Inside Triton Poker: A Look at GGPoker Partnership, Mobile App, Upcoming Cyprus Series

Triton Poker may be entering a new stage as the high roller series continues seeing its partnership with GGPoker grow

Triton Poker may be entering a new stage as the high roller series continues seeing its partnership with GGPoker grow. The company announced a deal with GG in March and that’s led to more Triton opportunities for online poker players around the world.

The Super High Roller Series Cyprus is only days away, running Sept. 5-19 with 13 high roller events on tap. With GG now part of the equation, look for several online players to rub elbows with some of the biggest names in the game.

“This partnership has great synergy between the titans of online and offline poker, with the experience of both GGPoker and Triton, we share a common goal of growing the global poker fanbase,” Triton CEO Andy Wong told PokerScout.

Wong also spoke about the company’s efforts at growing the Triton Poker Plus mobile app. The multimedia offers gives players the complete inside scoop on the world’s biggest high roller series.

Expanding Triton online opportunities

For poker fans, Triton has become known for two big major bullet points: huge buy-ins and payouts; and slick production value. Those efforts look to continue and the deal with GG now offers average Joe players a chance to be part of that.

It’s now possible for online poker players of all levels to have a chance to play on such a major stage with massive price points they might not otherwise be able to achieve. This puts the company on par with other major live series offering online qualifiers. These are already underway for the upcoming Triton Super High Roller Series Cyprus.

“We are definitely looking to expand the online qualifiers for the rest of the calendar to introduce new players to play at Triton events,” Wong says. “The online qualifiers are open to anyone who can play on GGPoker, and it gives an exciting opportunity to anyone to be a part of this.

“The online qualifiers will hopefully increase the diversity of players, including recreational players, who show up at Triton tournaments. As part of the Triton DNA, even with the higher-level tournaments such as the Triton Million, we always encourage a good mix of professional players playing against recreational players.”

Wong wouldn’t comment on possible Triton online events, but perhaps that may be in the works at some point. Online players will have to wait and see.

Either way, seeing some recreational players as part of the mix seems enticing for more poker operators. Will an online qualifier rise up and find a nice score in North Cyprus? This adds another fun possibility for those checking out the action.

Triton Poker growing app capabilities

Along with the GGPoker partnership, Triton is also working to ramp up the company’s mobile app. Triton is already known for offering nice streaming production via its YouTube channel. The company has also found some success syndicating Triton coverage on television in recent years.

The Triton Poker Plus app also gives poker fans easy access to everything Triton. Users will find a range of comprehensive player and tournament data as well as the opportunity to view more than 500 hours of event coverage. Poker fans and players will also find:

  • live chip counts
  • seating charts
  • payouts
  • live tournament details
  • schedules
  • player of the year rankings

“Triton Poker Plus brings an added dimension to how fans can live stream their favorite players at our events,” Wong says. “Enhanced poker entertainment right at your fingertips with full live data on all tournaments and recent hand histories of fan-favorite players – paving a better way to watch poker.”

Coin Rivet, Luxon Pay partnerships include tournaments, Espen Jorstad cash game

Along with the GG partnership, Coin Rivet also has become a Triton partner. The company is running the Coin Rivet Invitational from Sept. 10-12 in conjunction with the Super High Roller Series Cyprus.

The event features a $200,000 buy-in and a unique mix of pros and well-heeled business professionals. The player cap on the event was recently increased from 64 to 80.

When play kicks off, pros and businessmen are separated on the first day of the tournament. The fields are then merged on Day 2. World Series of Poker Main Event champion Espen Jorstad was also hosting a live cash game as part of the Mediterranean Poker Party, which precedes the Triton series.

All major final tables are streamed on the Luxon Pay YouTube channel with commentary from Henry Kilbane and James Dempsey.

WSOP Online: First Winners Crowned at GGPoker; Mystery Bounty Tops 23K Entries So Far

Just a few days into the WSOP Online at GGPoker, three winners have already been awarded and the Mystery Bounty has reached 23,000 entries.

Just a few days into the World Series of Poker Online at GGPoker, three winners have already been awarded. All three are first-time bracelet winners and two of those earned six-figure paydays.

