BIG SHOW: PokerStars Packs Stadium Series – $50M Guaranteed, $2M in Free Tickets

The new PokerStars Stadium Series features a sporty twist.

Another week, another major online poker series. That’s the trend during the Coronavirus pandemic and PokerStars announced the launch of its new Stadium Series on Monday.

The series features 102 events, three different buy-in levels, and daily opportunities to get in the action for free. The Stadium Series runs July 5 to Aug. 2 with $50 million guaranteed.

As the name implies, PokerStars has given the series a bit of a sporting twist. Players can compete in various events with a shot at even bigger tournaments, depending on their results.

Another major highlight? PokerStars is awarding more than $2 million worth of Stadium Series tickets.

What to expect from PokerStars Stadium Series

Unlike traditional poker festivals, the Stadium Series functions somewhat like a track and field competition or other type of race. Players can choose to take part in a “Heat tournament” for each buy-in tier (Low, Medium, or High) every day of the week for four weeks.

Each week will conclude with a Sunday Final for each tier. The Week 4 High Sunday final becomes the Grand Final main event.

As the series progresses, buy-ins and guarantees also increase week by week. Sunday Final tickets are also added to daily heats, and Grand Final tickets added to Sunday Finals.

Players can also “Fast Track” to the Grand Final via a special promotion. Fast Track tickets will be given away for free though Stars Rewards Spin and Go’s and in daily freerolls.

All events are in No Limit Hold’em with buy-ins starting at only $5.50.

Following the action and cards-up streaming coverage on Twitch Poker

Along with plenty of competition, players can also expect plenty of Twitch coverage of the Stadium Series. Beginning July 13, most tournaments will be streamed with commentary by James Hartigan and Joe Stapleton.

The series will be the first PokerStars stream featuring cards-up coverage, allowing viewers to see hole cards. The company has made efforts to beef up its Twitch offerings and promotions. Stadium Series becomes the latest in those efforts.

Look for the Stadium Series on the international .COM site. Southern Europe and Italy will also host their own version of the festival.

For France, Spain, and Portugal, the series guarantee is €5 million with €1 million guaranteed in the €250 Grand Final.

HIGH-TECH TUNEUP: PokerStars Overhauls Mobile App, Ramps Up Home Game Features

PokerStars announced improvements to its mobile app and Home Games.

The online poker world continues to thrive in the wake of the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic. Operators continue to ramp up tournament series and product offerings.

PokerStars got in the act this week with the release of its new and improved mobile gaming app. The mobile offering is now available on iOS and company officials promise a “next generation” experience.

The additions come as the company has also made major improvements to its “Home Games” feature.

Adding simplicity to the overall PokerStars mobile experience

A quick scan of the new app and players will find improvements – especially locating games and tournaments. Some of those improved elements include:

navigation
back-to-lobby functionality
tournament text search
dynamic filters
improved game information

Overall, players will find a simplified and more convenient experience. Bold graphics and color coding various features add significantly to the platform.

The company plans to roll out the new app even further and encourages player feedback. PokerStars notes it has even incorporated an easy feedback feature in the app’s new design.

“PokerStars’ focus remains on developing an app that is completely user-focused so players can easily find the games and products they want to play and have a smoother, richer and more enjoyable gaming experience,” the site noted in a news release.

The updates combine features used in the app’s earlier launch in the United Kingdom, Denmark, and Pennsylvania in the US. Player feedback also played a major role, the company notes.

The new mobile app is available everywhere on the .COM site, excluding Brazil. Android users will have to wait a bit. The new app isn’t yet available on that platform, but is expected to be later in the year.

PokerStars also unveils major updates to Home Games feature

With so many players at home during the pandemic, many players have shifted their home games online. PokerStars own “Home Games” feature has been a popular way for friends hoping to still battle it out at the tables.

The site has now added to that experience with some updates to the feature this week. Those will soon even include playing with friends on mobile devices.

The new Home Games also now hosts games and formats found throughout the PokerStars platform. Those include:

These games are expected to be added to Home Games cash games within the coming week as well.

PokerStars has also refined the process of creating games and tournaments. Some settings have been grouped to make functionality simpler for Home Game club managers.

Late registration can also now offer a window of up to 90 minutes.

“The changes build on PokerStars’ goal to enable players to better connect with friends, provide them with good value entertainment and a great experience overall,” the company noted in announcing the changes.

Initial Home Games updates are being rolled out for desktop and Android users (self-hosted currently, Google Play to follow shortly). These changes are expected to be available on iOS devices soon.

