numbers. That includes growing tournament and cash game numbers.
BetMGM is part of partypoker US Network, which is also available in New Jersey with the BorgataPoker.com skins. The move into the Wolverine State has given Michigan a second online poker option and players are beginning to take notice.
Growing tournament traffic at BetMGM Michigan
The site’s launch on March 22 may have caught some players by surprise. Party has yet to launch in Pennsylvania, but now has two states in the network.
The first live Sunday on March 28, saw BetMGM Michigan draw more than 12,000 players on the platform, according to partypoker US officials.
That’s about equal to the volume on BorgataPoker.com in New Jersey. The site also attracted more unique cash game players than all the NJ skins combined. Also on March 28, the site’s weekly $40,000 Sunday guarantee brought in 260 entries – increasing the prize pool to $52,000. A week later on April 4, the same tournament had 375 entries for a $75,000 prize pool.
Company officials also note that many daily $10,000 guarantee tournaments continue to meet that number.
Sunday major results at BetMGM Michigan
Some of those tournament numbers continue to grow even more. On April 11, the $40,000 guarantee produced 464 entries.
That more than doubled the prize pool to $92,800 with “Pollan” coming out on top for $16,589. The vast majority of Sunday events met guarantees this week.
The $109 BetMGM Grand Online Main Event also kicked off yesterday with a $100,000 guarantee. The final table is streaming tonight and saw 1,130 entries – pushing the prize pool to $113,000.
A few other nice examples include:
- $55 Sunday Progressive Knockout – This event topped the $1,000 guarantee with $1,600 paid out.
- $35 Nightly Turbo – Another nice turnout with this tournament topping the $1,500 guarantee by paying out $3,296.
- $10 NLHE Deepstack – Low rollers continue to find some nice prize pools as well. This tournament featured a $500 guarantee and produced a $927 prize pool.
Despite those numbers, players will still find a few overlays. On Sunday, the daily $109 tournament with a $10,000 guarantee only brought 78 runners for a $2,200 overlay.
Tournament series on the way
With tournament numbers growing, partypoker US/BetMGM has also launched a tournament series for Michigan.
The platform’s Online Series have become popular in New Jersey and the first for Michigan runs next week. The festival is planned for April 18-25 with $305,000 guaranteed.
Two Sunday Special events highlight the series. The $215 version kicks off the events on April 18 with a $75,000 guarantee.
Another Sunday Special closes the events with a $575 version on April 25 and also with a $75,000 guarantee. Here’s a look at the complete schedule

Cash game numbers slowly improving
The first week of play at BetMGM Michigan saw a seven-day average of 55 cash game players. That included a 24-hour peak of 121 players, according to PokerScout statistics.
As of Monday, that had climbed to a seven-day average of 70 and 24-hour peak of 166 players. On social media, there seem to be more players posting about the site.
Several Michigan poker Facebook groups have seen several players post screenshots of their experiences on the site. The word seems to be getting out and many players appreciate a second option.
However, BetMGM has a way to go to edge closer to PokerStars but is at least trending upward. By comparison, as of Monday Stars had a seven-day average of 425 cash game players with a 24-hour peak of about 900.
The good news for players is that the overall online poker pie in the state seems to be growing.

Partypoker US/BetMGM, LearnWPT Team Up to Offer Players Exclusive Strategy Content With “For the Player” Promotion
Poker is a constantly evolving game with players always looking for an edge – new information and new techniques. Those at partypoker US Network now have the opportunity for some advanced training.
Partypoker has now joined forces with LearnWPT to bring players some free strategy content as part of the “For The Player” campaign. LearnWPT is the official training site of the World Poker Tour and now offers players a chance to work on their skills.
Playing online poker, improving skills
Partypoker US Network includes the BetMGM and BorgataPoker.com skins and is available in New Jersey and Michigan (BetMGM). As part of the For the Player promotion, players have access to exclusive tips, training videos and events, and other key features.