The series features 33 bracelet events running though Sept. 27 at GG for international players. The action then switches to WSOP.com from Sept. 10 – Oct. 18 for players in legalized US markets. Here’s a quick look at the action so far.

Event 1: $500 The Housewarming

This No Limit Hold’em event kicked off the series and the bargain buy-in produced a hefty field. The Housewarming brought in 5,099 entries for a $2.4 million prize pool. Germany’s Stefan Schillhabel (pictured in lead image, courtesy of PokerGO) came out on top for $296,410.

Schillhabel has $9.5 million in live tournament winnings including a seventh-place finish in the $5,000 WSOP Online Main Event in 2020 for $467,825. His poker record includes numerous other major wins and top finishes.

The biggest of those came in 2017 in the Super High Roller Bowl, where he took seventh for $2.4 million.

Following the WSOP Online win, Schillhabel certainly seemed pleased to add his first bracelet.

Event 2: $1,111 Every 1 for War Relief

This charity event sent a portion of the prize pool to Ukraine war relief efforts. The event also produced the second-straight six-figure payout of the series with another German finding the winner’s circle.

Claas Segebrecht came out on top for $102,152 and his debut bracelet. The event attracted 730 entries for an $811,030 prize pool.

Segebrecht has more than $2.7 million in live tournament winnings. In 2019 he came close to winning a bracelet, finishing runner-up in the WSOP Europe Main Event for $779,275.

#3: $2,500 Limit Hold’em Championship

Brazil remains a hotspot for online poker and the game in general, and a Brazilian grabbed a bracelet in this event. Rafael “BruxoR10” Caiaffa found his first bracelet for $64,671.

The event brought in 124 entries for a $294,500 prize pool. After getting into poker in 2006 and playing as a pro, Caiaffa began playing again in April after a two-year layoff. He jumped in a few live and online events over the last few months.

“I don’t take poker as a profession anymore, but it’s a hobby that ends up giving me a financial return,” he told iGaming Brazil recently. “So I play online when I feel like it, sporadically, online and cash games, but what I really like is live.

“My goal is to play the Brazilian circuit like I’ve been doing for the last few years, the BSOP and maybe some other tournament that I have here in Brazil. And eventually the WSOP in Las Vegas, which gives it a bigger spotlight.”

Caiaffa may not have won a bracelet in Vegas, but no doubt adding an online bracelet to his poker resumé was a nice way to get back to the tables.

Less than a month after events wrapped up at the World Series of Poker, the bracelet action returns for online poker players at GGPoker and WSOP.com.

Looking ahead

As the weekend approaches, even more bracelet action lies ahead. Event 4: $1,050 Bounty Deepstack is set for Thursday. That’s followed by Event 5: $315 Six-Handed Bounty NLHE on Saturday.

Sunday brings Event 6: $800 Monster Stack, which should produce a monstrous field of players.

After numerous starting flights, Monday’s action brings Day 2 of the $10 million Mystery Bounty. Satellites start at just $1 and one lucky bounty winner can score a $1 million bounty grand prize.

As of Thursday, starting flights had attracted 23,163 entries with more set for the weekend. GG officials expected a big increase in entries over the weekend and hoped to meet the guarantee ahead of Day 2.

GGPoker Offers Details on WSOP Online $10 Million Mystery Bounty; $1 Million Grand Prize

The WSOP Online officially runs Aug. 14 – Sept. 27 at GGPoker and the site released more details on the $10 Million Mystery Bounty this week.

The World Series of Poker Online officially runs Aug. 14 – Sept. 27 at GGPoker, but some starting flights have already begun. The site also released some key details of the $210 Mystery Bounty event this week.

GG is pushing this major event, which has seen Day 1 flights already beginning as well. The tournament comes with a hefty $10 million guarantee. One lucky player will also win a $1 million bounty prize as part of the fun.

What is a mystery bounty tournament?

A mystery bounty is a twist on a traditional bounty tournament. In a regular bounty event, players are awarded a certain amount for each player they eliminate. That amount is usually fixed and added to the player’s winnings immediately.

