The American online poker market continues to grow. After a record March, even more is expected in April with so many players at home and that includes plenty of action this week.

Major events roll on this week at PokerStars, WSOP.com, and Global Poker  – with more on the horizon. Here’s your complete guide for events playing out this week and sites where Americans can play.

Where can you play online poker?

American online players have a few options to get in the action. The markets are still small in comparison to large international poker markets. However, here are four states currently offering legalized online poker.

New Jersey

  • PokerStars NJ – The largest online poker operator in world offers plenty of cash game and tournament action in New Jersey. New players depositing $20 receive $30 in free cash and $10 worth of Spin & Go tickets.
  • partypoker/BorgataPoker partypoker is one of the best-known online brands around the world. New partypoker players get a free $25 via $10 in poker money, $10 in casino chips, and $5 in poker tournament tickets. Those using the BorgataPoker skin can earn $10 in cash with a $10 bonus.
  • WSOP.com/888poker – Players on the World Series of Poker-affiliated site have the option of a shared liquidity pool with Nevada and Delaware. Players can qualify for WSOP events in Las Vegas and circuit tournaments. The site is run on software by 888poker, which also operates in the state. WSOP offers new players a free $10. 888poker offers $20 in free play and up to a $1,500 deposit bonus.

Nevada

  • WSOP.com – WSOP.com offers players plenty of cash game and tournament action with a shared liquidity market with WSOP online poker and 888poker in New Jersey and Delaware.

Pennsylvania

  • PokerStars PA – New players at PokerStars PA can claim a $30 free play bonus and up to $600 match bonus. PokerStars also partners with FOX Bet in the state for sports betting. Players utilizing the FOX Bet’s new player offer will earn a free $20 for signing up that can be used for poker or sports betting.

Delaware

  • Doverdowns.com, Delawarepark.com, Harringtonraceway.com – These offer online poker in Delaware, however, it’s run through 888poker. The platform has a shared liquidity market with New Jersey and Nevada.

Other states

Those in other states have more limited options when it comes to online poker. Sweepstakes poker sites offer players a chance to play for cash and prizes.

Global Poker may be an option for players in other states (and much of Canada as well). The company’s model is based on social gaming. Players can purchase Gold Coins for ring games and tournaments.

As a bonus, players receive Sweeps Coins – which can be used in tournaments and ring games. Unlike Gold Coins, Sweeps Coins can be redeemed for cash prizes. New players can earn a free $20 Sweeps Coin package with a verified account.

PA Gaming Review: Online Revenue Mildly Offsets Losses, Talk Of Reopening Begins

In the fifth week of virus restrictions, new realities have settled in for the Pennsylvania economy and gambling industry.

Sports betting revenue plummeted, with most competition halted and few betting options. And while physical casinos remain shuttered, online casinos and online poker are adding customers and revenue. Same with the lottery, which has seen sales drop at retail outlets while online iLottery traffic is up.

At least one member of the state’s horse racing commission believes it is time to at least discuss resuming meets, though without spectators.

And a PA state senator wants to temporarily redirect sports gambling revenue to property tax relief because so many residents are without incomes. He’s also calling for a reopening of businesses in the Keystone State, which would eventually include gambling halls. For now, the governor has pegged May 8 as the earliest date for lifting any restrictions.

Gamblers flock to online betting

The virus pandemic trimmed PA sports betting handle for March, knocking it down to $131.3 million. That’s a staggering 60% drop from $329 million in February.

The books produced $6.9 million in revenue. The majority of wagers, about 90%, were placed online. That should be 100% when April figures are released next month.

Meanwhile, online casinos set new records for revenue at $24.3 million.

That was while overall gaming revenue was down 51% month-over-month with land-based casinos shuttered since March 17.

Online casino revenue was up 24.5% over its previous high of $19.5 million in February. Slots and table games accounted for 19.7% of the increase, while a record online poker month made up the rest.

