GGPoker Unveils $30 Million Battle Of Malta Schedule, New WSOP Guinness World Record

The Battle of Malta shifts online at GGPoker for 2020.

GGPoker and Casino Malta recently announced that the Battle of Malta would be moving online this year. The two companies have now unveiled the full schedule for the popular European festival.

The series runs Nov. 1-22 with an overall guaranteed prize pool of $30 million. Players will find 15 championship events also awarding unique Battle of Malta winner’s rings.

A trip to the Mediterranean may not be in order this year. However, players will find plenty of championship online poker at GG.

A look at the Battle of Malta series at GGPoker

The live Battle of Malta was postponed this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Designed for low- to mid-stakes poker players, the series is one of Europe’s biggest and most-anticipated poker events.

A trip to Malta has become synonymous with fun and the lighter side of poker. That includes some unique names for tournaments during the series.

A look at the championship rings awarded this year to Battle of Malta winners at GGPoker.

Names like Crusader’s Cup, King’s Landing, and Bounty for the Queen reflect the island’s unique culture and history.

“Due to the current situation, Casino Malta was ecstatic to be able to find a solution for this year’s Battle of Malta by partnering with such a prestigious brand as GGPoker,” Casino Malta general manager Slawomir Switalski said.

“With the help of this grand festival, our tiny, beautiful island of Malta will be showcased to a broader audience all around the world and we will be excited to invite everyone to our next live event in October 2021.”

The ring events are headlined by the $550 Main Event with $3 million guaranteed. That event features multiple starting flights beginning Nov. 8. Other highlights include:

  • $5,250 High Roller Championship (Nov. 8) – $2 million guaranteed
  • $215 Siege of Malta (multiple Day 1 flights beginning Nov, 8) – $2 million guaranteed
  • $55 Mini Main Event (multiple Day 1 flights beginning Nov. 15) – $1 million guaranteed

Satellites, side events underway; leaderboards award 2021 Battle of Malta packages

Qualifying tournaments for ring events are already underway for those looking to get in the action for a bargain price. Buy-ins start for only $0.55.

Battle of Malta organizers hope the series returns to a live venue on the island in October 2021. The GGPoker version of the festival’s Player of the Series leaderboard includes some live packages for next year.

The leaderboard will award more than €50,000 for the 2021 series. Those in the top 50 will receive prizes.

“With over $30 million to play for, this year’s Battle of Malta will be just as attractive to poker players as previous year’s live festivals,” said John Scanlon, GGPoker director of live events and sponsorships.

“We hope that everyone who planned to play poker in Malta this year will be able to take part, and can’t wait to see who will be crowned this year’s Main Event champion.”

Along with the championship ring events, players will find a stacked schedule of side events. These tournaments feature a broad range of buy-ins and tournament types. Here’s a look at the remaining side events.

GGPoker lands Guinness online poker record

In other GGPoker news, the site recently announced its inclusion in Guinness World Records. The site’s World Series of Poker Online $5,000 Main Event earned the record for “largest prize pool for an online poker tournament.”

That event produced a prize pool of $27,559,500 on Sept. 6, 2020. Guinness official adjudicator Michael Empric informed GGPoker ambassador Daniel Negreanu when the record was verified.

The event lasted 150 hours, 9 minutes, 13 seconds from the first starting flight to the last hand. Bulgaria’s Stoyan Madanzhiev topped the 5,802-player field to earn the $3.9 million and his first WSOP bracelet.

This became the largest individual prize ever awarded in an online poker tournament. A total of 728 finishers shared a record $27.6 million prize pool.

“This Guinness World Records title was on our radar from the very beginning,” said Steve Preiss, GGPoker head of poker operations. “Players and fans of poker expect nothing less than record-breaking prizes when it comes to the World Series of Poker, and GGPoker delivered.”

Players vying for a bracelet internationally certainly helped the series number. That has now broken records and adds to the series’ cachet.

“Breaking a Guinness World Records title shows what happens when you combine GGPoker’s amazing platform with the World Series of Poker brand,” WSOP executive director Ty Stewart said. “This will be a tough record to beat.”

MOUNT UP: Bounty Hunting Rolls on at GGPoker; $40M Guaranteed with $5M in Promotions

The GGPoker Bounty Builder Series continues this week with $40 million guaranteed.

The major tournament action has returned to GGPoker as the Bounty Hunters Series kicked off Oct. 11. The series runs through Oct. 25 and includes a massive 544-event schedule and a $40 million guaranteed prize pool.

The series has reached the final week but still offers plenty of opportunities to get in the action. Bounty hunters will find something for every bankroll – from low stakes buy-ins of $5.25 all the way up to $10,300.