However in a mystery bounty, a player receives a random “mystery bounty” instead. These can be much higher than traditional bounties and depend on random drawing.

The events have become popular among players both live and online because of this fun element added to the tournament. In the WSOP Online Mystery Bounty, one player will grab the maximum seven-figure score.

Less than a month after events wrapped up at the World Series of Poker, the bracelet action returns for online poker players at GGPoker and WSOP.com.

How to get in the GGPoker WSOP Mystery Bounty

GG is promising quite a Mystery Bounty tournament with a big $10 million guarantee, quite a payout for a $210 tournament. Players will find numerous starting flights to get in the action.

Those making it to Day 2 on Aug. 22 earn the opportunity to win bounty prizes with each bounty claimed. Each time a participant is eliminated during the second or subsequent days, that player delivering the knockout receives a random mystery bounty.

The prizes are paid directly into each player’s wallet and are separate from any other prizes won.

As for the million-dollar prize, every player eliminating another opponent has the same chance to win. All prizes are randomly determined and have the same likelihood of being awarded to the first player knocking out an opponent on Day 2 as the player winning the event.

The site is also running satellites for players looking to get in the event at a bargain price. Those include $1 Step Satellites, where players can advance to other qualifiers for a single buck. Direct satellites also start at just $8.

Along with the chance to win some major mystery bonuses, the winner also scores a WSOP gold bracelet

More WSOP Online details

Beyond the $210 Mystery Bounty, poker players will find numerous other events to check out. That includes 33 bracelet events with buy-ins ranging from $100 to $10,000.

The $5,000 World Championship, also known as the WSOP Online Main Event, is the signature tournament on the schedule. This event features a $20 million guarantee with numerous Day 1 stages and Day 2 set for Sept. 26.

Players will also find a packed schedule of side events throughout the series as well as plenty of satellite action. Here’s a look at the bracelet and non-bracelet schedules.

Bracelet Hunting Action Cranks Back Up With WSOP Online at GGPoker, WSOP.com

GGPoker is launching the WSOP Online in Ontario, Canada, and also partnering with Dusk Till Dawn for the UK Poker Championships.

Less than a month after events wrapped up at the World Series of Poker, the bracelet action returns for online poker players at GGPoker and WSOP.com.

The action runs at WSOP.com in the United States  and GGPoker for all international territories. This marks the third year of WSOP Online, which features plenty of side events at GG along with gold bracelet tournaments. The action runs at GGPoker from Aug. 14 – Sept. 27 and at WSOP.com from Sept. 10 – Oct. 18.

At GG, the $5,000 World Championship, also known as the WSOP Online Main Event, highlights the series. The championship event comes with a $20 million guarantee and features numerous Day 1 stages with Day 2 playing out Sept. 26.

“No one wanted to see this year’s WSOP come to an end,” WSOP Senior Vice President and executive director Ty Stewart said in a news release.

“However, in many ways, the return of WSOP Online is even more exciting. Together with GGPoker, we have a clear vision to make this festival annually the biggest deal in online poker so that the WSOP offers players the marquee event in both live and online poker each year.”

What to expect from WSOP Online at GGPoker

GGPoker will offer 33 bracelet events with buy-ins ranging from $100 to $10,000. The $500 Housewarming helps kick off the series on Aug. 15 with $2 million guaranteed. A Ukraine war charity event, the $1,111 Every 1 For War Relief, also helps get the action started on Aug. 14.

Another highlight is the $210 Million Dollar Mystery Bounty, featuring multiple starting flights and a  $10 million guarantee. As the name implies, players will find a $1 million top bounty prize with the second day beginning Aug. 22.

