Giving online poker players in Pennsylvania something to do during the lead-up to this Sunday’s Super Bowl, PokerStars PA‘s football-themed Winter Series kicked off over the weekend (pun intended).
After just three days the series has already nearly reached its halfway point with 13 of the 30 scheduled events having completed.
Following the success of the PACOOP or Pennsylvania Championship of Online Poker that ran Nov. 30-Dec. 16, the Winter Series has proven similarly attractive among players thus far. Most of the 13 events have eclipsed their guarantees to this point, although four have had overlays.
PokerStars PA building on early momentum
The largest overlay of $4,244 came in the event sporting the largest guarantee to this point, the $200 buy-in Event #7: The Blitz, designated a Special Edition of the Sunday Special. That event featured a $50,000 guarantee, and for the series only the Main Event‘s $100,000 guarantee is greater.
Meanwhile the only non-hold’em event thus far — the $100 buy-in Event #9: The Handoff – PLO — came just one entry shy of hitting its guarantee and thus had a $66 overlay.
PokerStars PA hopes the Winter Series will help round out a successful January following the site’s better than anticipated start to end 2019.
In November the site took in almost $2 million in revenue, then in December earned another $2.47 million.
More poker on tap, plus a FOX Bet promo
In total the inaugural PokerStars PA Winter Series features $675,000 in guarantees, with multiple events scheduled every day (mostly starting during the evening) through Saturday, February 1.
Among the highlights remaining on the schedule is tonight’s The Sack – Super Tuesday Special Edition ($250 buy-in, $40,000 guarantee), The Turnover – High Roller on Wednesday ($500 buy-in, $35,000 guarantee), The Touchdown – Thursday Thrill Special Edition ($200 buy-in, $35,000 guarantee), and the aforementioned The Big Game – Main Event on Saturday ($300 buy-in, $100,000 guarantee).

The Winter Series is being run in association with a FOX Bet “The Big Game” campaign that is allowing new customers to bet on any outcome for Sunday’s NFL season-ending clash.
New Jersey’s Winter Series wraps up
Meanwhile nearby in New Jersey PokerStars NJ just completed the third annual running of its own Winter Series on Sunday. Despite smaller guarantees as compared to PA, the NJ series didn’t disappoint.
The nine-day, 21-event series featured over $300,000 in guarantees. In the end every event exceeded its guarantee, save one that was canceled (a $250 buy-in pot-limit Omaha event). The largest prize pool came in the $60,000 guarantee Main Event, a $400 buy-in tournament that attracted 217 entries (150 entries, 67 re-entries) to build a $81,375 prize pool.
