ON AIR: PokerStars Adds to Stadium Series with YouTuber Partnerships; New Throwables

PokerStars brings YouTub fun to the Stadium Series.

The Coronavirus pandemic has not only brought an explosion in online poker but also the elevation of streaming coverage. PokerStars has now added even more punch to the Stadium Series after partnering with a lineup of well-known content creators.

The United Kingdom-based Sidemen YouTube collective stream on a multi-channel network. The group is creating a series of videos on the YouTube channels as well as the PokerStars Twitch channel.

Sidemen battle it out on PokerStars

As part of the promotion, the Sidemen will be playing poker together and entertaining viewers.

Crew members are also competing to see who can do the best in the Stadium Series. The group reaches millions of YouTube viewers and include:

JJ “KSI” Olatunji
Simon “Miniminter” Minter
Josh “Zerkaa” Bradley
Tobi “Tobjizzle” Brown
Ethan “Behzinga” Payne
Callum “Calfreezy” Airey

The Sidemen will also battle PokerStars ambassadors Ben “Spraggy” Spragg, Lex Veldhuis, and Fintan Hand. The whole group will play in an eight-person stream on the PokerStars Twitch channel.

Additionally, British YouTube podcaster Brian “True Geordie” Davis will also join in the events. Davis also participated in the Stars Call for Action charity tournament for COVID-19 relief.

When the Sunday Freezeout Grand Finals, Davis will be playing on his YouTube channel. UK poker pro Charlie Carrel will be coaching him throughout the event.

Twitch streaming playing a major role

The Stadium Series runs through Aug. 2 with more than $50 million guaranteed. PokerStars is also giving away more than $2 million worth of events tickets throughout the series.

The series offers something for every bankroll with buy-ins ranging from $5.50 to $10,300. In addition to the YouTubers’ involvement, plenty of action will be streamed on Twitch.

The later stages of most Stadium Series tournaments will be streamed with James Hartigan and Joe Stapleton providing commentary.

Players accustomed to watching televised poker will enjoy some added enhancements to the stream. The Stadium Series will be the first PokerStars online series to feature cards-up coverage. Viewers can see players’ hole cards on a short delay.

PokerStars drops another ‘unique’ Throwable

After introducing Throwables to the platform in May, PokerStars has been adding to the collection. Players can now throw virtual “poo” at their opponents with the launch of the latest Throwable.

The scatological animation is unlocked by losing a hand holding pocket Aces or Kings. The feature is only available for a limited time and comes with its own TP.

Players can also add to their Throwables collection as well with exclusive Stadium Series animations. These include the ability to throw a gold bar at an opponent.

Unlock these Throwables by finishing in the money, making a final table, or winning a tournament in the Stadium Series.

WORLDWIDE SERIES OF POKER: GGPoker Releases WSOP Online Schedule With $25M Main Event

After the World Series of Poker announced a total of 85 online bracelet events in June, players got an idea of what to expect internationally from GGPoker. On Friday, the fast-growing operator released details of the schedule’s 54 bracelet events.

The series runs July 19 through Sept. 6 and is highlighted by the $5,000 Main Event. That boasts a record-breaking $25 million guarantee the biggest online poker tournament in history.

Players will find multiple Day 1 starting flights beginning on Aug. 16. Day 2 of the Main Event kicks off on Aug. 30.

“We knew GGPoker would go big on the WSOP Online Series, but this is ridiculous,” WSOP executive director Ty Stewart said in a news release. “The single biggest guarantee in the history of online poker is exactly what this once-in-a-lifetime event deserves.”

A look at the GG Poker WSOP Online schedule

The WSOP Online begins July 1 at WSOP.com, with 31 bracelets awarded each day throughout the month. Those events will be available for players in Nevada and New Jersey.

Series organizers hoped to offer an online bracelet schedule after the traditional summer WSOP was postponed to the fall. On July 19, GGPoker is added to the mix for international players.

The series is the first time players outside the US can win a bracelet online. Many players, including well-known players like Daniel Negreanu and Phil Hellmuth, have plans to play events on both sites.

Beyond the Main Event, GG players can expect a robust schedule. Buy-ins range from $50 to $25,000. The Big 50 will award a bracelet in an event featuring a buy-in of only fifty bucks.

Players will also find popular events like the Colossus, Millionaire Maker, and Poker Players Championship. Some highlights include:

WSOP Event #1: $100 The Opener – July 19 (Day 2), $2 million guarantee
WSOP Event #2: $1,111 Every 1 for COVID Relief – July 19 ($111 from each entry goes to the Caesars Cares fund)
WSOP Event #10: $400 COLOSSUS – July 26 (Day 2), $3 million guarantee
WSOP Event #17: $1,500 MILLIONAIRE MAKER – Aug. 2 (Day 2), $1 million first prize guarantee
WSOP Event #25: $10,000 Heads Up NLHE Championship – Aug. 9 (limited to 128 players)

Few guarantees, but plenty of big events

GGPoker players have become accustomed to massive guarantees. While the Main Event features a huge payout, only 12 events feature a guarantee.

