New additions invade PokerStars galaxy

Similar to WCOOP, Stars is bringing plenty to the table for southern European players. The “‘Galactic Series Sweepstakes” is a new promotion this year and offers players  plenty of opportunities.

From Sept. 5-19, a total of €150,000 in Main Event entries will be awarded – €10,000 daily. For a shot at a tournament ticket, players must opt in using their challenge window.

Then need to simply play in at least one Galactic Series tournament for an entry into that day’s giveaway. The higher the buy-in level, the more entries a player receive for that day’s sweepstakes.

PokerStars managing director and commercial officer Severin Rasset said the company makes efforts to add something new and different to each series.

“The Galactic Series is now in its third year and has become a key event in the calendar for many of our players in Southern Europe,” Rasset said.

“In listening to our players and thinking about ways we can offer additional excitement, on top of the series’ biggest ever guarantee we have added more value and more ways to win this year. There are sweepstakes, special Spin & Go’s, and freerolls, ensuring players of all types have the chance to take part.”

The Galactic Series is just one major series running in September. Over the same dates, the PokerStars WCOOP will also be underway.

That series also features its largest ever guarantee ever as well – a nice $80 million. Combined, the Galactic Series and WCOOP will award more than $100 million.

PokerStars Earns Industry Awards for Innovation, Creativity

There was plenty of good news for PokerStars at the recent EGR Marketing and Innovation Awards. The annual event was held virtually on July 30 and recognizes standout creativity and innovation in online gaming.

In the area of innovation, PokerStars received two awards. Company officials said that has been a key focus in recent years.

PokerStars’ focus on innovation recognized

On its poker side, PokerStars received the award in the “Innovation in Poker” category. The company was recognized for its wide selection of new games, fresh products, and virtual reality offerings over the last year.

“Difficult to challenge PokerStars for research and development, and another good year for new product launches,” judges noted about the platform.

“Clearly doing well given the phenomenal growth rates during COVID, demonstrating success of both old and new variants. Love the fact that PokerStars has embraced virtual reality and done so in a big way. This brand is always working on a way forward and new ideas.”

PokerStars is the largest online poker site in the world and produces one of the top software platforms. The site is internationally recognized and offers several platforms beyond its .COM site.

That includes sites for Italian players as well a dedicated site for players in Spain, Portugal, and France.

Stars also offers online poker in the US in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

The site has been particularly innovative in developing new games and promotions. Some of those include

  • Swap Hold’em
  • Deep Water
  • UFC Spin and Go’s
  • PokerStars VR

Throughout PokerStars and particularly for its dedicated Poker Innovation and Operations team, trying out new formats and game types, listening to players’ responses, and going back to the lab is a constant focus,” said Rebecca McAdam Willetts, PokerStars associate director of public relations.

PokerStars has seen massive player pools and activity since the COVID-19 pandemic began. The most recent was the Stadium Series, which smashed the $25 million guarantee by $9 million.

PokerStars also earns award for casino product

EGR also recognized PokerStars proprietary tournament platform Casino Races in the “Innovation in Casino” category.

With PokerStars Casino, the aim was to give customers something they hadn’t seen before. Over the past 12 months PokerStars worked to successfully build and launch the product platform.

“Building new products that are fresh and entertaining for our community is of utmost priority at PokerStars,” McAdam Willetts said. “While the classic games that we all love aren’t going anywhere, we truly enjoy seeing our customers take to new formats and products.

“The focus on continuously developing exceptional experiences in everything from our customer support options to our responsible gaming tools is vital to PokerStars’ mission as we meet, head on, the expanding variety of entertainment options the modern world provides. We’re extremely pleased to have won two awards in this area across our offering.”

PokerStars Goes Global With $80 Million WCOOP; Adds 2021 Online Entry Giveaways

PokerStars has announced its biggest WCOOP series yet.

As if the online poker smorgasbord weren’t big enough, PokerStars announced the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) returns Aug. 30. The series features 75 events and $80 million guaranteed – the largest in the history of the series.