GGPoker Bounty Hunters Series highlights

The new series comes after a successful World Series of Poker Online this summer. That festival awarded gold bracelets like the traditional WSOP in Las Vegas. GG paid out a massive $148 million by the time the events wrapped up.

The Bounty Hunters Series now allows players a chance to earn even more cash scoping out their opponents. The series not only has a unique schedule but also some featured events running throughout. Some of those regular events include:

  • GGMasters Daily – These $25 freezeout events come with a $50,000 guarantee.
  • Super MILLION$ Bounty – A $10,000 events with a $1 million guarantee. GG promotes these as the “biggest bounty ever.”
  • Beat The Pros – These popular $210 tournaments feature a $250,000 guarantee. Players who knock out a pro win a seat into a $5,000 freeroll.
  • Bounty King – Look for three different price points for these tournaments ($3,000, $315, and $31.50) with some huge guarantees.
  • Speed Racer – In these hyper turbo events, players start with only 10 big blinds.

Beyond those players will find bounty events of every type. That includes high rollers, turbos, marathons, six-max, eight-max, and numerous others.

Those looking for something other than Texas Hold’em are in luck and will also find several Pot Limit Omaha events. Here’s a look at some tournaments highlighting the last week of action.

  • $210 Beat The Pros Special Edition, Oct. 24 (Event 313) – $250,000 guaranteed
  • $210 Main Event Special Edition, Oct. 25 (Event 333) – $500,000 guaranteed
  • $157.50 GGMasters Bounty Edition, Oct. 25 (Event 335) – $500,000 guaranteed
  • $1,050 GGMasters High Rollers Bounty Edition, Oct. 25  (Event 336) – $1 million guaranteed
  • $10,300 Super MILLION$ Bounty Hunters, Oct. 25 (Event 339) – $1 million guaranteed

GGPoker adds numerous extra incentives

Along with plenty of tournaments and special events, GGPoker has also added several promotions for players. That includes plenty of satellites throughout the Bounty Hunters Series.

For starters, players will find only a 5% rake for all events. There’s also a $100,000 leaderboard, offering those who shine a shot at some extra cash. The top finisher earns an extra $10,000.

Along with the Bounty Hunters promotions, there are also some other interesting additions at GG in October. Some of those include:

  • $33,000 Daily Leaderboards – Simply play 100 hands of Rush or cash games to qualify for a shot at one of 14 leaderboards.
  • Spin & Gold – Take part this month for a shot at a share of $20,000 daily.
  • Daily Free Spin – simply log in to your account and earn a $0.25 free Spin & Gold ticket. Players can win as much as 12,000 times their money.
  • $20,000 Leaderboards – These offer more ways to win for Texas Hold’em and Omaha players.
  • Short Deck Cash – Jump in these cash games for a shot at $7,500 daily leaderboards.

STREAMING STAR: ‘Big Brother’ Winner Kevin Martin Joins GGPoker Twitch Stream Squad

Kevin Martin knows what it’s like to be under pressure – and not just at the poker table. The 27-year-old poker pro is a two-time competitor on the Canadian version of Big Brother – winning in 2017 for $100,000 and a new car.

“I could write a full book on this,” he says laughing about his time on the reality show. “It was intense – the most rewarding and difficult experience I’ve ever encountered. I say the mental game of poker is easy compared to Big Brother.”

The native of Calgary, Alberta, now has another interesting bullet point to his resumé. Martin is the first member of GGPoker’s new GGSquad stream team. He looks forward to a fun new page in his media and poker life.

My role at GGPoker is to continue making the best poker shows possible while also bringing that extra level of community relations,” he says, “continuing to make poker more accessible and enjoyable to the common player.”

Big Brother and a life at the poker table

The new role with GGPoker comes after a life of making lofty goals. As a teenager, those included getting cast on and then winning Big Brother.

“It is surreal I accomplished it,” he says. “There were no other poker players, just a bunch of wild, beautiful people.”

Before his score in reality television, the poker table was his daily reality. He got into the game in 2014, playing live and devouring all the basic strategy content he could.

Martin loves the mano a mano nature of the game – flipping the odds in his favor. After getting into the game, he believed success would head his way if he continued to apply himself.

After three months, Martin quit his job in radio to pursue his new passion full time. So far that’s worked out well. He has more than $300,000 in live tournament earnings as well as additional online winnings. Letting his family know about his new career wasn’t easy.

A look at new GGSquad member Kevin Martin at the mic.

I come from a conservative religious family so the original response was quite poor,” he says. “It didn’t deter me though, I knew what I was capable of.