The $1,500 Millionaire Maker offers players $5 million guaranteed and $1 million for the winner. The final day of action is set for Aug. 29. Here’s a look at some other events that stand out on the schedule:

  • $10,000 Heads-up Championship – Aug. 27 (capped at 128 players)
  • $10,000 Super MILLION$ High Roller, $5 million guaranteed – Aug. 28
  • $100 FLIP & Go, $1 million guaranteed – Sept. 5 (Go Stage)
  • $1,050 GGMasters High Roller Freezeout, $2 million guaranteed – Sept. 11
  • $400 Colossus, $3 million guaranteed – Sept. 19 (final day)

“Online bracelets are just as prestigious as live tournament bracelets,” GGPoker ambassador and six-time bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu said. “I’m glad that we’re creating a new tradition to celebrate the online game, and I’m striving to add my first WSOP Online bracelet to my collection.”

GG plans numerous online satellites for all WSOP Online international bracelet events. This allows players of all bankrolls to win a tournament seat. Here’s a look at the entire bracelet schedule.

Real names and streaming the action

The WSOP Online tries to mimic the feel of the live series. That will include the use of real names at official bracelet final tables. Players will also not be allowed to make deals at the final table.

Poker fans around the world can check out some of the action as well. GG will stream the Million Dollar Mystery Bounty final table on Aug. 27. GG ambassador Jeff Gross and Ali Nejad will call the action in that event along with the Main Event on Sept. 27.

Leaderboard opportunities

Beyond the deep tournament schedule, players have even more opportunities to win with GG’s daily leaderboard. The site is awarding $22,000 in gift boxes full of tournament tickets each day.

The promotion awards 1,500 players daily. Here’s a look at the total in the gift boxes that players can win:

  • 1st to 100th – $100
  • 101st to 440th – $20
  • 441st to 1,500th – $5

WSOP.com online bracelet action

Players in the US also have a chance to score an online bracelet. WSOP.com is available to players in the following states:

The 2020 and 2021 versions of WSOP Online created prize pools of more than $25 million in the combined markets of Nevada or New Jersey. Players will find 33 bracelet events in Nevada/New Jersey.

This year’s festivities also expand to Michigan and Pennsylvania for the first time. Those ringed-in markets will feature a total of bracelet tournaments each during the series.

Buy-ins range from $365 to $10,000 with the $1,000 Online Championship set for Oct. 16. Another nice event is the $500 Monster Stack, running in all markets on Sept. 11.

The $500 Big 500 event is also scheduled in all markets on Oct. 9. Here’s a look at some other highlights.

  • $400 PLOSSUS Six-Max – Sept. 24 (NV/NJ only)
  • $365 NLHE Turbo Deepstack – Sept. 29 (NV/NJ only)
  • $777 Lucky 7’s – Oct. 2 (NV/NJ, PA, MI)
  • $1,500 No Limit Hold’em – Tuesday, October 4 (NV/NJ only)
  • $10,000 Super High Roller with Single Re-entry – Oct. 18 (NV/NJ only)

The series is scheduled “adjacent to a series of notable live tournaments in Las Vegas this fall,” the WSOP notes. That includes series at Venetian, Aria, and the World Poker Tour’s Five Diamond World Poker Classic at Wynn.

A WSOP Circuit event is also scheduled in October at Harvey’s Lake Tahoe. More Las Vegas tournament action may be in the works as well. This means more players have the opportunity to play in the WSOP Online while in Nevada.

Daily satellites for all WSOP Online 2022 bracelet events will be available on WSOP.com. Here’s a look at the complete schedule.

Triton Names Players for $200K Coin Rivet; GGPoker Qualifiers for Mediterranean Poker Party

Triton Poker organizers recently announced some of the players for the upcoming $200,000 buy-in Coin Rivet Invitational.

Tournament organizers recently announced some of the players for the upcoming Coin Rivet Invitational, a major tournament with a mixture of high-stakes poker pros and recreational players.

A few big names expected to play in the event include recent World Series of Poker Main Event winner Espen Jorstad and poker legend Phil Ivey. The $200,000 No Limit Hold’em single re-entry event is part of the Luxon Pay Mediterranean Poker Party and the Triton Poker Series Cyprus.

The Coin Rivet runs Sept. 10-12 at the Merit Royal Diamond in North Cyprus, with the overall Triton Poker festival running  from Sept. 5-19.

“Every player that plays a Triton Poker Series event is a VIP and we are looking forward to this new event in the schedule and returning to Merit Resorts for the opening of their brand new poker room and hotel,” Triton CEO Andy Wong said in a news release. “All the action will be live streamed in true Triton Series style by our great team.”