The updates were part of a planned development strategy, which was recently accelerated in response to player feedback. Playing with friends online remains popular and now players can get in the game even easier.

Partypoker Hosts Poker Masters PLO Series; Cash Leaderboards Now Offer Daily Payouts

Partypoker again partnering with Poker Central for the Poker Masters Online PLO Series.The series runs June 21-29 with more than $10 million in guarantees.

The action at partypoker doesn’t seem to slow down and the site announced three tournament series just last week. The site is once again partnering with Poker Central/PokeGO for the new Poker Masters Online (PMO) Pot Limit Omaha Series.

The series runs June 21-29 and features 29 two-day events with buy-ins ranging from $530 to $51,000. That includes more than $10 million in guarantees.

“Partnering with partypoker for our recent online tournaments like Poker Masters Online and the Super High Roller Bowl has proven to be a great success,” Poker Central chief business officer of J.R. McCabe said in a news release.

What to expect from the partypoker PLO series?

Fans of this form of poker will be in heaven with a high-stakes series devoted solely to PLO. The $51,000 Main Event highlights the final two days with a $1.5 million guarantee.

A further $500,000 will be paid out in the $5,200 Mini Main Event. A few other highlights include these events:

$5,200 High Roller – $250,000 guaranteed (Event 2, June 21)
$25,500 Super High Roller – $1 million guaranteed (Event 5, June 23)
$530 High Roller Knockout Mini – $25,000 guaranteed (Event 8, June 24)

On top of the cash winnings, the top series performer wins the PMO Pot Limit Omaha Championship. That honor comes with a championship purple jacket and $50,000 bonus.

Big few weeks for partypoker

The new PLO series follows the Poker Masters Online tournament, also hosted on partypoker in conjunction with Poker Central. That series crushed the $16.5 million guarantee, generating a final prize pool of $35.4 million.

The new series comes after some other big announcements for partypoker. That included three series announcements just last week.

Beyond the PMO, the company also announced another pair of partnerships with the World Poker Tour. The biggest of those is the WPT World Online Championships, which run July 17 to Sept. 8 with a massive $100 million guaranteed prize pool.

The series is designed to replicate an authentic live WPT experience with several major events. The live WPT World Championship hasn’t been offered on tour since 2015 and partypoker is now reviving the event.

The series includes 12 championship tournaments divided in three categories; Micro, Mini, and Main. Winners of five of these will receive:

membership in the WPT Champions Club
championship trophies
a $15,000 entry and travel accommodations to the WPT Tournament of Champions

The company also announced the new WPT Online Poker Open for players in the US in New Jersey. The series runs June 21-28 with 12 events plus a $400 championship on June 28 with $300,000 guaranteed.

The partypoker US Network also includes BorgataPoker and BetMGM. Players can participate on any of these three sites.

The series becomes the first partypoker/WPT coordinated effort in the Garden State. The winner also adds an $11,000 package to the next WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic at Bellagio in Las Vegas ($10,400 buy-in).

$1 million Cash Games Leaderboards shift to daily payouts

Along with major tournament series announcements, partypoker also added to its Cash Games Leaderboards. The site is giving away even more money for players with the prize structure moving from weekly to daily payouts.

Beginning June 15, $36,206 will be paid out each day across 16 leaderboards. That’s more than $1 million per month available to winners.

The site works to ensure the leaderboards offer prizes to all levels of player. Eight of the leaderboards will be for NLHE games and the remaining eight will be for PLO.

This is the same format used for weekly Cash Games Leaderboards. However, an improved payment structure has been added – with more rewards to low and micro stakes players.

There are also still huge daily prizes for medium and high-stakes players as well. Up to $1,200 is up for grabs and the number receiving payouts is extended for many leaderboards.

For example, the $0.01/$0.02 Micro leaderboards pay out 75 places daily.

“We’re excited to offer cash game and fast forward players a daily leaderboard promotion, following the great success we’ve seen with our daily SPINS and Sit and Go leaderboards,” partypoker managing director Tom Waters said.

“We think this makes partypoker more fun, as players no longer have to grind for a whole week to win leaderboard prizes, and we are opening up leaderboards to a whole new range of players.”

SUMMER COOL DOWN: Forget About Re-entries in 888poker Freezeout Series

888poker's Freezeout Series runs June 21-29 with 24 events and $665,000 guaranteed.

After years of rising numbers of re-entries in recent years, there’s been a pushback from some players. Some have expressed concerns that there are too many re-entries overall. Some live tournaments and online sites have taken note.