“Thankfully after some of the success I’ve had, they’ve come around to it. They always support me. I’m sure if I made a call to my mom and told her I’m going to change my career to something else she would be happy deep down.”

A Twitch poker original

When Twitch launched in 2011, the platform was meant for video gaming. In fact, it was against the terms of service to stream poker until 2015.

“As soon as that changed my friend Jaime Staples predicted it would be huge and encouraged me to get involved,” Martin says.

Streaming has now become a growing poker trend and that’s included significantly growing numbers during the Coronavirus pandemic. But just five years ago it was a completely new phenomenon for the game.

Martin jumped on board and began betting and bluffing in this new media realm. He became one of the first people to use the platform. What sets his stream apart from others?

“I’ve been told my stream is relatable,” he says. “People feel it’s a good atmosphere and that I present a nice relaxed and enjoyable presence.

“I appreciate the kind words I am just out here trying to make the best shows possible while also winning some money”

Streaming the WSOP at GGPoker

A rapport with viewers and building an audience is important for any streamer. Martin must have succeeded and GGPoker came calling after he took a break from content creation in 2019.

Then the World Series of Poker Online brought him back to the action.

“For the first time ever the WSOP was going to be an online event due to the pandemic and I had a sense of how epic the series was going to be,” he says.

John Scanlon [GG director of live events and sponsorships] got in touch because they liked the stuff I was making. We collaborated through the whole WSOP and put on some amazing streams. I consider it the best stuff I have made in the last five years.”

The WSOP streaming partnership went so well that his role was recently made official. He’s now a brand ambassador as part of the GGSquad streaming team.

“GGPoker really has exploded this past year,” Martin says, “and it’s a fresh and exciting brand to work with.”

Super Saturdays with the GG team

GGPoker is the fastest growing online poker site in the world. The site made big news in 2020 with its partnership with the WSOP. The site will also be hosting the Battle of Malta online in November.

Martin becomes a key part of the site’s content creation team. The GGSquad’s primary role is to engage and entertain GG fans and the wider poker community. That includes showcasing the brand with plenty of fun in mind.

GG’s new “Saturday Session” becomes a big part of that. Saturdays now feature a major site programming block on Twitch. Poker fans will find streams like:

  • Beat the Pros – Players who knock out Team GG pros Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier and others earn a seat in a $5,000 freeroll.
  • GGMasters Last Longer – Players can jump in the $25 GGMasters Daily and also earn a $210 Beat the Pros ticket.
  • GGStaker – Viewers will be awarded five $210 Beat the Pros tickets.

“I’m thrilled to welcome both Kevin and the five other founding team members to GGSquad,” Scanlon says. “These players are some of the most exciting around, and engaging with our community each week during our Saturday Sessions, they will make GGPoker an even more fun place to play poker.”

New online poker boom, growing the game

It’s been a huge year for online poker and GGPoker has certainly been a big part of that. Martin hopes the current environment gets even more people interested in poker. He’s hoping his own streaming efforts can also help that trend.

“It’s great to see more people get into the game,” Martin says. “I’ve always believed that poker content plays a big part. Having fun personalities stream poker and make YouTube videos really does bring in a lot of people.”

Online poker operators need to keep adapting, Martin says. He believes GGPoker is doing that and one of the reasons he’s been such a fan of the company.

“They’ve added so many new features and fun elements this past year,” he says. “I’ve never seen a poker company improve their product faster.”

When not streaming, Martin enjoys working out. His girlfriend is a personal trainer, he’s been getting into weightlifting more. He’s also obsessed with golf, but the recent Calgary snowfall has curtailed that for now.

Always a goal setter, he hopes to break 80 but has come up just short so far. While Martin’s time in the tee box may be on hold for a while, look for him right back streaming on GG soon. Pleased with his new role, Martin hopes to be a big part of GG’s expanded move into Twitch streaming.

“Life is good,” he says. “I am a very blessed individual and I’m excited for what the future holds. Come hang out with me on Twitch; we always have a good time.”

WSOP ROUNDUP: Series Smashes Online Poker Records; Fedor Holz Scores Bracelet & $1 Million

The WSOP Online smashed online poker records at GGPoker.

After more than two months of action at WSOP.com and GGPoker, the World Series of Poker Online wrapped up over the weekend. The series produced record-breaking numbers.

“I’m personally very proud to be part of the effort that brought such a special WSOP series to the entire world,” GGPoker ambassador Daniel Negreanu said in a news release. “The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and we even got to break a lot of poker records along the way.”