How does the $200K invitational work?

Those tuning in to check out the Coin Rivet on Triton YouTube channel will find a different kind of tournament, teaming rec players with pros. On Day 1, poker pros and recreational players are separated before the fields are merged on Day 2.

While pairs aren’t playing as teams, each pro needs a rec player to also take part. The event is capped at 32 recreational and 32 professionals. Triton officials have already released some names who will join the action.

Jorstad will partner with Rob Yong and Paul Phua is linked with Phil Ivey. Las Vegas casino executive and Poker Hall of Famer Bobby Baldwin will also join the action. The 1978 WSOP Main Event winner will partner with Ben Lamb, 2011 WSOP Player of the Year.

UK businessman Paul Newey is also among the confirmations, playing with reigning Irish Open champion Steve O’Dwyer.

“The pairings of the recreational players with the professionals is generating interest in the poker community and the early confirmations for the event look encouraging – people are interested in who pairs up and which pairing might be considered the favorites to win,” Luxon Pay business development director Neil Barrett said.

A few more pairings for the event include:

  • Wai Kin Yong and poker pro  Linus Loeliger
  • Elton Tsang and poker pro  Mustapha Kanit
  • Sosia Jiang and GGPoker ambassador Jason Koon
  • Zhenglong Zhou and high stakes regular Stephen Chidwick
  • Phachara Wongwichit and online poker star Mikita Badziakouski

Other Triton Cyprus highlights & qualifying online

Beyond the Coin Rivet Invitational, players will find numerous other major tournaments. That includes $100,000 main events in NLHE and Short Deck. The full schedule includes other Hold’em, Short Deck, and Pot Limit Omaha tournaments as well, with buy-ins beginning at $25,000.

Beyond the well-heeled pros in the action, Triton’s GGPoker partnership is allowing online players a shot at entering the field. Players can attempt to qualify for as little as $25.

Having more online qualifiers may bring even more to the series and offers a chance to expand prize pools.

More on tap with Mediterranean Poker Party

The Mediterranean Poker Party also features events for players who may not be high rollers. Organizers also recently added two more events.

That includes a $550 tournament with a $250,000 guarantee running Aug. 29 – Sept. 1. The $5,000 Beasts of Poker PLO event gets rolling Aug. 24 with another $10,000 PLO tournament on Aug. 25.

The main schedule gets underway with the $1,100 MPP Open with $1 million guaranteed, running Aug. 19-23. Next up is the MPP Warm Up, a $2,200 event with $2 million guaranteed and scheduled for Aug. 25-29.

The $5,300 Main Event runs Aug 29 – Sept. 3 with $5 million guaranteed. There are also a number of other series partners with events on the schedule including

  • Eurasian Poker Tour
  • Imperium Italian live poker brands La Notte Degli Assi and La Casa Delle Carte

Poker Podium: A Look at Summer Online, Live Winners on the International Poker Scene

Poker Podium takes a look at some of the winners over the summer at the major international online poker platforms.

The World Series of Poker came to a close this month in Las Vegas, and a Main Event champion was crowned with Norway’s Espen Jorstad capturing a gold bracelet and $10 million top prize.

The humble online poker pro also said he also won between $10,000 and $15,000 online during the series. But there were plenty of other notable online poker winners in June and July. Poker Podium takes a look at some recent international online and live winners who scored big over the summer.

GGPoker

The $10,300 Super MILLION$ recently crowned a champion on July 19. Brazilian Pablo Silva took the title and $260,765 after starting the final table as chip leader.

In a big pot at three-handed play against fellow countryman Rodrigo Sirichuk, Silva shoved from the small blind with King-Queen and Sirichuk called off his 24 big blind stack with AQ. The flop missed and Sirichuk picked up a flush draw on the turn to add to his over cards.

He was an 88.6% favorite, but Silva caught lightning when a non-club king fell on the river. That sent Sirichuk home in third with $159,040.