“We wanted to keep to the format of the live WSOP as much as possible, where the glory of winning the WSOP bracelet was the real highlight,” GG spokesman Paul Burke told PokerScout. “They don’t put guarantees on the events, so barring some of the real standout events, neither are we.”

Players with lower bankrolls and looking to win their way into a bracelet event will have plenty of opportunities. GGPoker will run a series of micro and low-stakes qualifying events leading up to the series.

The site will also hold standard satellite tournaments beginning July 1.

“This reminds me of poker’s boom years,” said Negreanu, a GGPoker ambassador. “Anyone who has dreamed of winning a real WSOP bracelet can now do so across the globe. There’s no feeling like winning a WSOP bracelet, and GGPoker is opening that opportunity to the masses.”

Players will find several poker variations including Pot Limit Omaha and Short Deck. Organizers have also added a few other unique elements as well.

The Asia Championship will be held on Aug. 9 for players in that part of the world. There will also be four People’s Choice events from Sept. 1-5.

A $1,050 Beat the Pros Bounty is also planned for Sept. 5. Unlike the recent WSOP Online Circuit Super Series, however, there won’t be non-bracelet side events.

Real names at the table please

Along with the move to offering international WSOP bracelets, GG is adding another interesting element to the series. Players who make a final table will be required to play using their real names.

This is something new to the industry. Players will know who they’re up against and allows for better media coverage as well. It also allows final tables to mimic live WSOP final tables.

Viewers on the site’s Twitch stream, GGPoker.TV, and PokerCentral will be able to follow their favorite players. The real names of all players who earn cash prizes will also be made available.

“The ability to compete for WSOP bracelets – the ultimate prize in poker – from home is so amazing,” GGPoker ambassador Fedor Holz said. “The big events will be full of players from all over the world: Europe, Canada, South America, and everywhere else. The WSOP action will be scorching hot this summer.”

PokerStars Summer Series Scorches Guarantee with Stadium Series on Deck with $50M

The soaring online poker industry considers to crush estimates. Operators around the world are reporting massive events and PokerStars is the latest.

The site’s Summer Series ran from June 7-21 and generated a scorching $34 million prize pool. That easily topped the $25 million guarantee.

As the industry continues to explode, even more events are on the horizon with major tournament poker at a standstill.

PokerStars dives in the deep end of the pool

The Summer Series offers yet another glimpse into how many players are getting online. The festival attracted 931,000 entries across 167 events.

British pro Sam Grafton took down the $530 Main Event for more than $200,000.

“It’s an exhilarating feeling to get first in such a big tournament,” he told the Poker in the Ears podcast afterward. “I like to win in poker. It’s still a very unique and special feeling. Obviously, financially it’s very important when you’re playing so high and playing so many events.”

Germany’s Fedor Holz added yet another to his title as well. He took down the $5,200 High Roller for $156,000.

Stadium Series is next up for PokerStars

The action isn’t slowing down yet. The Stadium Series kicks off this weekend, running from July 5 to Aug. 2. The series brings yet another massive guarantee – this time $50 million.

That includes plenty of free cash. The site is awarding more than $2 million in tournament tickets. The series brings a bit of sporting dynamics to the virtual poker felt.

Players can compete in three-tiered “Heat” tournaments throughout the week. They can then qualify for weekly Sunday Finals tournament in each tier.

Buy-ins and guarantees of the finals increase weekly until the Grand Final on Aug. 2. That event features a $5,200 buy-in and $5 million guarantee.

Fast track tickets will also award five seats to the $5,200 Stadium Series Grand Final every day.

Poker fans will find plenty of coverage on PokerStars Twitch stream beginning July 13. James Hartigan, Joe Stapleton, and Grafton will all be providing commentary.

This will also be the first PokerStars online series featuring cards-up coverage. Twitch viewers will find $250,000 worth of Stadium Series tickets given away.

PokerStars casts new fishing lure Throwable

Throwables are one of the social-gaming aspects PokerStars recently added to its platform. These are virtual objects that can be tossed at an opponent to add some more fun to the action.

Players can already make use of fireworks, tissues, and alarm clocks.

PokerStars has now added a fishing lure feature. This Throwable is unlocked by knocking out three players from a tournament or busting three players in a cash game. Here’s a look at how the new feature works.

BIG SHOW: PokerStars Packs Stadium Series – $50M Guaranteed, $2M in Free Tickets

The new PokerStars Stadium Series features a sporty twist.

