WPT World Online Championships coming soon

The WPT and partypoker continue building on the two companies’ growing partnership. The Online Series finished up last week and the WPT World Online Championships will run July 1 to Aug. 9.

The new series features 15 championship events. The action is highlighted by the $10,300 buy-in Season XVIII WPT World Championship Online, running Aug. 1-8.

Partypoker promises some special prizes for the overall series winner. That includes a $15,000 seat into the Season XVIII WPT Tournament of Champions presented by Baccarat Crystal.

“With the live poker schedule likely to be empty over the traditionally hectic summer months, we have been working on plans for a huge online festival to provide an alternative for players that would normally migrate to Vegas,” partypoker managing director Tom Waters said.

“I’m delighted that we have been able to partner with WPT to revive the WPT World Championships and bring the series online for the first time.”

A full schedule for the WPT World Online Championships hasn’t been released yet. Here’s a look at just a couple events already released that are expected to cap the series. More will be posted as additional events are announced.

Battle it out with new ‘Club Games’ option

Partypoker recently launched its new Club Games feature, available for cash games with multiple stakes options. This allows a player to set up a game and accept and remove players, with stakes available up to $5/$10.

Club Games will be available on desktop and mobile. There is no limit to the number of clubs a player can join, and can create up to five clubs per person. The rake remains the same as a standard cash game.

The addition comes as more players asked for an option to play with friends during the Coronavirus pandemic.

“Partypoker used to offer private games and it’s been on our roadmap to bring in a new home games offering for a long time now,” partypoker managing director Tom Waters said.

“In recent months, we have been inundated with requests from players who wanted their own home games, so we decided to accelerate the rollout of our new Club Games interface. Initially, players will be able to create their own private cash games for friends to join using either a PC/Mac or mobile device, with the ability to create tournaments to follow.”

888 offers two daily $2,000 Venus Freerolls Monday through Saturday. On Sunday, a $10,000 Neptune Freeroll will be run with one happy astronaut/champion.

The final freeroll on June 7, aka the Super-Saturn Freeroll, will feature a $100,000 prize pool. Additional surprises, rewards, bonuses, and exclusive freerolls will also be on tap during the Galaxy of Freerolls.

Those looking to earn tickets in the $2,000 Venus need to complete “Space Missions.” Some of those challenges include:

  • The Tournament Voyager – Simply play tournaments with buy-ins of $3 and earn a pair of tickets.
  • Ace-King Apollo Landing – Win a hand holding Ace-King in a cash game and earn two tickets.
  • Casino and Sports Atlantis Orbiter – Place bets totalling $5 or more on any casino game or sports bet and claim but two tickets.

Those hoping to land in a $10,000 Neptune need to complete two or more Space Missions in one week. Players can complete one Space Mission per day and will need at least one more during the week.

How do you play in the $100,000 Super-Saturn Freeroll on June 7? Simply become an 888 astronaut by completing 14 or more Space Missions.

PokerStars

SCOOP may be over, but major tournaments continue

A massive SCOOP is now in the books, but players still have plenty to look forward to the on site’s multiple platforms. That includes big Sunday events and daily guarantees.

That includes bringing some flavor of the Tour de France to your poker game as part of the PokerStars Grand Tour. The series brings the worlds of poker and cycling together in a unique new format.

Events feature rich graphics and buy-ins from as little as $1. Players can sprint along the race track eliminating opponents in dynamic tournaments that combine progressive knockout, sit and go, and shootout formats.

Players can win more than $100,000 in prizes and bounties in a race toward the Grand Tour finish line.