888poker is the latest and the Freezeout Series runs June 21-29. The festival features 24 events with $665,000 in total guarantees. Satellite events kicked off on June 14 and players can qualify for events starting at just one cent.

888poker offers plenty of freezeout fun

As the name implies, players will find nothing but freezeout action in this series – one buy-in and that’s it.

POWER PLAY: Partypoker Unveils $100 Million WPT World Online Championships

The WPT and partypoker are teaming up for the $100 million WPT World Online Championships.

After announcing the new partypoker WPT World Online Championships in mid-May, players were left wondering what would be on the schedule. That was answered in a big way on Friday.

Partypoker will be paying out its biggest prize pool ever before for one series – a guarantee of $100 million. Running from July 17 to Sept. 8, the series is designed to replicate an authentic live poker experience.

The series also revives the WPT World Championship, which was discontinued as a live event after 2015. Asher Conniff took down that event at the Borgata for $974,000. Partypoker officials are pleased to bring back the event online.

“I’m delighted that we have been able to partner with WPT to revive the WPT World Championships and bring the series online for the first time,” partypoker managing director Tom Waters said in a news release.

“We want to give the festival more of a live event feel, so the tournaments will be structured as such, including single re-entry for all NLHE events, freezeouts, limited late registration, and limited Day 1s. Due to popular demand, players will be able to see each other’s real names at the tables.”

Partypoker offers a chance at WPT championship glory

The series will include 12 championship events divided into three categories; Micro, Mini, and Main.

Winners of five of the championship events will join the World Poker Tour Champions Club and receive individual trophies. These players will also win a $15,000 entry and travel accommodations for the WPT Tournament of Champions, presented by Baccarat Crystal.

These five events will be made up of four $3,200 buy-in tournaments, each with $3 million guarantees. Four of those events include:

That includes a range of satellites throughout the series including satellites for $4.40, $22, and $109. The $109 qualifiers are for the $1,050 buy-in Sunday Final wrapping up the series.

All major disciplines of poker will be included within the championship events: 8-Max NLHE, 6-Max NLHE, Mix-Max NLHE, Knockout NLHE, PLO, PLO8, and Heads Up. There will be at least one micro championship and mini championship event for each of these.

“After the tremendous success of the first-ever WPT Online Championship, the series is back again and trust me, it’s a series you don’t want to miss,” Team partypoker’s Mike Sexton said. “There will be buy-ins for all bankrolls and the series will be massive.”

Players can use their partypoker Live Passport to enter the World Championship and receive the $300 registration fee free.

Series becomes just the latest from partypoker, World Poker Tour

The World Online Championships offer yet another major series from the two companies. In May, the tour and partypoker teamed up for the WPT Online Championships and they continue to make news.

That event featured 94 events and smashed the $30 million guarantee. The series ultimately paid out $52 million. Sweden’s Christian Jeppsson won the $3,200 main event for $6.4 million. That handily beat the $5 million guarantee.

The World Online Championships comes just two days after announcing another big event for US-based players. The new WPT Online Poker Open is for players in New Jersey and runs June 21-28.

The series features 12 events plus a $400 championship on June 28 with $300,000 guaranteed. In New Jersey, the network includes BorgataPoker and BetMGM and players can participate on any of the three sites.

With live poker still on ice because of the Coronavirus pandemic, operators including partypoker, PokerStars, GGPoker, 888poker, and WSOP.com continue to ramp up events and promotions.

That’s led to record numbers of players and prize pools. The World Online Championships have a chance to be another massive event.

POKER BOOM CONTINUES: SCOOP Produces Record-Breaking $185 Million for PokerStars

The 2020 PokerStars SCOOP paid out $185 million.

As more online poker operators announced massive turnouts, PokerStars also trumpeted its own gargantuan numbers last week. The Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) remains one of the platform’s most popular events and 2020 proved the biggest yet.

With players around the globe at home during the Coronavirus pandemic, many headed to PokerStars. This year SCOOP awarded more than $185 million, the biggest total prize pool in the history of online poker.

Record prize pool reached after PokerStars adds to series

After early SCOOP success, PokerStars bumped up the schedule with 44 additional events. The company also moved the $85 million guarantee to $135 million.

That proved to be a wise decision and produced more than 2.9 million player entries over 124 events. The schedule actually included three separate tournaments for each event: Low, Medium, and High.

All three Main Events surpassed guarantees. The $109 buy-in Low edition produced 46,238 entries for a $4.6 million prize pool. The winner, “auercan,” took home $371,750.

The $1,050 Medium buy-in Main Event awarded $6.5 million with 6,475 entries. “HayashiJoão” earned a huge $920,066 for first place.