Canada’s Nick Maimone couldn’t overcome a 3-1 chip advantage for Silver to finish in second place for $203,647. The final hand saw Maimone call off 2.2 million after his $240,000 min-raise and shove by Silva. Maimone couldn’t hit his K-10 or flush versus Silva’s 7-7 on a spade flush flop.

Big online micro tournaments continued on GGPoker for a two-week run through July 3. To close out June, German “Johaenski” turned his $5 entry into a $30,202 score in a Mini Global MILLION$ event as part of the microMILLION$ series.

The three-handed deal with Russian “YourOwner” ($28,194) and Ukraine’s “Myskonvat” ($23,554) saw them best a monster-sized field of 88,700 entries.

PartyPoker

The partypoker Grand Prix UK Main Event recently concluded at PartyPoker. Beihao Wang topped a field of 1,507 to reel in £25,000 of the £146,179 prize pool. His $29,588 online score was by far the biggest of his poker career.

Lukas Boublel qualified for the partypoker MILLIONS Europe Main Event at partypoker for just $0.01. He made his way to beautiful Barcelona, Spain, and advanced to Day 2 with 67 players from the field of 450 on June 12. Boublel busted out in 18th place for €11,000 after his big slick ran into pocket Aces.

Ireland’s Steve O’Dwyer, who has $31 million in live tournament earnings, was the slight chip leader ahead of Hungary’s Gergely Bartos to start the final table.

O’Dwyer trailed Luuk Gieles by 142 million to 304 million chips going into heads-up action. But O’Dwyer came back and won €250,000 ($267,772) to capture his first victory on Spanish soil. Bartos finished third.

O’Dwyer’s win comes just days after taking runner-up in the €10,300 High Roller event in which Teun Mulder triumphed.

PartyPoker ambassador and streamer Jeff “MaximusBlack” Johnston finished in 25th in the MILLIONS Europe Main Event for €11,000 ($9,104)

Inspired by the energy and excitement of Formula 1, the McLaren F1 Team Turbo Series started July 22. The series continues through Aug. 8 with more than $2.5 million in guaranteed cash prizes.

The aptly-named “HyperTurbo123” came out on top of 247 entries in Event 12-H Eight-Max PKO. His $109 investment turned into a $5,544 payday with $3,024 from bounties after he defeated  “DuvelTripelHop” heads-up.

The $215 Turbo Series Main Event will be part of the August update. Partypoker also recently released more events planned for 2022. Here’s a look at the schedule.

888poker

The Festival Online recently came to a close at 888Poker. The series featured 21 online events from July 10 – Aug. 1 with combined guaranteed prize pools of $750,000.

In total, The Festival catered to a combined 6,942 entrants and awarded $820,820 in prize money. The $109 Opening Event had one of the five highest payouts of the series. The 1,000-entry field saw 796 players and 204 rebuys with a $100,000 prize pool.

The final table trio of Brazilian players missed heads up play but cashed in nicely on their entry fee.

  • “RMolinar17” (fifth for $4,550)
  • “Entaotoma” (fourth for $6,150)
  • “DantonGomes” (third for $8,300)

In the end, a heads-up deal was made between Sweden’s “Angelegot” ($14,692) and UK’s “DarioPourzan” ($12,077).

The $109 Texas Progressive KO was the largest draw with 1,072 entries. “DarianZimmer” of Germany cashed in the top prize of $13,925.

The other tournament to also draw at least 1,000 entries was the $109 Texas 8-Max. The winner was “Iaromachikne” of Brazil, who took a 12-1 chip lead into heads-up action against Ireland’s MIKEPOSTLE. Iaromachikne won $16,223 and the runner-up finish was worth $11,831 from a field of 1,048.

The $215 Festival Online Main Event started July 31 and 813 entries created a prize pool of $162,600. A total of 673 players rebought 140 times and the top 120 finishers made the money.

The final table of nine players returned Aug. 1 with cards-up coverage streamed live on the 888pokerTV Twitch channel. After “IOwnU888” bowed out in third for $14,195, the title came down to a pair of players from South America.

Ultimately, Argentina’s “Pbusto14” defeated Brazil’s “vpedote” in heads-up play to win the tournament for $26,553.