Grand Tour is now available on the .COM platform and will launch on real money soon. The game is expected to launch on .EU and .UK soon. Here are some features and how to play:

  • Buy-ins range from $1 to $60. The higher the buy-in, the closer to the finish line players start.
  • Players at the same buy-in level compete in “sprints.” These are four-player progressive knockout sit and go tournaments that last about five minutes.
  • As players knock each other out, their own bounty values increase. They then move to the next sprint, where they will be matched with players of similar bounty values.
  • When someone is eliminated, his value is split two ways. A percentage is added to the winner’s value and a percentage is awarded as cash directly into his account.
  • This cash prize can be multiplied, meaning players could win more than $100,000 at higher stakes.
  • Eliminated players keep any winnings from knockouts.
  • When a player wins a sprint, they can jump right into the next one or save it for later. Every completed sprint gets players closer to the finish line, where they can be crowned a Grand Tour champion.

GGPoker WSOP Super Circuit Series Smashes Guarantee with $134 Million Awarded

The GGPoker WSOP Super Series smashed the $102 million guarantee.

The first international World Series of Poker online series proved to be a major success. After 500 events, including 18 championship ring tournaments, players in the WSOP Super Circuit Series took home $134.7 million.

That vastly exceeded the original $102 million guarantee. The series was held in partnership with GGPoker and wrapped up on March 31.

GG officials said the festival exceeded expectations and that certainly showed in the series’ prize and players pools.

GGPoker WSOP Super Series produces massive numbers

After the partnership announcement in April, the series became something new for both operators. The WSOP.com Super Series has proven popular with players in New Jersey and Nevada.

The GGPoker deal allowed the WSOP to offer the online series to an international audience. As one of the fastest-growing poker sites in the world, GG ramped up the action with massive events and player pools.

GG hosting the series ensured players throughout the globe could play in WSOPC ring events, satellites, and other events. This offered their first opportunity to play in a WSOP tournament.

Here’s a look at some statistics from the series:

  • Number of events – 516
  • Total guaranteed prize pool of all events – $102,365,000
  • Total prizes awarded – $134,706,274
  • Single biggest event prize pool – $12,372,500 (WSOPC Ring Event #8: High Roller Championship $10 million guaranteed)
  • Total number of entries – 485,851
  • Largest number of entries in a single event – 29,357 (WSOPC Ring Event #9: Mini Main Event)

The series also included a major charity tournament, which have been popular recently. The first ring event was a fundraiser for COVID-19 relief and raised $177,045.

“The support of the gaming community for the WSOPC on GGPoker was insane,” said Ty Stewart, WSOP executive director. “No guarantees were too big. Congratulations to all 18 ring event winners.”

GGPoker made the Super Series an even bigger spectacle

With so many players at home during the Coronavirus pandemic, the Super Series proved a win-win for GG and WSOP.

Much of the headline WSOPC Ring Event action was streamed live on Twitch via GGPoker TV. The channel offers an entertaining, podcast-style show hosted by Joe Stapleton.

The WSOP and GGPoker recently announced a partnership on the new Online Super Series.

GGPoker ambassadors Daniel Negreanu, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Felipe Ramos, and Fedor Holz dropped in on the stream to comment on the action. Maria Ho, David Williams, Matt Berkey, Jesse Sylvia, and Marle Cordeiro also joined the mix.

“Over 500 events, more than 485,000 tournament entries and of course over $134 million in prizes awarded – the GGPoker community fully embraced and supported the WSOP Super Circuit Series,” GG head of business development Jean-Christophe Antoine said.

“It was thrilling to witness all of the action, and to see every single ring event guarantee exceeded was something all players could be happy about.”

The GGPoker action continues in June, with more than $2 million in extra prizes awarded through monthly promotions. The site offers numerous daily tournaments for bankrolls of every level.

ISLANDS IN THE STREAM: PokerStars Twitch Efforts Show Industry’s Focus on Platform

Partypoker is ramping up interaction and fan engagement on its Twitch streams thanks to a new deal with Sport Buff.

Not only has online poker been on the rise during the Coronavirus pandemic, Twitch Poker has also seen an increase in streamers and viewers. PokerStars recently added some extra incentive to get in the action by giving away $50,000.