Running through Sept. 23, the series allows players of all buy-in levels a shot to be a world champion. The series runs the gamut of tournament type and promises another massive series for international players.

“WCOOP is a prestigious staple in the poker calendar and this year we are excited to bring players our biggest WCOOP ever, as well as adding extra excitement and value into the mix,” PokerStars managing director and commercial officer Severin Rasset said.

“We want to give players of all levels the opportunity to become a champion, so there will be lots of ways to get in on the action. Plus we’re particularly excited about setting poker fans up for the coming year with our new Slam Packages.”

A look at some of the highlights on the WCOOP schedule

Players ready to get in the action have a lot to look forward to. All events feature Low, Medium, and High buy-in tiers.

Those range from $2.20 to $25,000 and players will also find three series championships. These freezeout main events will be held on Sept. 20 and here’s a look at what to expect:

  • Medium $530 – $2 million guaranteed
  • High $5,200 – $10 million guaranteed

Players can battle it out in Player of the Series leaderboards for these three categories as well. There will also be an overall champion named.

One part of the series is already underway – the $2.20, $22, $215 Phase Tournaments. The  events run until Sept. 21 with guarantees of $250,000 for the $22 tournaments and $2 million for the $215. Here’s a look at the complete schedule:

PokerStars WCOOP offers a grand slam

The WCOOP makes it a gargantuan month for PokerStars. At least $200 million will be awarded to tournament players across the company’s platforms in September.

Stars is hoping to even spread some of those good vibes to future online series. WCOOP introduces the site’s “2021 Slam Packages” and “WCOOP Sweepstakes” promotions.

Champions of any one of 15 special Sunday Slam WCOOP tournaments earn something extra – a Slam Package. This is quite a reward and entitles the winner to 2021 Main Event-High entries into all of the following:

  • WCOOP
  • SCOOP
  • Stadium Series

A Slam Package means three freeroll shots at winning a title next year.

Additionally, $1.5 million in WCOOP tickets will be awarded via WCOOP Sweepstakes from Aug. 30 to Sept. 20. To gain entry to the sweepstakes, players must simply take part in a tournament.

The more tournaments and the higher the buy-in level played, the more entries a player earns. At least three $5,200 Main Event tickets will be awarded daily during the sweepstakes, along with additional ticket prizes

More ways to get in the WCOOP action

There are several other promotions players can expect to get in the action. WCOOP Fast Track will award at least five Main Event High seats every day until Sept. 20.

To earn a Fast Track Main Event seat, players can complete the four-step qualification route. That starts at just $1 or players can buy in at a higher step. Other promotional highlights players can take advantage of include:

  • Spin & Go’s – awarding WCOOP Main Event entries, tickets, and cash prizes and start at just $4 will
  • PokerStars School – awarding WCOOP tickets in regular giveaways.
  • Series qualifiers – Players of all levels can win series entries for as little as $1.

Taking Fridays off, more action for European players

Along with plenty of tournament action, PokerStars is also offering a bit of time away from the tables during WCOOP. Players can take Fridays off with no worries of missing an event.

After receiving player feedback, PokerStars chose to include a regular player break.  This should be welcome news for players who compete in the Player of the Series race.

WCOOP isn’t the only major PokerStars tournament series running in September. Players in Southern Europe can welcome the Galactic Series Aug. 30 to Sept. 28.

That series, for players in Spain, Portugal, France, comes with a €17 million total guarantee. The €250 Main Event features a €1 million guaranteed.

The WCOOP and the Galactic Series will award more than $100 million to PokerStars players. That means plenty of fun and cash opportunities for online poker players.

Partypoker, WPT Expand WOC Main Events; Mobile App Enhanced with Portrait Mode

The WPT recently detailed the Feeder and Funnel Program, allowing partner casinos around the world to offer live satellites for WPT events.