Those numbers were big indeed and delivered nice results in a series that didn’t include an overall guarantee. Bulgaria’s Stoyan Madanzhiev took down the series highlight, the $5,000 Main Event

WSOP Online Main Event breaks online records

For winning the Main Event, Madanzhiev collected the first bracelet of his career and took home $3.9 million. The event attracted 5,802 entries, which created a $27.6 million prize pool.

That was quite a result for Madanzhiev, whose Hendon Mob page lists only $31,000 in live tournament winnings. ESPN cameras may not have been there, but a video posted on Twitter captured his excitement and disbelief.

These numbers made the Main Event the largest online poker tournament in history. The payout also became the largest online tournament prize ever.

The WSOP Online wasn’t exactly the traditional WSOP in Las Vegas. However, organizers were happy players could battle for a bracelet both in the US and abroad.

“Obviously the events of 2020 have been unprecedented, and hosting the WSOP Online series at GGPoker wasn’t in our plans at the start of the year,” WSOP executive director Ty Stewart said.

“But going online has been a wonderful experience, with tens of thousands of new players all over the world able to experience some of WSOP magic that they might have been otherwise unable to. We’re delighted that the series has been such a resounding success.”

Here’s a look at the complete list of winners and event details.

A look at WSOP Online numbers overall

The flagship WSOP live poker series in Las Vegas was postponed this year due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The series became an attempt to give players some big online action with a chance to win a bracelet.

Online operators have seen massive fields in recent months and the WSOP Online was a perfect example of that trend.

“For 50 years, the WSOP has been the gold standard in the industry,” GGPoker head of poker operations Steve Preiss said. “By introducing features like SnapCam and Day 2 staking, GGPoker’s entire team worked tirelessly to bring our players a fun, unique experience just like they’d expect at the live WSOP.”

The entire schedule came up just short of awarding $150 million in prize money, topping out at $147.8 million. That created an average prize pool of $2.7 million.

The series produced 239,754 entries. Here are some other numbers that stand out.

  • Largest online tournament ever – $27,559,500 prize pool in $5,000 Main Event
  • Largest online tournament prize ever awarded –  $3,904,685 in $5,000 Main Event
  • Most entries ever for WSOP tournament – 44,576 in Event 71: BIG 50
  • Nationalities across entire WSOP Online – 166
  • Tournaments with a prize pool of at least:
    • $1 million – 45
    • $5 million – 5
    • $10 million – 2
  • Tournaments with more than 10,000 entries – 5

Fedor Holz does it again

No stranger to notching huge paydays, GGPoker ambassador Fedor Holz did it again during the WSOP Online. On Sept. 6, the German superstar took down Event 79: $25,000 Heads-Up NLHE (People’s Choice, Most Popular) for $1.1 million.

The win secures the second bracelet of his career and moves his WSOP earnings to $12 million. Brazil’s Brunno Botteon de Albuquerque took runner-up for $622,300 – his second finish as runner-up in the series.

The same day as his heads-up win, Holz finished runner-up in a $10,000 side event for $202,162. That’s not a bad day of work.

Holz’s first bracelet came in 2016 when he won the $111,111 High Roller for One Drop for $5 million. In 2018, he also finished runner-up in the $1 million Big One for One Drop and took home $6 million.

Along with his role as ambassador at GGPoker, Holz also runs the Pokercode training site. He also recently became part of the PepTalk  live video coaching and speaking platform.

It’s been a busy time for Holz, but it certainly seems to be paying off.

International competition wraps with US on top

The final WSOP week proved rewarding for American players. That included bracelets from Jeffrey Dobrin, Connor Drinan, and Michael Gathy.

All three earned their first WSOP wins and extended the lead of the US. With the action complete, the US takes the title in this informal competition.

In total, the Americans brought home 10 bracelets, followed by Canada with five. Here’s a look at the complete final standings:

Bracelets by County

  • US – 10
  • Canada – 5
  • Brazil – 4
  • United Kingdom – 3
  • Italy – 3
  • Lithuania – 2
  • Finland – 2

GGPoker Final Leaderboard standings

The race to top the bracelet leaderboard came to a close with Main Event winner Stoyan Madanzhiev taking the title. Along with that win, he produced three other cashes to launch him into the top spot.GGPoker Final Leaderboard standings

The sheer size of his win helped him leapfrog other contenders. Drinan’s win and 14 other cashes gave him the runner-up slot.