The site gave away chests worth up to $215 every day to players watching PokerStars streamers. This promotion is part of a growing trend toward the platform over the last few years.

“We’ve always been extremely passionate about Twitch,” associate director of public relations Rebecca McAdam Willetts says. “It allows a true window into the mind of professional players and enables viewers to join in for the ride.

“We will continue to invest in Twitch and our Twitch community. Really, even after years of pushing the boundaries with this platform, we’re only just warming up.”

That sentiment could go for much of the industry as well.

Winning with PokerStars Twitch

To take part in the promotion, viewers had to link their PokerStars and Twitch accounts. They then needed to have their stream chat open while watching a PokerStars-affiliated streamer.

The promotion ran throughout much of the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP). The goal is to allow players to experience their own winning moments while also watching content produced on Twitch.

Content primarily focuses on online events, including cash games, and European Poker Tour stops. However, Twitch users can also find other streams including:

  • PokerStars School – Providing tips and lessons as well as new game format tutorials. • PokerStars ambassadors GJ and Pye – The pair’s regular dual stream showcases low buy-in events accessible to low-stakes players.

“PokerStars Twitch is the host channel for an abundance of different types of poker content,” Willetts says. “There’s always something on to entertain or educate on our channel and our Twitch audience is very active and engaged. It’s a fun place to be for any poker fan.”

That includes incorporating the PokerStars Twitch channel into the new “Rail” feature. The Rail offers players a personalized online experience and to incorporate some of their own poker interests. Some of those include:

  • Social media
  • PokerStars School
  • Multimedia content
  • Upcoming major events
  • Recent games played
  • Personalized videos
  • Recent big wins
  • Challenges and promotions

The new feature can also incorporate the PokerStars Twitch stream as well as those of site ambassadors. Beyond that, some non-affiliated streamers will also be included.

“It’s a great place for any poker fan to find video content to watch while they play,” Willetts says.

Record breaking poker streaming

PokerStars ambassador Lex Veldhuis streamed much of his action during the SCOOP series. He and fellow ambassadors Fintan Hand and “Spraggy” made impressive runs for viewers on Twitch.

Hand won an event live on stream, and Lex and Spraggy both made the final 40 of the $10,000 SCOOP Main Event. These finishes live on Twitch may be an example of how poker streamers can bring new players and fans to the game.

Veldhuis peaked at 58,0000 viewers, breaking the Twitch record for concurrent viewers on a poker stream. He also briefly reached the top spot watched channel on Twitch, beating 125,000 other streamers.

More viewers, players, and poker sites going to Twitch for poker

Beyond online events, Twitch has become the place for other “live” events as well. PokerStars recently ran its “Stars CALL for Actioncelebrity game charity initiative using the platform.

Viewers could tune in and check out the action with a host of big names battling it out. Those checking out the action could also donate themselves to the $1 million Coronavirus relief effort.

In recent years, PokerStars moved beyond its Twitch channel being a standalone offering. The site makes use of content formats, tools, and widgets on the Twitch platform itself for a more immersive experience.

The Twitch channel also facilitates more promotional opportunities to reach out to players. Those linking their accounts can take part in community giveaways and exclusive challenges only available to Twitch viewers.

“Integration is important to us,” Willetts says, “and an area we intend to spend more time on.”

Others in the industry are also focusing on Twitch. Longtime poker pro Jason Somerville was a bit of a pioneer making use of the platform. Jeff Gross and Jaime Staples have also been streaming their action for years.

Both are ambassadors for partypoker, which also makes major use of the platform. Party recently streamed action from the online Super High Roller Bowl.

GGPoker also recently launched its own Twitch channel and hopes to create a following for its tournament series. The World Poker Tour has also made use of its Twitch channel for its new celebrity fundraising game in partnership with Budweiser.

The WPT also spotlights its own ClubWPT sweepstakes poker site on Twitch as does Global Poker.