PokerStars

The United Kingdom and Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT) festival in Nottingham drew some of the best players in Europe. More than £1 million in prize money was guaranteed for the week-long festival that concluded July 31.

Local cash game pro Adam Maxwell outlasted a field of 582 entries (including 182 re-entries) to win the  £1,100 UKIPT Nottingham Main Event. Maxwell cashed in for £98,150 after a heads-up deal. Eventual runner-up Jonathan McCann took home £74,500 from the £564,540 total prize pool.

“It feels very good – it’s not quite sunk in yet,” Maxwell said, before reflecting on the heads-up duel. “It was a tough battle but I feel like the cards went my way.”

The top five finishers were from the UK with David Ledden (£47,460), Michael Howard (£36,500), and Daniel Gormley (£28,080) rounding out the top five spots ahead of German Fabio Sperling (£21,600) in sixth place.

Stars High Roller action

Following the main event, the two day £2,200 High Roller for £51,730 drew 95 players and Alex Goulder finished in third place (worth £23,840) after taking the chip lead into Day 2 with 21 players remaining. Tan Luan Le finished second for £33,000, while Gary Miller took the trophy and £51,730 first prize.

Kathleen Padovani won the two day  £340 UKIPT Cup to best a field of 413 players. With a prize pool of £120,183, Day 2 started with 62 players.

When nine remained for the final table, it looked like Vincenzo Lupoli was on his way to victory after he busted four consecutive players to get heads up against Padovani with a better than 3-1 chip lead.

As Padovani fought back to even and then took the chip lead, she repeatedly offered a deal to Lupoli, which he declined. Padovani flopped trip 9s on the final hand to claim victory and score her biggest-ever live cash for £23,513.

Cheating has been quite a topic of conversation in recent months and GGPoker recently announced its new Poker Integrity Council (PIC) to help combat unethical play. The company hopes to curb collusion, multi-accounting, use of real-time assistance (RTA), and other cheating methods.

The council will now work to decide if a player cheated at the online poker site and what punishment is warranted. GG ambassador Jason Koon is heading up the council and sees it as a step in the right direction. He recently spoke with PokerScout about GG’s plans.

“For too long cheaters have been able to prosper in poker, as they were well aware that any consequences they faced would be limited to a single site or operator,” he says.

“With PIC, not only do we have a robust approach for catching cheaters backed by the collective knowledge of our voting members, but thanks to the participation of and strong support from our allies, for the first time we will be able to keep the worst cheaters out of poker entirely. This project means a lot to me and I’m truly honored to be a part of it.”

How does GGPoker’s integrity council work?

Adding to its growing stable of talented ambassadors, GGPoker signed high stakes pro Jason Koon this week to its player ranks.

Along with Koon, other members of the PIC include well-known pros Andrew Lichtenberger, Fedor Holz, Seth Davies, and Nick Petrangelo. The group will investigate suspicious behavior flagged at GG. The council’s process includes:

  • Detection – The company flags suspicious behavior such as collusion, bot play, use of RTA, or ghosting for review. RTA is a type of software offering players game theory optimal (GTO) guidance as they play a hand in real time. Most online poker operators ban this type of aide.
  • Review – Members review relevant hand histories, with the player remaining anonymous.
  • Ruling – Council members vote on any disciplinary action.

Live poker partners

GGPoker is also partnering with the World Series of Poker, World Poker Tour, Triton Poker, Poker After Dark, King’s Casino, and the Asian Poker Tour. Koon says the efforts to curb cheating can carry over to the live arena.

“If the PIC determines that players with repeated occurrences of cheating at live events is grounds for investigation, they may be subject to review/investigation,” he says.

Some players may be wondering if there will be any kind of appeals process beyond the council. Koon says that’s not in the plans because of the thoroughness involved with and needed in the process.

“While there will not be any formal process for players to appeal PIC’s decisions,”he says, “actions will only be taken against players when the council is absolutely certain that foul play has occurred.”

Rooting out unethical behavior

This is the industry’s first major effort to find and punish those believed to be cheating. Some major names like Bryn Kenney and Ali Imsirovic were accused of cheating in recent months.