The winner receives a solid gold computer mouse trophy. Ssecond through fifth earn a solid gold playing card. Here’s a look at the complete leaderboard:

  • 1st – Stoyan Madanzhiev (Bulgaria), 10,790.66
  • 2nd – Connor Drinan (United States), 9,519.35
  • 3rd – Christian Rudolph (Austria), 7,566.31
  • 4th – Daniel Dvoress (Canada), 6,513.57
  • 5th – Brunno Botteon de Albuquerque (Brazil), 6,345.54

A golden dragon is also awarded to the player winning the WSOP Asia Time Zone Leaderboard. Brazil’s Luis Assuncao captured that crown.

Will there be a live WSOP at all this year?

While players around the world may be ready to head back to the tables, there still isn’t a timetable for major events like the WSOP and World Poker Tour.

WSOP officials are remaining tight-lipped after postponing the series to the fall. That move came in April and there hasn’t been much discussion regarding possible live series events.

In the meantime, WSOP.com has already started its 50th Anniversary Series in the US. Until more live poker tournaments return, players will have to jump in the action online.

WSOP ROUNDUP: Main Event Underway, Numbers Remain Strong, Players Support Mike Sexton

Play has reached the final week in the WSOP Online at GGPoker.

The Main Event is underway in the World Series of Poker Online and the entire festival wraps up on Sunday. It’s been a big two months for the series at WSOP.com and GGPoker, and just a few day remain.

Over the last week, there have been some nice scores including the $25,000 Poker Players Championship. The numbers remain strong and a Canadian also made headlines – breaking through for his first major cash and a bracelet.

Along with the game on the virtual felt, many players expressed support for poker legend Mike Sexton. The poker world learned he’s been battling prostate cancer.

Here’s a look at some of the WSOP news over the last week.

Entry numbers dip, but prize pools and payouts vault higher after Main Event

While the number of entries dipped by about 400 on average, prize pools remain strong. A nice turnout for the $5,000 Main Event helped that situation.

The series has seen an average of 3,999 entries over the last week with a $2.7 million prize pool. That’s an increase of more than $600,000.

The average winner payout has moved to about $392,000. A pair of $1,000 events added to those totals with some small buy-in events also mixed in.

Here’s a look at averages from the series as well as a complete list of winners and statistics:

Tournament averages

  • Entries – 3,999
  • Prize pool – $2.7 million
  • Winner payout – $392,000

Series totals

  • Entries – 193,743
  • Prize pool – $124,572,601
  • Winner payout – $18,428,024

$50,000 Poker Players Championship draws poker elite with American winning $3.9 million

The $50,000 Poker Players Championship is one of the biggest events each summer at the WSOP in Las Vegas. This summer the $25,000 Poker Players Championship has taken its place, although with a NLHE format rather than mixed games.

The event came with a guaranteed prize pool of $10 million. Austria’s Christian Rudolph took the title for $1.8 million and his first bracelet.

Last year, Rudolph finished runner-up in the €25,500 NLHE Super High Roller at the WSOP Europe for $596,703. He now has some vindication in another big buy-in event and more than $4 million in tournament winnings.

Other big finishers included: Chris Hunichen (runner-up, $1.3 million); Shankar Pillai (third, $979,138); and Jason Koon (seventh, $285,808).

Canadian conquers with first major cash – and wins a bracelet in the process

No Hendon Mob cashes, no GGPoker cashes – no problem. At least that was the case for Jim Lefteruk. He took down the $1,000 NLHE Six Handed event for $299,511.

Not much is known about this player but he now has a massive score and a WSOP bracelet. His victory proves that just about anything can happen in the world of poker.

Lefteruk also adds another win for his home country. That now stands at five as the Canadians try to close the gap on the Americans.

GGPoker Main Event becomes a smash hit

Only 38 players remain in the field in the $5,000 Main Event and battle today in the final day of play. Beyond a bracelet, there’s quite a bit to play for.

The event already came with a $25 million guarantee but attracted 5,802 entries for almost a $28 million prize pool. The winner hauls in $3.9 million.

When action resumes, Bryan Piccioli leads the field. Poker fans probably recognize that name. He finished sixth in the 2017 Main Event in Las Vegas for $1.7 million.

Piccioli is now seeking his second bracelet after winning a WSOP Asia Pacific event in 2013. Adding this title and another massive score would certainly be nice for his poker resumé.

Players express support for Mike Sexton

Many in the poker world turned their attention to longtime World Poker Tour analyst Mike Sexton on Tuesday. The poker player has been battling prostate cancer, according to poker player Linda Johnson.

She’s been in contact with Sexton and was authorized to release the news via Twitter. The cancer recently spread to other organs, she said, and he began in-home hospice care a month ago.

Many players expressed their support and affection for the popular “ambassador of poker.”

“Jan Fisher and I read your tweets to Mike Sexton today and he asked me to thank you all so much for your love and support,” Fisher noted on Tuesday. “He is too tired to personally answer emails, texts, and tweets but he wants you to know he is touched by them. Mike has requested privacy at this rough time.”

