Going for the Gold: WSOP Announces 14 Online Bracelet Events this Summer

As the World Series of Poker released its summer schedule sporadically over the last few weeks, one question remained. How many online poker events could players expect?

That all changed on Thursday with the release of a schedule of 14 WSOP.com online gold bracelet events. That includes new price points and three freezeout events when events get underway at the Rio in Las Vegas.

“We believe the 2020 offering of online gold bracelet events features our best schedule yet,” WSOP.com director of online poker Danielle Barille said in a news release.

“This year we offer a consistent schedule of Sunday events every week of the WSOP, plus a special selection of eight events from June 28 to July 5 to coincide with the biggest week of the live WSOP when most players are in town to play.”

Expanding opportunities to win a WSOP bracelet

The announcement allows players in New Jersey and Nevada a shot at some big money and a gold bracelet. This year’s slate of events is an increase from only nine events in 2019.

The WSOP noted that with new states regulating and set to open up in the US in the next couple of years, “the WSOP is bolstering its online offerings in 2020 to help elevate this popular variant of poker.”

The WSOP is set to run from May 26 to July 15 this summer with online events scheduled from May 31 to July 12. That includes a stretch of eight events over eight consecutive days from June 28 to July 5.

Three-time bracelet winner Upeshka De Silva added an online bracelet to his trophy case in 2019. He won the $600 No Limit Hold’em Bounty for $98,263. He’s excited to see even more opportunities to multi-table a live event and battle it out online.

“I like them and will be playing all of them,” he told USPoker. “Winning one was great. The true landscape of poker should include live and online. I’m so glad online events are well represented.”

A look at the new WSOP.com online events

With the announcement, the WSOP also hailed several new events on the schedule. Buy-ins this year range in price from $400 to $10,000, and the new offerings from WSOP.com this year include:

  • June 7 – $777 PLO Seven-Handed
  • June 30 – $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em
  • July 2 – $10,000 Super High Roller

The WSOP has made an effort to focus on freezeout and single re-entry events in 2020. That carries over to the online events as well.

There will be three events utilizing the freezeout format and 10 allowing only single re-entry. Only the $777 PLO tournament features more than a single re-entry, instead allowing for three.

With the hashtag #MyFirstWSOP trending last summer, USPoker documented John Forlenza’s first cash. The player from New Jersey notched a small cash in the Millionaire Maker and is now excited about more action online.

“I’m very excited,” he said after the announcement. “I will try and play all of them besides the $10,000 event.”

More details about the online schedule

All WSOP.com online gold bracelet events are expected to be open to anyone inside the borders of Nevada or New Jersey.

The Wire Act continues to be the subject of debate and lawsuits and may have some impact on online poker. But that isn’t expected to derail plans for players in both states.

Those heading to Las Vegas for live events can create and fund an account and withdraw funds from anywhere.

Participants can play in WSOP.com events via desktop, mobile, or tablet for all No-Limit Hold’em events. However, organizers note that a desktop connection is required for the PLO tournament.

All the events today will also be part of a new leaderboard the WSOP has planned for 2020. A similar plan was recently announced for the $1,500 events.

The 14 online events will feature a point-tracking leaderboard throughout the summer with the winner earning additional prizes.

Beyond the bracelet events, the $215 buy-in  “25 Seat Scramble” is set for June 28. The event will award 25 WSOP Main Event seats.
