Station Casinos is offering qualified Boarding Pass players club members a free bet on the Vegas Golden Knights to win the Stanley Cup. The free bet promotion is only available for one day. Guests must visit a participating Station Casinos property on Monday, April 23 from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. to obtain their free bet. Participating Station Casinos properties include the following casinos:

  • Palace Station
  • Boulder Station Texas Station
  • Sunset Station
  • Santa Fe Station
  • Green Valley Ranch
  • Red Rock Casino

Note that the newest Station Casinos property, Palms, is not participating in this promotion.

How to obtain your free Golden Knights wager

Boarding Pass members should swipe their players club card at any kiosk inside the casino to receive their free bet. Once each guest receives their betting voucher they have to bring it to the sportsbook counter to place the actual bet.

If a Boarding Pass member doesn’t receive a free bet they can earn 100 Boarding Pass points from playing slot machines, video poker, and table games at one of the participating casinos on April 23.

The individual ticket amount will be selected randomly between $5 to $250 for each bet and will pay 4-1 for the Vegas Golden Knights to win the Stanley Cup playoffs. Not only is this a free bet but it’s a bet with better odds than a cash bet. As the writing of this article, the Golden Knights are currently +180 and favorite to win the Stanley Cup at Station Casinos.

Before the NHL season started odds on the Vegas Golden Knights to win the Stanley Cup were approximately 200-1. Odds have changed a lot over the season and continue to go lower as the Golden Knights win playoff games. Sports bettors can currently find odds on the Vegas Golden Knights to win the NHL Championship as high as 5-1 at South Point and Rampart casinos in Las Vegas.

This could be a big payout by Station Casinos. If the Vegas Golden Knights win the NHL championship, the company will pay up to $1,000,000. Connecticut AG Warns Against Going Rogue On East Windsor Casino

Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen just threw the proverbial bucket of cold water on Mohegan Sun’s and Foxwoods’ East Windsor tribal casino project. He cautioned the state to not go ahead with the project until it hears from the Department of the Interior (DOI).

The state legislature approved the casino project last year. That is, pending approval by the DOI

The problem is the DOI has yet to rule on the matter. To this point, the DOI has balked at making a decision of any kind on the tribal casino project.

Unsurprisingly, with an MGM casino set to open in a few months in Springfield, Massachusetts, the tribes and the Connecticut legislature are growing increasingly frustrated with waiting. Now they are exploring any and all options to speed up the process. That includes lawsuits. It also entailed asking the Connecticut AG to weigh in on a plan to bypass the DOI.

On April 17, the Connecticut AG submitted a letter to the Connecticut Speaker of the House Joe Aresimowicz. In the letter, he derided the idea.

Not the opinion the state was looking for

Jepsen’s opinion warns the legislature against green-lighting the casino through legislative action. If lawmakers did that, they would circumvent the need for the DOI to approve the changes to the current gaming compacts between the state and the tribes.

In his formal opinion Jepsen concluded:

  1. Public Act 17-89’s condition that the amendments to the existing gaming agreements be approved by the U.S. Department of the Interior (Interior) has not been satisfied;
  2. because that condition has not been satisfied, Public Act 17-89’s authorization to conduct casino gaming in East Windsor is not yet effective;
  3. eliminating the federal approval condition would raise risks for the current gaming arrangements with the Tribes about which we have previously opined and continue to have serious concerns;

According to Jepsen, the legislature would be playing a risky game if it forgoes the provision requiring DOI approval:

“Although we have confidence in the position we have taken that the amendments should be treated as deemed approved, it remains possible that the court could rule adversely. To take action on the assumption that the State and Tribes will succeed in the ongoing litigation would be highly imprudent.”

And with that, the chances for legislative action this year are close to zero. The fate of the East Windsor casino project is now at the mercy of the DOI.

Delay will likely further agitate the situation

With the East Windsor casino stuck in the mud, MGM Resorts has swooped into Connecticut. It brings its own ideas for generating gaming revenue.

The gaming-industry heavyweight is pushing the state to scrap the East Windsor idea. MGM suggest to open up a casino bidding process instead. An open process could lead to a commercial casino coming to Connecticut.

In his opinion, Jepsen seemed to sign off on the idea of studying the situation. He elaborated:

“Legislation similar to Special Act 15-7 that would provide for a request for proposal process for sports betting or casino gaming, but requiring subsequent legislation to actually authorize such activity, would not affect the existing gaming arrangements with the Tribes.”

The tribes argue the mere act of studying commercial casinos in Connecticut will put the state on a path that leads to the nullification of the existing tribal gaming compacts. If that happens, it would end the lucrative revenue-sharing agreement tribes have with the state of Connecticut.

As such, simply considering the option of opening the state up to a casino bidding process could be very problematic.

Both sides have bickered back and forth and attempted to discredit the others fiscal findings. With the AG’s opinion likely shelving the tribal casino project for the time being, this fight is likely to increase in intensity.

New Lottery Payment Options Helping To Move Product Into 21st Century

Drew Svitko seems like he has a heart for the state’s older citizens who benefit from lottery proceeds.

The Pennsylvania Lottery executive director announced via a press release this past week that the lottery has added debit card and mobile payment options to the state’s touch-screen, self-serve vending machines.

“Just like any business, the Pennsylvania Lottery wants to make it easy for customers to make purchases in a way they find convenient,” Svitko said. “The older Pennsylvanians who benefit from Lottery sales are counting on us to modernize and stay competitive in an evolving retail environment.”