March had the most online slots and table games wagers to date with $871.6 million. That represents a 23.9% increase in play over the $703,559,106 wagered in February. Slots rose 51.5% while the amount bet at the tables increased 8.2%.

iLottery buying saves the day in a bad month

The pandemic forced the closure of 30% of the 9,800 Pennsylvania Lottery retailers. Sales from traditional games dipped about 25%.

But Pennsylvania is one of only six states with an online lottery option, and lottery play in PA increased 30% online compared to prior weeks.

Still, overall revenue is down. The PA lottery continues to operate, which is especially fortunate as their revenue benefits older Pennsylvanians.

Time to discuss restarting horse racing, and perhaps more?

Dr. Mark Egloff, a member of the PA Horse Racing Commission, hopes to discuss the resumption of races, but without spectators, at the next commission meeting on April 29.

Egloff, an equine veterinarian and the owner of a large horse farm in Gettysburg, pointed out that the nature of stables and their support systems means “you can’t shut the doors” to a horse barn.

The backsides of some shuttered PA tracks remain filled with people and horses. And live racing has continued at a handful of US tracks and elsewhere around the world, without crowds in attendance.

State Sen. Doug Mastriano has proposed temporarily allocating sports betting revenue for property taxes, given the job losses brought on by the virus.

The politician is also pushing for the reopening of businesses in PA, which would presumably include casinos. For now, casinos remain closed until at least May 8.

Global Poker Home Series Posts Record Numbers, Massive Main Event Set for Sunday

As a sweepstakes poker site, Global Poker isn’t a traditional online poker site. However, its browser-play platform has produced record numbers as part of the new Home Series.

Global is now set for the biggest guarantee in the site’s history on Sunday. The SC540 Sunday Scrimmage Main Event Deepstack features a SC500,000 prize pool on the line.

How does Global Poker work and what’s available?

As a social poker site, Global Poker makes use of Gold Coins for free play. Players purchasing Gold Coins also receive Sweeps Coins, which can be used in separate tournaments and ring games. Unlike Gold Coins, these can also be redeemed for cash.

The platform is available in most US states and Canada. The Main Event now offers one lucky player the opportunity to turn some Sweeps cash into some serious real cash.

Sweeps Coins can be used for ring games, sit and go’s, multi-table tournaments, and major events like the Home Series. Players will find these poker variants on the site:

  • Texas Hold’em
  • Omaha
  • Crazy Pineapple

Players don’t have to play Sweeps Coins, and can simply work on their game using Gold Coins. The Home Series offers events in both currencies.

Home Series exemplifies site’s growth

Since its launch in 2016, Global Poker has grown its player base to more than 1 million registered players. With the Coronavirus pandemic, even larger numbers of players have joined in the tournament action.

Prize pools and guarantees have also been steadily growing. For the Home Series, Global includes these guarantees:

  • SC2 million – total for all Sweeps Coin events.
  • GC70 million – total guaranteed for all Gold Coin events.

Gold Coin events have already awarded GC120 million with a week of the series still remaining.

Sweeps Coin players have already won SC1.22 million. There’s a good chance that the guarantee will be shattered with plenty more opportunities for poker players at home.

Last weekend, the Sunday Teaser and Scrimmage events produced massive numbers. More than 1,100 players jumped in the online action for a share of more than SC200,000.

In the Scrimmage, Vermont player “Ryleo” took the title after more than six hours at the virtual tables. Along with his trophy, Ryleo added a cool SC27,075 to his player account.

Satellites for this Sunday’s Scrimmage can be found online for as little as SC1.50.

Extra incentives to play Global Poker Home Series

As one might expect from a social gaming platform, Global Poker goes the extra mile to promote its events. The site’s added promotions include:

  • free tournament tickets
  • social media competitions
  • rewards for event winner

During the Home Series, the site is giving away numerous free tickets to satellite tournaments every day. Players can find these in promotional emails or on Global Poker’s social media channels.

Beyond the Sweeps Cash and Gold Coins prize pool, winners receive a Champions Pack. These include exclusive Global swag and a personalized Home Series trophy.

Winners of Sweeps Coin and Gold Coin events both receive a trophy. The Home Series action continues all week and players across the country will be looking to earn their own trophy.
