Global Poker Goes Live With Huge California Tournament

With more players discovering Global Poker, the online poker site is now offering players even more. The site has partnered with the Card Player Poker Tour (CPPT) offering players a shot at playing in the championship event.

The tournament is set for Oct. 17-21 at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles for some California dreaming. Global is offering players satellite opportunities through Oct. 6 for the chance to win a CPPT seat.

Winners will earn a prize package that includes:

  • $1,100 main event entry
  • $1,100 in travel expenses
  • Global Poker merchandise and swag

More live poker opportunities including a West Coast trip

This isn’t Global Poker’s first foray into offering players a chance to represent the site at a live poker tournament. Tournament of Champions winners in events like the Global Poker Championships have had a live event package of their choice.

This is the first time it has teamed with an individual poker tour in a totally separate satellite series. It’s a unique opportunity for Global players.

So far, nine have already qualified and secured their seats at the table in October. Texas, California and Illinois are currently tied with the most qualifiers with two each.

Along with some poker, winners will enjoy some Southern California and Hollywood fun. That could include theme parks, beaches, arts and cultural events, sports, and more.

The CPPT is the live tournament series of Card Player Media, publishers of the Card Player poker magazine. The tour features major events around the country.

How does Global Poker work?

For those not familiar with Global Poker, the platform utilizes a unique sweepstakes model. This system makes playing its games online legal in the US and Canada. Players are able to cash out for real money in certain games on the site.

Through this model, players use virtual chips (Gold Coins), which they accumulate but cannot redeem for real money. However, when purchasing more Gold Coins, players receive in-game currecny called “Sweeps Cash.”

This virtual currency can be used for Sweeps Cash tournaments and ring games, and can also be won in freerolls. As a player wins more Sweeps Cash, it can be cashed out for real money.

Stepping up for a Global Poker satellite

Ready to get in the game for your shot at the tables in Los Angeles? The Global Poker CPPT tournament satellites are already running.

Players can play for as little as SC$1 with a chance to advance through four levels of qualifiers to win a tournament package. Here’s a look at the complete satellite schedule:

  • Round 1 – SC$1 (several daily in different formats)
  • Round 2 – SC$6.60 (Daily, 9:30 p.m. EST; Sundays, 1:30 p.m. EST)
  • Round 3 – SC$33 (Sundays, 3:20 p.m. EST)
  • Round 4 – SC$240 (Sundays, 5 p.m. EST)

Rounds 1, 2, and 3 are in turbo format with Round 4 in the site’s deepstack format. Those winning in Round 4 tournaments earn the $2,200 CPPT Los Angeles package.

Players can buy in to any round or use a tournament ticket after winning an entry to the next round.