After receiving player feedback, partypoker and the World Poker Tour have made some changes to the World Online Championships. The Mini and Main Event have been extended with more chances for players to qualify.

The $10,300 Main Event features a $10 million guarantee with Day 1A set for Sunday, Sept. 6. Day 1B has been moved to Sept. 13 with Days 2, 3 and 4 on the following days.

Players will now have more opportunities to qualify for Day 1B, even if they bust on Day 1A. Partypoker will add even more satellite events in the intervening week.

The entire WOC series features a $100 million guarantee and events for all bankroll levels. That ranges from $30 to $100,000 with numerous tournaments left on the schedule.

Changes mean more opportunities in WPT World Online Championships

The $1,050 Mini Main Event also sees a bit of a schedule change, which comes with a $5 million guarantee. Day 1A is Sunday, Aug. 30, with 1B now on Sept. 6 and the final two days afterward.

The $109 Micro Main Event, with a guarantee of $1 million, will keep its original schedule for the whole four days. Day 1A is set for Aug. 29 and Sept. 1 as the final day of action.

This allows for all three main events to be live streamed on partypoker’s Twitch channel. This now gives Micro players a chance to shine in front of live viewers.

Plenty still on the line in WPT events

The WOCs have passed the halfway point but there remains a plethora of action. The Main Event is one of five Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup events held during the series.

On top of the prize money, the winner adds a $15,000 package to the next WPT Tournament of Champions (presented by Baccarat Crystal). The champion’s name is also engraved on the Sexton Cup.

Championship winners also join the exclusive Champions Club and win a Hublot watch and set of Baccarat tumblers. The series comes with almost $150,000 in added value for players.

The series features a $100 million guarantee and tries to replicate an authentic live WPT experience.

Tournaments use players’ real names and allow a maximum of two Day 1s for the 10 championship events. Only one re-entry is allowed per day. Here’s a look at the complete schedule.

Partypoker adds to mobile app allowing portrait mode for tournaments, SNGs

Partypoker has made some other news recently. Mobile players will now find a bit more comfort at the virtual tables. The site’s app now lets players compete in multi-table tournaments (MTTs) and Sit & Go tournaments (SNGs) in portrait mode.

This means players can now take part in major tournaments like the WOCs while on the go. The change makes it simpler to play in events like this. A big part of that is the ability to play multiple games at the same time.

“This marks a very important milestone for us, with all games now being available in portrait mode,” said Ross McQuater, partypoker head of poker product. “Tournament play presented a number of interesting challenges, and the team have done a great job in overcoming them.

“The result sees a significant overhaul for tournaments that extends to the game lobbies too, not just the portrait game table. We have an exciting raft of new features that we will continue to add in the coming months, as we also work to improve the portrait experience for our other labels. We are confident our players will enjoy the latest experience.”

Partypoker began making major improvements to its app in 2019, including a much more user-friendly experience. There are now several extra features to make tournament play more enjoyable as well.

As part of the new release, the “diamonds” virtual currency and “rabbit hunt” features are available in portrait mode. Party also revamped portrait lobbies  for tournaments and SNGs. These improvements include:

  • new game listings
  • filters
  • improved tournament detail pages

More details and a clearer design has refined the mobile experience to replicate the quality of a desktop lobby.

Social gaming aspects continue to grow

Diamonds are part of a shift toward introducing some social gaming-type features to the mobile app. These are rewarded based on the number of hands played.

A player can then use those diamonds to spend on animations or the opportunity to rabbit hunt. Rabbit cards give the full picture of hands, allowing a player to see the remaining cards not dealt. The feature adds some extra excitement and fun.

The moves come after the company enhanced the mobile offering earlier this year. Portrait table mode was extended to cash games, with single-handed play spread across heads-up and six-handed games.

Last year, party launched a new SPINS interface with a selection of new social game features. Some of those included bubble chat, emojis, animations, and enhanced dialogues.