A player named “Alexgirs” won the biggest prize of the entire series in the $10,300 Main Event High. The tournament awarded $6.1 million with 609 entries and the winner secured a nice $920,595.

The United Kingdom topped the country leaderboard with 46 wins. Brazil followed in second with 45 wins.

UK players “raidalot” and “pads1161” secured more than 90 cashes, taking home $519,276 and $258,584 respectively.

PokerStars SCOOP success stories

Beyond those main event wins, several other players produced some nice stories during the series. PokerStars ambassador Lex Veldhuis smashed his own and the Twitch Poker record after reaching 58,543 concurrent viewers during Day 3 of the High Main Event.

At one point, Veldhuis even had the most-watched channel on Twitch, topping 128,000 other streams. Other interesting notes include:

Rui “RuiNF” Ferreira was crowned Player of the Series. This comes after some massive live scores for this Portuguese player in 2019 on the European Poker Tour.
Connor “blanconegro” Drinan broke records after winning the most events in a single SCOOP series. The American won five events for a total of more than $550,000 in prize money.
PokerStars Ambassador Fintan Hand earned the biggest cash of his career. The Twitch streamer from Ireland won a $1,050 Six-Max Turbo Shootout for a $73,652 payday.

Satellite qualifiers scored big in SCOOP

With plenty of satellites throughout SCOOP, there were plenty of nice success stories. Here’s a look at a few of those:

“neGREENu” produced one of the biggest satellite scores. This player turned $11 into $37,008 after finishing in fourth place in the $109 NLHE Progressive KO event.
“alexandro156” turned a $1.45 satellite into $21,612 after placing second in a $11 NLHE Progressive KO event.
“chikitin099” earned $27,009 after qualifying for $5.50 after coming second in a $22 PLO Six-Max.

Another SCOOP may be in the books, but live poker is still not available for many. With so many players around the world still at home there’s a good chance more big series will continue.

Partypoker WPT Online Series Destroys Guarantee with $52 Million Paid Out

The partypoker WPT World Online Championships Main Events are approaching.

The World Poker Tour has postponed several live events, but there has been plenty of tour action online. Partypoker hosted the first WPT Online Series in May and paid out a gigantic $52 million.

The 94-event series smashed the original $30 million guarantee. Players competed in tour-branded events like WPT500, WPTDeepStacks, and the overall championship. All of three major events beat original guarantees.

“I am delighted with the support that we received from players for WPT Online, with accumulated prize pools far exceeding expectations,” partypoker managing director Tom Waters said in a news release. “This is testament to both the popularity and strength of the WPT brand and also the schedule that the team put together.”

Massive numbers and a WPT championship awarded

The series becomes just the latest international online poker series producing huge numbers. Every operator has been reporting massive fields and guarantees being beaten by a wide margin.

In the $3,200 WPT Online Championship, the guarantee of $5 million ballooned to $6.4 million. Sweden’s Christian Jeppsson led going into the final table and edged out Russia’s Viktor Ustimov for the title.

Jeppsson took home $923,785 and added his name to the WPT Champions Cup.

The WPTDeepStacks came with a guarantee of $3 million that swelled to $3.6 million. The United Kingdom’s Jareth East took the title and $557,658 for the biggest win of his career.

Another UK-based player also topped the $3 million guaranteed WPT500. Fabio Sperling was in front in a four-handed chop with remaining players winning between $187,289 and $281,125.

Already with a nice resumé of partypoker LIVE titles, Canada’s Sam Greenwood won a high roller tournament for $257,250. He previously won the 2017 Caribbean Poker Main Event and 2018 Grand Final Super High Roller for $1.8 million.

Other notables notch partypoker WPT titles

The WPT Online Series produced even more champions beyond the signature events. Charlie Carrel ($600,250), Elio Fox ($565,500), and Dan Smith ($555,503) all won super high roller events.

“We are thrilled and grateful for the players’ response during the inaugural series,” WPT Europe Vice President Hermance Blum said.

“We wanted WPT Online to deliver an authentic poker experience, with limited re-entries and entry days into the tournaments and the huge prize pools highlight the popularity of the structures and formats of the series. ”

Along with Ustimov, David Ivers, Alexandr Trofimov, and Niklas Astedt all won two events each. Players have another online opportunity for some WPT hardware this summer.

The WPT World Online Championships will be held July 1 to Aug. 9 with 15 championship events. The $10,300 buy-in Season XVIII WPT World Championship Online highlights the action on Aug. 1-8.