Some of the poker pros offering strategy advice at the site include:
- Nick Binger – $2.3 million in live tournament winnings, two-time WSOP bracelet winner
- Andrew Lichtenberger – $10.5 million in live tournament winnings, WPT champion, WSOP bracelet winner,
- Tony Dunst – WPT champion, two-time WSOP bracelet winner, and WPT commentator
LearnWPT touches on all areas of poker including mental game preparation and theory by author and coach Jared Tendler.
“Players on partypoker US in New Jersey and Michigan will have access to lots of free training content,” Binger says, “from weekly poker decision hands to strategy episodes to advanced playable hands on the WPT GTO Trainer.”
LearnWPT also offers a free weekly email newsletter as well, which is available to all US online poker players. This gives players a new strategy video or article each week to help improve their game for free. To opt into the newsletter, players just need to sign up with their email on the site.
Learning the ins and outs of GTO poker
LearnWPT has many options to help beginners all the way up to advanced players. A big part of that is the GTO Trainer. GTO is short for Game Theory Optimal and describes a method of poker makes a player unexploitable. The goal with GTO poker is to help a player win over the long term.
There is something for every level of player, Binger notes, and partypoker players now get a nice introduction to the site.
“LearnWPT has hundreds of strategy episodes organized by skill level,” Binger says. “If you are comfortable with the rules of No Limit Hold’em but need an overall basic strategy, you should dive into Small Stakes play.
“More regular and serious students would be at home in Mid Stakes. Lastly, our High Stakes track covers the concepts used by the best players in the world with a heavy focus on solver-based analysis and hands from the WPT GTO Trainer.”
Catch partypoker final tables on Twitch
Along with For the Player, LearnWPT also has recently launched a Twitch channel. The site recently sponsored the partypoker Online Series Main Event in March and continues to stream more final tables.
Streaming partypoker final tables allows LearnWPT to extend its reach to the site’s players. Viewers can interact with coaches from the site and receive live commentary on the action as well as strategy advice.
Fans of the Twitch channel can even get advice while the game is playing out online.
The LearnWPT team continues to produce content to give players an edge in today’s modern game. What’s Binger’s best advice to players hoping to add to their skills?
“Never stop learning and improving,” he says. “You should be spending time every day focused on improving your play. The moment you stop to rest on your laurels in this game is the moment you start falling behind.”

PokerStars offers PASCOOP extras
Once again PokerStars is bringing some promotional power to the series. Players can win entries to the series via some extra events.
The Depositor Freeroll offers $15,000 worth of Main Event tickets on May 2. To win a freeroll ticket, players must deposit $30 or more before May 2.
Second Chance Freerolls also offer some extra chances. Any player knocked out of a PASCOOP tournament before reaching the money receives an entry to the next day’s freeroll.
In these events, PokerStars is giving away up to $1,000 in tournament tickets. The freerolls take place every day starting on April 18 with a total of $15,000 awarded.
New Jersey, Michigan SCOOP also in the works
In addition to PASCOOP, the first Michigan SCOOP (MISCOOP) will run alongside the New Jersey SCOOP (NJSCOOP) from May 8-24. Full details on MISCOOP and NJSCOOP to be announced in the coming weeks.
MISCOOP follows on from the inaugural Michigan Championship of Online Poker (MICOOP) series, which ran Feb. 20 to March 8. The series saw players win more than $2.2 million, easily exceeding the series guarantee of $1 million.
On the international platform, SCOOP is taking place from April 4-28 with $100 million guaranteed.

PokerStars PA Announces Packed PASCOOP 2021 Schedule With 120 Tournaments, Over $2M Guaranteed
With both the latest Pennsyl-MANIA and Bounty Builder Series still prominent in the rearview mirror, PokerStars PA today announced the new Pennsylvania Spring Championship of Online Poker (PASCOOP) schedule.
The second go-round of PASCOOP expands on the first, featuring 120 distinct tournaments with the total guarantees exceeding $2 million.
The series will run from April 17-May 3, culminating with a two-day, $300 buy-in Main Event with a $200,000 guarantee.
