BetMGM Poker made the rare move of announcing that it had disqualified a player from their recently concluded March Mania Series.
Event #12, the $250 buy-in Main Event, had 293 entries and originally paid 40 places. However, one player’s disqualification means that everyone else in the money advanced one place in the final payouts. BetMGM did not reveal the exact finishing spot of the said disqualified player.
The disqualified player violated the terms and conditions regarding account eligibility and control. The exact violation was not named, but it was likely one of the common online poker rule violations, such as ghosting or multi-accounting. Those not only go against poker etiquette but are against the basic rules of online poker.
BetMGM released a statement on social media;
“BetMGM Poker Integrity has concluded its review of March Mania Event #12 and determined that a participant violated our Terms & Conditions regarding account eligibility and control. The individual in question has been disqualified, and all payouts have been adjusted by advancing remaining players one rank.”
While disqualifications in online poker do happen with some regularity, the issuing of a public statement is more rare as operators usually prefer to keep rule violations more hushed. This could signal intent from BetMGM to be more transparent to try and show their site is a safe one to play on as they take any rule violations seriously.
The BetMGM March Mania series, one of the many online poker tournament options, ran from March 25 through March 30 with 15 tournaments that were available for players in two states to contribute to the online poker availability in New Jersey and Michigan, as well as Pennsylvania.
The Main Event winner had the screen name “Spennnnnn” who won a first place prize of $13,338.55. We know they were not the player disqualified as they remain as the listed winner of the event.