No stranger to success at the WSOP, Sexton has $2.7 million in series winnings in a poker career stretching back to the 1980s. He won a bracelet in 1989 and also added a WPT title in 2016.

Beyond his work with the WPT, Sexton worked as a partypoker founder and serves as chairman of the company. Players expressed their appreciation and support for Sexton throughout Tuesday.

“It’s hard to overstate the impact Mike has had on our world,” Erik Seidel Tweeted on Tuesday. “His enthusiasm and love for poker has been so infectious and pure, he  changed the game forever. I hope he feels our love and appreciation.”

In 2009, Sexton was elected to the Poker Hall of Fame and released his autobiography Life’s a Gamble in 2016. His impact on poker has been much bigger than the game on the felt.

US, Canada pulling away in battle of nations

The battle for the country with the most bracelets remains basically a two-country race. The United States is still at the top spot with seven with Canada two spots behind with five.

Both countries collected another win over the last week. American Ajay Chabra won the $1,500 Limit Hold’em event for $77,475. Canada’s Jim Lefteruk won the $1,000 NLHE Six Handed for $299,511.

A couple other countries entered the standings with wins over the last week as well. Italy, Finland, and Lithuania all now have two bracelets and here are the complete standings.

Bracelets by country

  • US – 7
  • Canada – 5
  • Brazil – 4
  • United Kingdom – 3
  • China – 2
  • Italy – 2
  • Lithuania – 2
  • Finland – 2

GGPoker leaderboard standings

There has been a change at the top of the bracelet leaderboard. After winning the $25,000 Poker Players Championship, Christian Rudolph has overtaken Canada’s Daniel Dvoress, who slides to second.

Here’s a look at the complete leaderboard:

  • 1st – Christian Rudolph (Austria), 7,566.31
  • 2nd – Daniel Dvoress (Canada), 6,513.57
  • 3rd – Alek Stasiak (Canada), 6,174.40
  • 4th – Ivan Zufic (Croatia), 5,719.69
  • 5th – Ravid Garbi (Israel), 5,450.71

The winner receives a solid gold computer mouse trophy, and second through fifth earn a solid gold playing card.

A golden dragon is awarded to the player winning the WSOP Asia Time Zone leaderboard. Brazil’s Luis Assuncao still leads that race.

Bracelet hunting wraps up this weekend

Just a few days remain in the WSOP Online with events finishing up on Sunday, Sept. 6. The $5,000 Main Event finishes up Saturday, but a few other events also stand out.

Players will find two people’s choice events this week and GGPoker has announced what those will be. Look for a $600 NLHE Six-Handed on Wednesday and a $1,050 NLHE Bounty Six-Handed on Thursday.

Also, the $1,050 Beat the Pros bounty event on Saturday should attract a nice field. The pros-as-bounties angle adds to the fun.

Sunday brings a wrap to a few events with big guarantees. The $10,000 Super MILLION$ with a $5 million guarantee and the $100 MILLION$ ($2 million guaranteed) will both crown a winner.

Lastly, the $500 Closer aptly puts a bow on the series. Players will have one more shot at a bracelet and should attract a nice player pool. here’s the complete schedule of remaining events:

WSOP Big 50 goes gargantuan at GGPoker

Another week, another huge-field event at the GGPoker WSOP Online. This week it was the Big 50, with a fitting $50 buy-in and $2 million guarantee.

The event produced a Herculean 44,576 entries, the biggest number of the series. The tournament beat the guarantee and ultimately paid out $2.1 million.

The WSOP and GGPoker have announced a new summer online bracelet series.

When the dust settled, it was China’s Huahuan Feng coming out on top of the fifty-buck bonanza. For his efforts Feng took home a bracelet and $211,282

Feng has just over $391,000 in live tournament winnings. The biggest of that was an event in Korea, where he finished runner-up for $176,985.

The Big 50 became the fourth event with a player pool reaching five figures. The others were the Opener, Colossus, and Mini Main Event. Here’s a quick look at all these events.

  • $100 Opener – 29,306 entries, $2.7 million prize pool
  • $400 Colossus – 12,757 entries, $4.8 million prize pool
  • $500 Mini Main Event – 15,205 entries, $7.3 million
  • $50 Big 50 – 44,576 entries, $2,050,496 guarantee

Massive run continues for Toby Joyce

It’s been quite a year for Toby Joyce. He now has 12 cashes in the series on GG and the 11th was quite special.