Koon can’t comment on if the council will review any of these specific players. He doesn’t rule it out however.

“Unfortunately, we are unable to comment on any specific individuals,” he says. “However, our first council meeting is scheduled for Aug. 1, and the main topic of discussion will be to review and deliberate on the historically most egregious cheaters.”

GG won’t necessarily make banned players known to the public. However, GG will share names of those the council rules against with live tours and operators teaming up with the company in the anti-cheating effort.

“Our goal with PIC is to keep the poker streets clean,” Koon says. “We are not in the business of ‘outing’ or publicly shaming players. The list of blacklisted players will only be shared on a need-to-know basis, for example with our allies.”

Koo also notes that the company is hoping other online poker operators join in with the campaign as well.

“We want PIC to be a truly industry-wide initiative,” he says, “and we are all for other online operators to get on board.”

Court’s in Session: GGPoker Unveils Poker Integrity Council to Clean Up Game; Jason Koon Leads Effort

GGPoker recently launched the Poker Integrity Council to spearhead an industry-wide effort to help protect the integrity of the game.

GGPoker recently launched the Poker Integrity Council (PIC) to spearhead an industry-wide effort to help protect the integrity of the game.

The company made the announcement on July 5 at the World Series of Poker and hopes to help investigate allegations of cheating, conducting fair reviews, and enforcing sanctions for the most egregious cheaters.

The move comes after some recent cheating allegations involving some of the biggest names in poker. That included allegations of collusion, multi-accounting, real-time assistance (RTA), and other improprieties that are against most online poker operators’ terms of service.

GG ambassador Jason Koon is one of those on the council and looks forward to working with others toward bettering the game.

“I joined GGPoker with an important objective in mind, to help the GGPoker team make their poker games more secure and fair than ever,” Koon said in a news release.

“It’s an honor to launch the Poker Integrity Council and take another massive step in ensuring online poker is safe for all players. Our long list of allies also means that the wider community will be better protected via the industry-wide blacklist; we’re sending a united message that there’s no place in this game for cheaters.”

Steps in the GGPoker integrity review process

The move by GG comes after significant debate in the industry regarding security efforts. Some have favored an outright blacklist of cheaters. Others believe it’s simply up to operators themselves to police rogue players.

GG’s Poker Integrity Council is composed of some well-known players and includes:

  • Jason Koon
  • Andrew “LuckyChewy” Lichtenberger
  • Fedor Holz
  • Seth Davies – Run It Once
  • Nick Petrangelo – Upswing Poker

The group will independently investigate suspicious behavior flagged at the site’s online tables, according to GG. The company has put in place several steps involving cases the council reviews. That includes:

  • Detection – Suspicious behavior such as collusion, bot play, use of RTA, or ghosting is flagged for review. RTA is a type of software offering players game theory optimal (GTO) guidance as they play a hand in real time. This type of aide is banned by most online poker operators.
  • Review – Relevant hand histories, with the player remaining anonymous, are reviewed by Koon and PIC members.
  • Ruling – Council members vote on whether or not disciplinary action is required.

Disciplinary actions

The PIC will consider several options if disciplinary action is warranted. This can include a warning, account suspension, or a permanent GGPoker ban. This could also include a permanent ban combined with confiscation of funds.

In addition, in the most serious cases, a decision can be made to add the player to an industry blacklist. Beyond these, the company has also partnered with other poker operators to punish those who are found to have been cheating. Those companies include:

  • World Series of Poker
  • World Poker Tour
  • Triton Poker
  • Poker After Dark
  • King’s Casino
  • Asian Poker Tour

These groups will then bar blacklisted players from their events. With the inception of the council, GG can review the status of players previously blacklisted from the online poker room upon their request. In certain circumstances GG may remove or reduce the bans currently enforced.

As of now, GG hasn’t announced a player appeals process. Also, GG hasn’t released details on the other groups’ efforts at identifying possible cheating.

It’s unknown if other online operators will be be part of the effort with a similar process. GGPoker will announce more partners in the coming weeks.