With growing numbers of viewers and streamers, Twitch remains an important part of the poker world. With the COVID-19 pandemic shutting down major tournament poker, it also remains a nice alternative for fans to find some live poker to watch.

PokerStars Gets Personal with New Social Gaming Features ‘The Rail’ and ‘Throwables’

PokerStars recently released some new features that may appeal to social gamers.

Poker operators have focused more and more on mobile gaming and social media in recent years. With millions and millions social gaming on phones, platforms look to bring some of those aspects to the world of online poker.

PokerStars is the latest to detail an interesting new feature. A new concept known as The Rail may appeal to players more used to playing social games than traditional online poker.

The Rail becomes a player-friendly, one-stop shop for personalizing the poker experience.

“We’re all social creatures at heart and sharing, comparing, and interacting is something we enjoy doing in our real and virtual lives,” Stars Group managing director and commercial officer of poker Severin Rasset told PokerScout.

“So, independent from any trends, we think The Rail is a very nice layer to add to the PokerStars experience. It showcases everything that’s happening on our site, the wins, those thrilling moments as they happen and all in one place.”

Social media aspects come to PokerStars

PokerStars announced last week that The Rail had launched on the United Kingdom client software. The addition is a one-stop, personalized destination where players can keep up to date with their favorite activities, events, and content.

The Rail incorporates more aspects of social media to appeal to a new generation of online poker players.

Players receive individually-tailored recommendations based on their own play and personality. Those can include:

  • Social media
  • Twitch streams
  • PokerStars School
  • Multimedia content
  • Upcoming major events
  • Recent games played
  • Personalized videos
  • Recent big wins
  • Newly available challenges and promotions

Company officials hope the new additions keep players more energized and engaged.

“We want it to feel like you’re not just accessing PokerStars to play, but that you’re accessing ‘your’ PokerStars – your very own world and version,” Rasset says.

“For me, it’s also important to stress that this is the beginning of a journey and I expect that we will regularly update The Rail to make it more exciting every time players return.”

Personalizing the online poker experience

The Rail brings a complete all-encompassing poker environment for players. They can find PokerStars features and promotions that interest them. Some advantages might include: ease of use, quick links to favorite games, and being up to date on changes and updates.

Players can personalize the entire platform with multiple widgets for players to set up their own Rail.

“One of the best parts of the job is bringing our players something that is brand new, unique and which adds to their excitement every time they visit PokerStars,” Rasset says.

“We have been working on The Rail behind the scenes for some time to get it just right and we can’t wait to see the difference personalized content makes to the PokerStars experience. This is the first step and we will continue to see new additions and regular updates as this unfolds.”

The Rail now puts players in charge of their own PokerStars home screen. Players decide what and how they view content, games, and more.

PokerStars brings new elements to game play

Beyond The Rail, PokerStars has also added a new feature with players looking to vent some frustration. “Throwables” are virtual objects that allow players to engage in some unique interaction with fellow players at the table.

These allow players to display a range of emotions and have some fun bringing the game to life. Three Throwables were set to go live on March 14 and include:

  • Fireworks – Launch rockets across the table at an opponent, setting fireworks off above a player’s head.
  • Tissues – Throw a box of tissues at an opponent to dry their tears after a bad beat.
  • Alarm Clock – Tell an opponent to get a move on with the alarm clock feature (see below). The clock will ring and shake when it lands. This feature can be unlocked through a limited time challenge.

Ready to launch a virtual rocket at a fellow player? The Rail and Throwables are now available on .UK and will launch on other PokerStars sites in the coming months.

Rasset promises more to come to the platform including more for The Rail.

“We have lots of plans and there is a long list of items that are already in development, or will be developed soon, but we prefer to keep some surprises up our sleeves,” he says.

“We are also open to hearing from our customers on new features they would like to see on The Rail.”