Mobile gaming continues to be a major focus for the online poker industry.  The sites hop the efforts expand the player pool and grow the industry.

Operators are adapting to those prefer their gaming more on the go. Partypoker has been a big part of that and continues to enhance its mobile product.

The Unibet Summer Circuit Series kicks off on Aug. 23.

The international online poker market continues to explode and Unibet is getting in on the action this month. The operator offers up its Summer Circuit Series Aug. 21-30 with a total guarantee of €250,000.

The WPT and partypoker are teaming up for the $100 million WPT World Online Championships.

After two weeks of PLO events in the WPT World Online Championships, No Limit Hold’em now takes center stage at partypoker beginning Saturday. With plenty of extras already in line for winners, the site announced some nice extras this week bringing the total to almost $150,000.

The five Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup events include a $15,000 entry into the Tournament of Champions presented by Baccarat Crystal. Partypoker announced Thursday that those entries won’t be removed from the prize pool.

In essence the TOC entries are added value with partypoker chipping in that money.

Click here for a complete preview and schedule of the WPT World Online Championships including an interview with poker star Jason Koon.

BOUNTY TIME: Celebrities, Athletes Join the Fun in WPT Partypoker Shooting Stars Charity Event

Liv Boeree will be one of the bounties in the partypoker Shooting Stars.

Partypoker and the WPT are no strangers to charity efforts. As part of the WPT World Online Championships, the two companies are getting back in the act.

The Shooting Stars for Charity will be held across two days, July 29-30. The tournament features a $500,000 guarantee with a minimum $50,000 of that going to the 1Day Sooner. Several well-known faces from poker and beyond are getting involved.

1Day Sooner advocates on behalf of human trial challenges to speed up the development of a COVID-19 vaccine. The charity has gained the support of 32,000 volunteers in 140 countries.

Major name poker pros jump in the action

The charity event features a $1,100 buy-in with $100 of each buy-in going to the charity donation. There will be some nice opportunities for players to score some bounties during the event.

Those sending a “Shooting Star” to the rail will earn an extra $500. Several recognizable poker pros are already planning to play, according to partypoker. Some of those include:

  • Sam Trickett – Partypoker ambassador from the United Kingdom with $21.8 million in winnings.
  • Ryan Riess – A WPT champion and 2013 World Series of Poker Main Event winner.
  • Darren Elias –  The WPT’s winningest player with four Main Tour titles.
  • Liv Boeree – English poker pro with $4 million in live tournament earnings.
  • Kenny Hallaert – One of Belgium’s winningest poker players with $4.3 million.
  • Mike McDonald – This Canadian won the 2017 partypoker MILLIONS High Roller.

Celebs adding something extra to partypoker Shooting Stars

Beyond the world of poker, there are also plenty of celebrities in the action – all also $500 bounties. That list includes pro athletes, models, and actors.

Luke Mabbott may not have won on  Love Island, but he’ll be hoping for better results on the poker table.

Actress and model Aylar Lie, who has also won six live poker titles, will also be participating. No stranger to poker, she has more than $362,000 in live tournament winnings.

In his day job, Barry Hearn is chairman of World Snooker and promotes other sporting events. He’s also a regular poker player with more than $115,000 in live poker winnings.

Actor Patrick Murray will also be participating. Many might know him as Mickey Pearce from sitcom Only Fools and Horses. He’s also a regular at the poker table.

Additionally, Manchester United football players Wes Brown and Darren Fletcher will move from the pitch to the poker felt.

Both are accustomed to winning trophies, including the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, and more. Now they’ll be seeking a partypoker WPT title.

Following the partypoker Shooting Stars action

Like all of the WPT Online World Championships, the Shooting Stars will be live-streamed on the partypoker Twitch channel. Commentary will be provided in English by James Dempsey and Henry Kilbane.

Russian commentary will also be provided by Dmitry Shakov and Andrey Budykin. Stefan Hachmeister and Christophe Gross will be behind the mic for German viewers.
