Global Poker is raising the stakes on the Sunday Scrimmage. The poker website’s marquee tournament will feature a SC$100,000 guarantee on Sept. 2.

The buy-in for the event will remain at SC$218. If that amount of $weeps Cash is too steep, Global Poker will be running numerous satellites for the event beginning August 13. Players can win a ticket to the big dance for as little as $SC$3.30.

In fact, there is even a way to punch your ticket without spending a dime. On Aug. 18, Global Poker is hosting a special freeroll and giving away SC$5,000 in tournament entries.

The last few Sunday Scrimmages have not reached the old guarantee of $SC50,000. Potentially, this tournament could yield a SC$50,000 or greater overlay.

How does Global Poker work?

If the currency markers seem confusing, it is because Global Poker’s business model is unique.

Global Poker operates two currencies in tandem with one another: Gold Coins and $weeps Cash. The two currencies rarely interact with each other.

Players deposit funds into the site in order to buy Gold Coins. Gold Coins have no monetary value, but each purchase receives an equivalent supply of $weeps Cash for free.

Players can actually withdraw $weeps Cash for real dollars. Because the player cannot buy $weeps Cash directly, Global Poker becomes a sweepstakes entity rather than a gambling one.

Global Poker versus other rooms in the U.S.

With online poker legal and regulated in only three states (New Jersey, Delaware, and Nevada), American players are short on options for playing real-money games. They can either try the Global Poker sweepstakes system or take their chances with offshore sites that are murky in terms of legality.

One of these sites, the dubiously-named Americas Cardroom, has dealt with significant technical issues over the course of the past week. Its tournament series, with no less than $10 million in guarantees, suffered through three major DDoS attacks on consecutive days.

New Jersey is also reportedly targeting offshore poker sites, namely Bovada, to drive their operations out of the state. This type of aggression from states with regulated online gambling could ultimately lead to another crackdown on illegal gambling at the federal level.

The final domestic bracelet of the 2018 World Series of Poker calendar was awarded in Cherokee, NC at the WSOP Global Casino Championship. A total of 122 players from the 2017-18 WSOP Circuit season qualified for the event alongside five players who entered for a $10,000 buy-in.

Warren Sheaves became the 127th player in the field and wound up the last one to leave the final table stage. Sheaves defeated a top-notch final table by any tour’s standard to win his first career bracelet and the $282,113 first-place prize.

Bracelet winners fall early

The final six players accumulated plenty of WSOP jewelry between them during their respective careers. Four bracelets sat on the respective wrists of Loni Harwood, Keven Stammen, and Arkadiy Tsinis. Harwood started the final table in search of her third bracelet and second WSOP Global title.

All three came up short of their goals with Tsinis the first to fall.

Tsinis limped the small blind and Stammen charged him 60,000 from the big blind. A three-bet emerged from Tsinis worth 160,000 which was met by a four-bet all-in from Stammen for 550,000 effective.

Tsinis called with ace-queen of clubs and looked at pocket nines from Stammen in a massive flip early at the final table. The queen-high flop favored Tsinis but a straight on the turn clinched the pot for Stammen to increase his title hopes.

Jeremy Meacham earned his seat through a win in the 2017 Foxwoods Circuit Main Event and entered the final table as chip leader. Harwood ran head-first into the Meacham train and her run was cut short in fifth-place.

Meacham opened with ace-nine of clubs under the gun and Harwood joined him with king-ten offsuit in the cutoff. Stammen found a reasonable hand in the big blind and the king-high flop with two clubs led to a bet of 90,000 from Meacham. Only Harwood stuck with him to the ten of spades turn and Meacham wagered once more.

168,000 from Meacham was matched by Harwood. The deuce of clubs completed the board to give Meacham a flush. He bet all-in for 550,000 effective and Harwood took her time to call for her tournament life. Harwood’s two pair was second-best and Meacham became the chip leader again.

Heads up arrives

Swiss qualifier Armin Stocker made the most of his overseas trip with a few final table pay jumps but a quest at a win came to an end in fourth place. Stocker lost with pocket tens against the two jacks of Sheaves for his last 25 big blinds to move the tournament to three-handed.

Stammen’s journey for another title to match his bracelet and WPT Championship win ended on the tournament podium. Sheaves raised to 70,000 on the button and called an all-in of 505,000 from Stammen, who shoved from the small blind.

Sheaves’ ace-jack raced against Stammen’s pocket threes to a four-flush on the river to give Sheaves the best hand and the elimination.

Sheaves strikes gold

Meacham and Sheaves started their heads up match with close to 100 big blinds each and Sheaves took eventual control to earn the bracelet.

Sheaves picked off a massive bluff from Meacham to gain the upper hand. Meacham bet all three streets on an ace-eight-four-seven-deuce board with two hearts on the flop. Sheaves called off for his tournament life on the river with five-four and Meacham’s jack-nine was no good.

Meacham lost his last 11 big blinds with queen-seven against the ace-three of Sheaves to earn Sheaves the bracelet and cash.

Sheaves earned the largest score of his career, as did Meacham, along with the WSOP gold bracelet.

The final table airs on ESPN at a yet to be determined date.
