888poker ambassador and streamer Ian Simpson won his second live 888Live Main Event of 2025 to become the first player to hold two 888poker titles of different types.

Over the weekend, Simpson took down the 888poker UKPL Newcastle Main Event for a £34,800 grand prize. That goes hand in hand with the 888poker Live Madrid Main Event, which he won back in January, for €62,000. He becomes the first player to win an 888poker Live Main Event title and an 888poker UKPL Main Event.

This win in the UKPL Main Event was a hometown win for Simpson, navigating his way past 344 entries in the £560 buy-in event to emerge victorious.

Simpson has been a popular streamer for 888poker since 2022, which was a big year for 888poker, and has had solid live results to supplement his online poker play. He remains one of the top streamers amongst all UK online poker.

Overall, Simpson has over $1.3 million in career earnings, with his most significant single cash coming back in 2013 when he won the Irish Poker Open Main Event for an equivalent amount to about $339,000. The Madrid Main Event win earlier this year was good for his fourth-largest career cash.

On X, the English poker pro reflected on his win, discussing what led him to come out on top. He admitted to running well, defying the poker odds by winning almost every one of his flips and needing at least three 3-outers to stay alive with fewer than 30 players remaining in the tournament.

But he also brought a broader perspective beyond poker. He made sure to mention the specialness of winning it in his hometown of Newcastle, where he did so while battling a mild virus or food poisoning of some sort. He also made sure to give a shoutout to Sinead Davenport and Thomas Clark, who came in second and third place, respectively.

Things are looking rosy for Simpson in all aspects of his life right now, which he talked about in his post on X. He will continue to play live poker as the year rolls on and look to continue his run good.