SCOOOP expands, now with $135 million guaranteed

PokerStars SCOOP players now have even more action. The series has now been extended through May 31 with 132 additional events. The expansion also brings the guarantee from the original $85 million to a hefty $135 million.

Along with a full slate of tournaments, PokerStars offers some other opportunities during the series. Some of those promotions include:

  • $5,000 Second Chance Freerolls – These run daily and are given to any player who busts a SCOOP tournament for the first time that day.
  • Special SCOOP Spin & Go’s – These offer Main Event tickets worth $10,300 from as little as $4.
  • Sunday Storm Anniversary Promotion – The first 50,000 players who bust in the Sunday Storm anniversary receive a SCOOP Freeroll ticket.  Tickets to the Medium Main Event will be up for grabs.
  • Player of the Series Leaderboard – Player leaderboards have been altered a bit this year. For the first half, there will be a leaderboard based on player participation and success with winners receiving SCOOP tickets. In the second half, cash prizes will be up for grabs. The overall Player of the Series earns a $20,000 cash prize and SCOOP Trophy.

Mike “SirWatts” Watson made some news by reaching two heads-up matches on Saturday. The first saw him win Event 66-H: $2,100 NLHE for $80,642 for his fifth career SCOOP title and second of this series.

He then came close to his sixth title in Event 65-H: $1,050 8-Game, facing off against Noah “Exclusive” Boeken. The Dutch player eventually took the title for $38,494, with Watson taking $29,098.

New cycling game rolls on

Players can now bring a bit of the Tour de France to their own poker game as part of the PokerStars Grand Tour.

Qualifiers for these events are running on a daily basis. Unibet also runs daily super-qualifiers for all events above a €25 buy-in.

Along with plenty of tournaments during UOS8, players can battle for a spot among several leaderboards. There will be an extra €30,000 up for grabs for the best overall performances over the series. Here’s a look at the complete remaining schedule:

LET’S MAKE A DEAL: GGPoker Reaches Partnerships Expanding Network into Europe, Asia

GGPoker announced three major expansion deals recently.

It’s been a whirlwind of news for GGPoker over the last few months. From major ambassador signings to major event launches, the company’s reach continues to grow.

That included some expansion news in April and May. The site also announced a partnership with one of the biggest names in poker – Fedor Holz. That also includes a deal with his training site PokerCode.

The news comes after reaching a deal with the World Series of Poker for an international Super Online Circuit Series. GG has also had some other major signings including Daniel Negreanu, Bryn Kenney, and Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier.

Since launching in Asia in 2014, GG has quickly become one of the top operators in the world. Company officials believe the site is poised to grow even more and these types of expansion agreements will help.

GGPoker, OlyBet sign strategic partnership

At the end of April, GG reached a strategic partnership with Olympic Entertainment Group. The deal moves OlyBet poker players onto the GGPoker Network, the largest in the world.

OlyBet is the largest provider of online poker, sports betting, and casino games in the Baltics and Finland. Olympic also has more than 100 casinos in:

  • Estonia
  • Italy
  • Lithuania
  • Latvia
  • Malta
  • Slovakia

GG software is now available on OlyBet in all local languages in the traditional desktop client and mobile options.

“GGPoker Network is the wunderkind of the post-boom online poker business and this deal is great news for all OlyBet players of today and tomorrow,” OlyBet managing director Veiko Krünberg said. “GGPoker Network is one of the clear leaders in global online poker and massive growth lies ahead in Europe and North America.”

The partnership extends to all current and future OlyBet markets. The move offers GGPoker an expanding footprint into Europe as well as a partner with live poker experience. Olympic Entertainment organizes major European poker festivals like the Battle of Malta and Kings of Tallinn (Estonia).

“OlyBet is arguably one of the most experienced poker operators in Europe,” Head of GGPoker Jean-Christophe Antoine said. “We want OlyBet to become the dominant poker player in their markets and GGPoker will support OlyBet 100% in achieving this.”