In the $800 Pot Limit Omaha, Joyce won his first bracelet for $139,453. He also scored a 13th-place finish in the $5,000 PLO Championship for $20,872.

The PLO results show the versatility in this player originally from Galway, Ireland. In December, Joyce finished runner-up in the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic for $1.1 million.

WSOP Online bracelet winner Toby Joyce

Joyce also scored 12th and 14th-place finishes on the tour this season. He now sits in fourth in the WPT Player of the Year standings.

After several years devoted to online poker, Joyce transitioned to traveling the world playing poker over the last few years. He likes the travel and interactions with new people that go with life on the poker circuit.

“For the first few years I played kind of by myself in an isolated way and didn’t really know anybody else in poker,” he told WPT.com in December. “I then came a bit fed up with poker. I was kind of over it. I’d won a bunch of money and didn’t feel great. I didn’t get what I expected from it.

“I then started traveling more to play live and met a lot of friends in poker and traveled with them to different places. It would be great to get a big score live after putting in so much work.”

Another bracelet adds to series-leading US total

As the WSOP Online marches on, the US added to its total lead among all countries in the series. Nick Maimone took down the $1,500 Marathon for his first bracelet and $302,472.

Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, Maimone has $2.2 million in live tournament winnings. That includes a deep run in the WSOP Main Event in 2009, finishing 15th for $633,022.

The Marathon win added to the American success in the competition for which country could win the most bracelets. The US has a total of six bracelets, now a two-tournament lead.

Huahuan Feng’s win in the Big 50 added a second bracelet to China’s total. Here’s a look at the standings as of Aug. 26.

Bracelets by Country

  • US – 6
  • Canada – 4
  • Brazil – 4
  • United Kingdom – 3
  • China – 2

Canadians score top spots on leaderboard

A pair of Canadians continue to dominate the top two places in the GGPoker WSOP Online leaderboard. Daniel Dvoress, winner of the Millionaire Maker, remains in the lead.

Canada’s Alek Stasiak also keeps his spot in second place. Mini Main Event winner Ivan Zufic moved to third last week but hasn’t added to that total since then.

Here’s a look at the complete leaderboard:

  • 1st – Daniel Dvoress (Canada), 6,326.03
  • 2nd – Alek Stasiak (Canada), 6,174.40
  • 3rd – Ivan Zufic (Croatia), 5,719.69
  • 4th – Ranno Sootla (Estonia), 5,021.13
  • 5th – Belarmino De Souza (Brazil), 4,962.18

The winner receives a solid gold mouse trophy (the computer type). Players finishing second through fifth earn a solid gold playing card.

A golden dragon is awarded to the player winning the WSOP Asia Time Zone leaderboard. Brazil’s Luis Assuncao currently leads that race.

WSOP Online week ahead at GGPoker

Plenty of interesting events remain on the schedule over the next week including the first People’s Choice events. GGPoker ambassador Daniel Negreanu announced the first of these this week.

A $25,000 Head-Up tournament is set for Tuesday, Sept. 1, with a field capped at 128. Two more People’s Choice events are planned for next Wednesday and Thursday, but those specifics haven’t yet been announced.

A few more smaller buy-in events dot the schedule this weekend. The $300 Double Stack is set for Saturday and the $400 Forty Stack on Sunday. These should produce some nice results for weekend warriors.

Sunday also brings Day 2 of the $5,000 Main Event after numerous starting flights and satellites. It may not be the real championship in Las Vegas, but plenty will be out for some online glory.

The $25 million guaranteed prize pool only adds to the prestige. Here’s a look at the remaining events on the schedule.

WSOP Roundup: Mini Main Swells Prize Pool, Americans Score Gold, Negreanu Frustrated, & More

The World Series of Poker Online continues at GGPoker with just a few more events remaining. Here's a look at some action from the last week.

Less than a month of bracelet hunting remains for players in the World Series of Poker Online at GGPoker. However, plenty of action lies ahead and the last week saw some big names make waves in the series.

One of those is David Peters, who added a bracelet to his illustrious career. Chris Moorman also came close to poker’s biggest prize and Daniel Negreanu has experienced some frustration.

Here’s a look at all the major WSOP headlines over the last week.

WSOP Online numbers stay strong with increasing prize pools and winner payouts

With 34 events at GGPoker now in the books, the numbers in the series continued to shine. In the last week, the average winner payout increased by more than $135,000.

The average prize pool rose by almost $14,000. The $500 Mini Main Event was a massive part of those increases. That tournament alone had 15,205 entries and a prize pool of $7.2 million. Croatia’s Ivan Zufic took the title for $843,460.

The WSOP and GGPoker have announced a new summer online bracelet series.