Three-tiered PASCOOP schedule accommodates all buy-in levels
Last year’s PASCOOP was the first in the site’s history.
Staged last April, the series featured 50 events each with a “high” and “low” tier to total 100 tournaments. Guarantees then also added up to $2 million, although by the end more than $3.2 million was awarded across the series.
This time PASCOOP features a three-tiered schedule, much like the annual SCOOP series currently ongoing on the global PokerStars site. There are 40 events, each with a “high,” “medium,” and “low” buy-ins, thus totaling 120 tournaments altogether.
Buy-ins range from as little as $5 all of the way up to a couple of “high”-tiered High Roller events costing $1,000 and $2,000 to play.
Highlights among the preliminary events include:
- Event #4-H — $100 NLHE Sunday Special SE, $75K gtd. (Apr. 18)
- Event #11-H — $2,000 NLHE 8-Max, High Roller, $100K gtd. (Apr. 21)
- Event #11-M — $500 NLHE 8-Max, High Roller, $50K gtd. (Apr. 21)
- Event #20-H — $200 NLHE Sunday Special SE, $100K gtd. (Apr. 25)
- Event #27-H — $1,000 NLHE 6-Max, High Roller, $75K gtd. (Apr. 28)
- Event #33-H — $500 NLHE 8-Max, Turbo, Progressive KO, High Roller, $50K gtd. (May 1)
The three Main Events get started Sunday, May 2:
- Event #36-H — $300 NLHE PASCOOP Main Event, $200K gtd.
- Event #36-M — $75 NLHE PASCOOP Main Event – Mid, $40K gtd.
- Event #36-L — $30 NLHE PASCOOP Main Event – Mini, $20K gtd.
There are a number of different no-limit hold’em variations scattered throughout the schedule, including short-handed and heads-up events, turbo events, several featuring the popular progressive knockout bounty format, and a “Win the Button” event.
Additionally, there are a number of non-NLHE events on the schedule, including multiple pot-limit Omaha tournaments, plus 8-game and H.O.R.S.E. events.
Satellites, freerolls provide alternate ways to play PASCOOP events
As PokerStars PA has done with earlier series, there will be multiple PASCOOP satellites all series. There are also freerolls offering an even less expensive way to play events.
A PASCOOP Depositor Freeroll scheduled for Sun., May 2 at 2 p.m. ET will award $15,000 worth of Main Event tickets.
Players who deposit $30 or more using the code “PASCOOP” between now and 1:59 p.m. ET on May 2 receive tickets into the freeroll.
There will also be PASCOOP Second Chance Freerolls throughout the series.
Any player who gets knocked out of an event without making the money will receive an entry into the following day’s Second Chance Freeroll. Those freerolls will each award up to $1,000 in tournament tickets, with $15,000 worth of PASCOOP entries ultimately up for grabs.
PASCOOP hopes to continue momentum of Pennsyl-MANIA, Bounty Builder
As noted, PASCOOP arrives following the PokerStars PA Bounty Builder Series as well as another installment of Pennsyl-MANIA.
The Bounty Builder Series that ran from late Feb. to early March had guarantees adding up to $1.67 million. Ultimately more than $2 million was awarded across the series’ 75 tournaments.
The fourth running of Pennsyl-MANIA on April 4-5 was successful as well. The $300 buy-in event attracted 1,476 total entries (919 uniques, 557 re-entries). That was enough to create a prize pool of just over $413,000, thereby besting the event’s $400,000 guarantee.
Player “throwitinthebag” ultimately took the top prize of a little more than $63,000.
Of the three big Easter Sunday events on PokerStars’ US sites, only Pennsyl-MANIA on PokerStars PA exceeded its guarantee.
The Michigan Classic on PokerStars MI was also a $300 buy-in, two-day event. It attracted 1,551 total entries, though still had an overlay of about $65,000 thanks to the big $500,000 guarantee.
The New Jersey Classic on PokerStars NJ was a $500 buy-in tournament with a $100,000 guarantee. With 178 total entries, that one had an overlay as well of just over $16,000.