TotoGaming joins GGPoker Network

A week after the Olympic deal, GG announced another partnership with TotoGaming also joining the network. The brand is operated by platform provider Digitain.

“We are delighted to partner with GGPoker, the world’s most extensive poker network,” digitain external communication manager Samvel Mkrtumyan said.

“With an impressive array of highly engaging jackpot, tournament, and stake options, the company’s product suite makes for an exciting addition to our award-winning casino platform. We look forward to a long and mutually-beneficial commercial relationship.”

The company offers licensed sports betting, casino, and other games to the Armenian public.

“We are continuing our expansion with TotoGaming and we are not going to stop,” Antoine said.

“TotoGaming is an impressive partner to add to our roster, and it will be wonderful to see Armenian players enjoying the best poker experience on the market.”

Company welcomes Fedor Holz, Pokercode

As if the company’s stable of poker ambassadors wasn’t big enough, German poker superstar Fedor Holz becomes the latest addition. On May 4, GGPoker announced a partnership with poker training site Pokercode.

The site’s community is led by Holz and fellow poker pro Matthias Eibinger. Holz has lifetime live and online poker earnings of more than $42 million and Eibinger has $13 million. Holz becomes a member of Team GGPoker as an ambassador as well.

Members of the Team Pokercode community have access to elite-level training materials. Pokercode will also offer additional promotions to its players.

For GG, the platform gains access to a respected online training site. Pokercode will share training materials with the entire player base. That includes community coaches offering advice and strategy help.

“We’re thrilled to become a GGPoker partner, particularly at this exciting time, and I’m honored to join Team GGPoker,” Holz said. “In addition to the broad suite of poker training our players already have access to, helping them see much greater success at the tables, Pokercode players can now call the best platform in the industry home.”

Holz adds even more cachet to the Team GGPoker brand. The 26-year-old poker phenomenon has numerous major scores on some of poker’s biggest stages. That includes one WSOP bracelet after winning the $111,111 High Roller for One-Drop in 2016 for $5 million

“Pokercode is yet another top brand to add to our list of partners,” Antoine said. “It’s a pleasure to welcome Fedor Holz onto Team GGPoker.

“His passion for the game and success both live and online is truly impressive. We couldn’t be happier to welcome Fedor and the entire Pokercode community.”

GROWTH SPURT: PokerStars Extends SCOOP, Bumps Guarantee to $135 milion

PokerStars has announced SCOOP will run through May 31 with 132 additional events.

The good news just keeps coming for PokerStars SCOOP players. Last week, the site increased the overall guarantee by $10 million and has now extended the action through May 31.

That offers players in quarantine 132 additional events. The expansion also brings the guarantee from the original $85 million to a hefty $135 million.

More PokerStars tournaments to SCOOP

The expansion comes as poker players still await the reopening of live poker. That remains in the future, however, and online operators continue to report record fields and ever-escalating guarantees.

Originally, the schedule included 240 events spread across Low, Medium, and High events. The extended SCOOP continues that system with three different buy-in level for the same game.

Notable additions to the schedule include:

  • Event 91-M – $109 NLHE [Progressive KO] with $750,000 guaranteed (May 23)
  • Event 96-L – $55 NLHE [Second Chance Main Event] with $1 million guaranteed (May 24)
  • Event 121-M – $109 NLHE [Progressive KO, Sunday Million SE] with $2.5 million guaranteed (May 31)

Players can get in on the action with satellites running daily for as little as $0.30.  The complete schedule of SCOOP tournaments additions is below.

SCOOP Main Events set for Sunday, other series promotions continue

The series was set to wrap up May 19 with three Main Events set for Sunday. Those include the $109 Low with a $3 million guarantee and $1,050 Medium and $10,300 High both guaranteeing $5 million.

PokerStars will continue with its other promotions and events throughout the remainder of the series.