Another week, another major online poker series. That’s the trend during the Coronavirus pandemic and PokerStars announced the launch of its new Stadium Series on Monday.

The series features 102 events, three different buy-in levels, and daily opportunities to get in the action for free. The Stadium Series runs July 5 to Aug. 2 with $50 million guaranteed.

As the name implies, PokerStars has given the series a bit of a sporting twist. Players can compete in various events with a shot at even bigger tournaments, depending on their results.

Another major highlight? PokerStars is awarding more than $2 million worth of Stadium Series tickets.

What to expect from PokerStars Stadium Series

Unlike traditional poker festivals, the Stadium Series functions somewhat like a track and field competition or other type of race. Players can choose to take part in a “Heat tournament” for each buy-in tier (Low, Medium, or High) every day of the week for four weeks.

Each week will conclude with a Sunday Final for each tier. The Week 4 High Sunday final becomes the Grand Final main event.

As the series progresses, buy-ins and guarantees also increase week by week. Sunday Final tickets are also added to daily heats, and Grand Final tickets added to Sunday Finals.

Players can also “Fast Track” to the Grand Final via a special promotion. Fast Track tickets will be given away for free though Stars Rewards Spin and Go’s and in daily freerolls.

All events are in No Limit Hold’em with buy-ins starting at only $5.50.

Following the action and cards-up streaming coverage on Twitch Poker

Along with plenty of competition, players can also expect plenty of Twitch coverage of the Stadium Series. Beginning July 13, most tournaments will be streamed with commentary by James Hartigan and Joe Stapleton.

The series will be the first PokerStars stream featuring cards-up coverage, allowing viewers to see hole cards. The company has made efforts to beef up its Twitch offerings and promotions. Stadium Series becomes the latest in those efforts.

“We wanted to give our players something they all could enjoy and take part in, and to create stories and opportunities by giving away millions in free seats and tickets,” said Severin Rasset, PokerStars managing director and commercial officer for poker, product and innovation.

“It’s a unique summer and we know many of our players like ourselves miss live poker. HIGH-TECH TUNEUP: PokerStars Overhauls Mobile App, Ramps Up Home Game Features

PokerStars announced improvements to its mobile app and Home Games.

The online poker world continues to thrive in the wake of the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic. Operators continue to ramp up tournament series and product offerings.

PokerStars got in the act this week with the release of its new and improved mobile gaming app. The mobile offering is now available on iOS and company officials promise a “next generation” experience.

The additions come as the company has also made major improvements to its “Home Games” feature.

Overall, players will find a simplified and more convenient experience. Bold graphics and color coding various features add significantly to the platform.

The company plans to roll out the new app even further and encourages player feedback. PokerStars notes it has even incorporated an easy feedback feature in the app’s new design.

“PokerStars’ focus remains on developing an app that is completely user-focused so players can easily find the games and products they want to play and have a smoother, richer and more enjoyable gaming experience,” the site noted in a news release.

The updates combine features used in the app’s earlier launch in the United Kingdom, Denmark, and Pennsylvania in the US. Player feedback also played a major role, the company notes.

The new mobile app is available everywhere on the .COM site, excluding Brazil. Android users will have to wait a bit. The new app isn’t yet available on that platform, but is expected to be later in the year.

PokerStars also unveils major updates to Home Games feature

With so many players at home during the pandemic, many players have shifted their home games online. PokerStars own “Home Games” feature has been a popular way for friends hoping to still battle it out at the tables.

The site has now added to that experience with some updates to the feature this week. Those will soon even include playing with friends on mobile devices.

The new Home Games also now hosts games and formats found throughout the PokerStars platform. Those include:

Five- and Six-Card Omaha
6+ Hold’em
Showtime Hold’em
Split Hold’em

Swap Hold’em

These games are expected to be added to Home Games cash games within the coming week as well.

PokerStars has also refined the process of creating games and tournaments. Some settings have been grouped to make functionality simpler for Home Game club managers.

Late registration can also now offer a window of up to 90 minutes.

“The changes build on PokerStars’ goal to enable players to better connect with friends, provide them with good value entertainment and a great experience overall,” the company noted in announcing the changes.

Initial Home Games updates are being rolled out for desktop and Android users (self-hosted currently, Google Play to follow shortly). These changes are expected to be available on iOS devices soon.

The updates were part of a planned development strategy, which was recently accelerated in response to player feedback. Playing with friends online remains popular and now players can get in the game even easier.

Partypoker Hosts Poker Masters PLO Series; Cash Leaderboards Now Offer Daily Payouts

Partypoker again partnering with Poker Central for the Poker Masters Online PLO Series.The series runs June 21-29 with more than $10 million in guarantees.