The Mini Main was one of the tournaments offering players a guarantee – $5 million. That total was destroyed and the event became the second-largest prize pool and winner of the series after the Millionaire Maker ($9 million and $1.5 million).

The $5,000 NLHE Six-Handed Championship also drew well with a $3.2 million prize pool. Israel scored its first bracelet winner of the series with Ravid Garbi winning $531,513.

Here’s a look at complete numbers, averages so far.

Tournament averages

  • Entries – 3,641
  • Prize pool – $2.1 million
  • Winner payout – $313,654

Series totals

  • Entries – 123,784
  • Prize pool – $72. 6 million
  • Winner payout – $10.7 million

‘Unknown’ players shine – and shine up new WSOP bracelets

A few “unknown” names came to the forefront over the last week. Ivan Zufic, winner of the Mini Main Event, leads the pack after winning the event for $843,460.

The Croatian had only one $571 score on his Hendon Mob profile before cashing in. Russia’s Anatoly Suvarov’s win in the $ 150 GGMasters WSOP Edition topped his entire live tournament earnings of $178,947.

Ravid Garbi now has eight cashes in the series but only $29,000 in live tournament winnings. He capped his series off by winning the $5,000 NLHE Championship for $531,513.

Alexander “MightyWarrior” Stacey, of the United Kingdom, also hit the poker scene in a big way last week. Despite only $1,100 in live tournament winnings, he showed some chops at the virtual tables.

Stacey won the $300 Monster Stack NLHE 6-Handed for $127,660. In this case, the warrior slayed the monster.

Dmytro Bystrovzorov had just a single $555 live tournament cash before winning the $600 NLHE Deepstack for $227,906. His ironic GGPoker username is “Too Bad.” Insert your own joke here.

A few bigger names running deep

While several unknowns made some waves in the WSOP Online, a few heavyweights also checked in with nice scores. Chris Moorman battled for his first bracelet last week in the $5,000 NLHE Championship.

The English poker pro and Team 888poker ambassador came up just short, finishing runner-up for $398,393. He now has five cashes in the series and despite not winning the bracelet, Moorman was pleased.

In July he also had a fourth-place finish in a $500 PLO event at WSOP.com for $28,601. Moorman now has 15 cashes in the WSOP Online at both sites.

In the $10,000 Heads Up Championship, David Peters added the second bracelet of his career. No stranger to success on the felt, he’s now seventh on the all-time money list.

The win brought $360,480 and adds to a stellar career that includes $34 million in live tournament winnings.

Daniel Negreanu has also been finding plenty of deep runs. The GGPoker ambassador has been quite a grinder, totaling 15 cashes on WSOP.com and 12 on GG.

Despite that, it’s been frustrating for the Canadian six-time bracelet winner. His best finish came in the $10,000 Heads Up Championship, where he took 13th for $24,832.

“Constantly getting there,” he noted on Twitter. “Constantly on the outside looking in at the final table.”

That’s included several rough beats and this hand from Tuesday provides a good example.

Canadian tops series leaderboard

Daniel Dvoress remains in the top spot on the bracelet series leaderboard after winning the Millionaire Maker for $1.5 million. The Canadian remains just ahead of his fellow countryman Alek Stasiak.

Mini Main Event winner Ivan Zufic now vaults into the third-place spot.  Here’s a look at the complete leaderboard:

  • 1st – Daniel Dvoress (Canada), 6,185.90
  • 2nd – Alek Stasiak (Canada), 6,063.43
  • 3rd – Ivan Zufic (Croatia), 5,719.69
  • 4th – Ranno Sootla (Estonia), 5,021.13
  • 5th – Belarmino De Souza (Brazil), 4,912.17

US overtakes Canada in bracelet totals

In the race to see which country can collect the most hardware, the United States moved ahead with five bracelets. That comes after wins by Americans David Peters and Bradley Ruben. The latter won the $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha event for $220,160.

The Americans find the top spot despite not legally being able to play the series within their own borders.

Brazil also tied the Canadians with four bracelets after Leonardo Mattos took down the $2,500 Double Stack for $399,047. The United Kingdom sits behind those with three bracelets.

Looking at the week ahead

Some major action is planned for the week ahead. On Thursday and Saturday, players will find a pair of $500 bargain buy-ins. The deep stack is in the Asian time zone, but both should attract nice numbers.

Sunday, Aug. 23, brings big events as well. Look for big names in the $25,000 Poker Players Championship – with a $10 million guarantee.

The final day of the Big 50 also plays out on Sunday. That event comes with a $1 million guarantee for just $50. Here’s a look at the complete schedule remaining in the series.