Google Pay, Apply pay among new payments options

The new payment options include PIN-based debit card transactions, Google Pay, and Apple Pay, all of which will make it easier for customers to pay for their lottery games.

According to the press release, the new payment methods are active at more than 400 lottery terminals and 2,100 sales counters across the state.

Google Pay and Apple Pay allow users to link to debit cards, bank accounts, and credit cards. Currently, businesses who sell lottery games are allowed to accept credit card payments if they’d like.

The press release did not indicate if businesses that don’t accept credit would accept mobile payments linked to credit cards.

In addition to mobile and debit payments, lottery enthusiasts can also use NFC “tap and pay” technology too.

Svitko referenced unnamed research that said many people carry less than $20 in their wallet.

Even though players have more options to pay — including credit — Svitko urged people to play responsibly and within their means.

Where the money goes when gambled

According to the PA Lottery, every dollar that’s spent on lottery games is split four ways:

  • Winning tickets
  • State programs
  • Retailer and vendor commissions
  • Operating costs

Winning tickets account for $0.60 of every dollar, while state programs receive $0.26.

Those state programs include:

  • Rebates for property tax and rent
  • Reduced-rate and free transportation services
  • PACE and PACENET reduced-cost prescription programs
  • Care programs
  • More than 50 local-area Agencies on Aging

The PA Lottery says that, since the lottery launched in 1972, they’ve donated more than$27 billion to these programs.

Payment expansion is latest move toward modernization

As the PA Lottery moves closer to the implementation of online lottery games that can be purchased and played through terminals in businesses across the state, the new announcement about multiple payment methods is another indication that the lottery is serious about making their products accessible and modern.

What is not known is how people will be able to pay for those iLottery terminals. The organization has yet to release details about the exact type of payments that can be used.

Instant win, Keno, and virtual sports are at least three types of lottery games that may be available in the future for online purchase.

Early timelines indicated that virtual sports would launch in June while the other games would be available in May. However, the PA Lottery has indicated that exactly how those game would be available is not set in stone.

Can the World Poker Tour Survive Phil Hellmuth?

Poker’s longest standing TV program will see the premiere of its historic 16th season at the end of the month. The World Poker Tour will begin airing on FOX Sports Regional Networks throughout the US on Sunday, April 29.

But for the first time, it will be doing so with some new faces out front and major changes afoot. Ones that could threaten the popularity of one of the game’s most enduring brands.

Long-time lead host Mike Sexton gave up his position with the WPT after 15 seasons last year. Sexton had been with the WPT since its pre-poker boom inception in 2002. He was well established as the voice of poker in the US. However, Sexton left to take on a role as chairman with the suddenly resurgent partypoker online poker room.

Tony Dunst takes over

Starting with the season-opening WPT Choctaw event from Choctaw Casino & Resort in Durant, Oklahoma, Tony Dunst will replace Sexton, joining long-time Sexton co-host Vince Van Patten in the commentary booth on a full-time basis.

Of course, Dunst is a favorite to have very little trouble filling Sexton’s shoes, having had an ongoing role with WPT hosting the show’s Raw Deal segment the past few years. He’s also stepped in for Sexton whenever he made deep runs in WPT events, which seemed to be quite often the past few years.

He comes in with the right mix of style and experience and fans of the show’s familiarity with Dunst should help make the transition a smooth one.

However, Dunst’s replacement on the Raw Deal segment brings about some other questions.

Instead of replacing Dunst with a young, brash, and opinionated type of the same ilk, the WPT hired a veteran player who remains one of the game’s most polarizing figures. One the poker community was none too happy to see take over the role.

Phil Hellmuth enters the fray

People either love or hate Phil Hellmuth. The 14-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner, who has exactly zero WPT titles, has been caught on camera berating amateur players, bemoaning his bad luck and allowing his massive ego to run wild countless times in the almost three decades since he first won the 1989 WSOP Main Event. He truly is the poker brat.

WPT CEO Adam Pliska is saying publicly he’s thrilled to introduce Hellmuth as the WPT’s new Raw Deal host. Privately, he has to be hoping the public hasn’t yet tired of Hellmuth’s antics and caustic behavior. Something many in the poker community suggested they had when he was first hired last year.

In fact, several vocal opponents took to social media criticizing the WPT for going old school with the Hellmuth hiring. They all claimed they would have rather seen the WPT hire someone in Dunst’s next-generation mold instead.

The Raw Deal is designed to appeal to a younger generation of poker player and fan through the use of honest, aggressive, and constructive criticism on hand analysis. Dunst’s natural style and flair really helped make the segment his own.

Hellmuth has a reputation for being overly critical of other players and rarely offering up anything constructive. As a result, there’s a chance using him to replace Dunst could backfire. In fact, it could turn off the very same fans and players the segment was initially designed to attract.

World Poker Tour quality endures

The venerable Van Patten is back for a 16th season. Lynn Gilmartin will anchor the show for the fifth straight year, doing the job as well as anyone before her.

The latest 27-episode WPT season on FOX Sports Regional Networks will include action from some of the top poker destinations in the world and the awarding of the WPT’s one-billionth prize dollar.

The quality of the programming is likely strong enough to withstand any negative impact Hellmuth taking over as Raw Deal host may have. However, questions still persist as to whether the WPT’s popularity will endure now 16 seasons in. After all, it has lost its iconic host an added a truly polarizing figure to the team.