The action at partypoker doesn’t seem to slow down and the site announced three tournament series just last week. The site is once again partnering with Poker Central/PokeGO for the new Poker Masters Online (PMO) Pot Limit Omaha Series.

The series runs June 21-29 and features 29 two-day events with buy-ins ranging from $530 to $51,000. That includes more than $10 million in guarantees.

“Partnering with partypoker for our recent online tournaments like Poker Masters Online and the Super High Roller Bowl has proven to be a great success,” Poker Central chief business officer of J.R. McCabe said in a news release.

What to expect from the partypoker PLO series?

Fans of this form of poker will be in heaven with a high-stakes series devoted solely to PLO. The $51,000 Main Event highlights the final two days with a $1.5 million guarantee.

A further $500,000 will be paid out in the $5,200 Mini Main Event. A few other highlights include these events:

$5,200 High Roller – $250,000 guaranteed (Event 2, June 21)
$25,500 Super High Roller – $1 million guaranteed (Event 5, June 23)
$530 High Roller Knockout Mini – $25,000 guaranteed (Event 8, June 24)
$1,050 High Roller Mini – $50,000 guaranteed (Event 13, June 27)

On top of the cash winnings, the top series performer wins the PMO Pot Limit Omaha Championship. That honor comes with a championship purple jacket and $50,000 bonus.

Big few weeks for partypoker

The new PLO series follows the Poker Masters Online tournament, also hosted on partypoker in conjunction with Poker Central. That series crushed the $16.5 million guarantee, generating a final prize pool of $35.4 million.

The new series comes after some other big announcements for partypoker. That included three series announcements just last week.

Beyond the PMO, the company also announced another pair of partnerships with the World Poker Tour. The biggest of those is the WPT World Online Championships, which run July 17 to Sept. 8 with a massive $100 million guaranteed prize pool.

The series is designed to replicate an authentic live WPT experience with several major events. The live WPT World Championship hasn’t been offered on tour since 2015 and partypoker is now reviving the event.

The series includes 12 championship tournaments divided in three categories; Micro, Mini, and Main. Winners of five of these will receive:

membership in the WPT Champions Club
championship trophies
a $15,000 entry and travel accommodations to the WPT Tournament of Champions

The company also announced the new WPT Online Poker Open for players in the US in New Jersey. The series runs June 21-28 with 12 events plus a $400 championship on June 28 with $300,000 guaranteed.

The partypoker US Network also includes BorgataPoker and BetMGM. Players can participate on any of these three sites.

The series becomes the first partypoker/WPT coordinated effort in the Garden State. The winner also adds an $11,000 package to the next WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic at Bellagio in Las Vegas ($10,400 buy-in).

$1 million Cash Games Leaderboards shift to daily payouts

Along with major tournament series announcements, partypoker also added to its Cash Games Leaderboards. The site is giving away even more money for players with the prize structure moving from weekly to daily payouts.

Beginning June 15, $36,206 will be paid out each day across 16 leaderboards. That’s more than $1 million per month available to winners.

The site works to ensure the leaderboards offer prizes to all levels of player. Eight of the leaderboards will be for NLHE games and the remaining eight will be for PLO.

This is the same format used for weekly Cash Games Leaderboards. However, an improved payment structure has been added – with more rewards to low and micro stakes players.

There are also still huge daily prizes for medium and high-stakes players as well. Up to $1,200 is up for grabs and the number receiving payouts is extended for many leaderboards.

For example, the $0.01/$0.02 Micro leaderboards pay out 75 places daily.

“We’re excited to offer cash game and fast forward players a daily leaderboard promotion, following the great success we’ve seen with our daily SPINS and Sit and Go leaderboards,” partypoker managing director Tom Waters said.

“We think this makes partypoker more fun, as players no longer have to grind for a whole week to win leaderboard prizes, and we are opening up leaderboards to a whole new range of players.”

SUMMER COOL DOWN: Forget About Re-entries in 888poker Freezeout Series

888poker's Freezeout Series runs June 21-29 with 24 events and $665,000 guaranteed.

After years of rising numbers of re-entries in recent years, there’s been a pushback from some players. Some have expressed concerns that there are too many re-entries overall. Some live tournaments and online sites have taken note.

888poker is the latest and the Freezeout Series runs June 21-29. The festival features 24 events with $665,000 in total guarantees. Satellite events kicked off on June 14 and players can qualify for events starting at just one cent.

As the name implies, players will find nothing but freezeout action in this series – one buy-in and that’s it.

Some players may long for a time when so many entries weren’t allowed. Others may just be looking for something a little different.

On June 28, players will also find two other main events. The $33 Mini Main Event features a $40,000 guarantee. The $5.50 Micro Main Event features a $10,000 guarantee.
