GOING GREEN: Live Irish Poker Open Returns, Partypoker Qualifiers Get Underway

After a two-year hiatus, the Irish Poker Open returns to the live felt April 11-18 with qualifying opportunities available at partypoker.

After a two-year hiatus, the Irish Poker Open returns to the live felt April 11-18 at Citywest Hotel Dublin. Players will find  42 tournaments with buy-ins ranging from €100 to €5,000, including 14 championship events.

“We have always said how exciting it is to launch the Irish Poker Open each year, however, the launch of Irish Poker Open 2022 definitely feels a little extra special, given the particularly difficult times people have gone through over the last two years,” festival organizers Paul O’Reilly and JP McCann noted in a news release.

“We are really looking forward to welcoming all of our Irish and international players back to the Irish felt, whilst ensuring that player and staff safety remain at the forefront of our minds.

Partypoker will once again be offering online qualifying opportunities for those hoping to punch a ticket to Ireland. 

What to expect from the series

Europe’s longest-running poker festival ran online at partypoker over the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But the action is once again live and continues the momentum the live game has garnered in recent months.

The Irish Open is one of the more popular European poker series. Players have some major action to look forward to. Plenty of Irish-themed entertainment is also on the menu for players heading to Dublin.

The €1,150 Main Event kicks off on April 13 with four starting flights before the championship event concludes on April 18. The last Main Event ran in 2019 with 1,807 players producing a €1.8 million prize pool.

Several other big events are also on tap rhis year including two championship events kicking off the series. The $350 No Limit Hold’em Six-Max and  €350 Eight-Game Mix are both set for April 11.

The €250 Mini Irish Open also begins on April 17 for those seeking a main event championship at a bargain price. A $1,100 Mystery Bounty event begins on the same day and should bring some added fun to the series.

Qualifying online at partypoker

Partypoker played host to the Irish Open over the last two years. Brazil’s Pablo Silva won the 2020 online event with Pavel Veksler taking the title in 2021.

The series may be returning to the live felt, but party is once again offering players a chance to qualify online for a much lower price point. The first €109 Main Event satellite is set for Feb. 6 and guarantees at least 10 Main Event seats.

However players can earn a seat into the satellite in qualifiers starting at just €0.01. These events then feed into the €22 Phase 2 satellites, where players can win a €109 entry. Here’s a look at the complete Irish Poker Open schedule.

JACKPOT: Partypoker Player Scores $1.2M in SPINS Game; KO Series Continues This Week

One lucky partypoker player recently turned a $100 SPINS entry into a $1.2 million jackpot. Plenty of action also remains in the KO Series.

One lucky partypoker player recently turned a $100 SPINS entry into a $1.2 million jackpot.

The player known as “AfterH0urs” bought into the three-handed tournament along with “patotecomoherma” and “YIYOOO”. A short time later a massive payout headed his way.

The quick-action sit and go tournament turned into a dream come true. The feat brought the ultimate online poker payout and some life-changing money.

Winning big at partypoker

SPINS are partyopker’s version of jackpot-style sit and go. The winner-take-all tournaments play quickly with the prize pool determined randomly before play begins.

Win multipliers range from 2x a player’s buy-in to 240,000x. Prize pools can reach as high as $1.2 million for SPINS priced for as little as $5.

The tournament can also award players with prize packages to partypoker LIVE events and online festivals.

Heads-up for seven figures

The latest $1 million jackpot event saw two players remaining after YIYOOO was knocked out on the fifth hand. AfterH0urs and patotecomoherma both held even chip stacks at 5.5 big blinds going into the deciding hand.

Patotecomoherma shoved all in holding K-4 off-suit from the button and AfterH0urs called with A-6 off-suit. The flop came out A-9-5, giving AfterH0urs top pair.

The turn brought a 4, giving Patotecomoherma bottom pair and only five outs going into the river. When a 6 came on the river, the board gave AfterH0urs two pair and sealed the victory for a cool million bucks.

That huge payout, however, was a fact that the winning player was unaware of at the time. AfterH0urs didn’t realize how high the jackpot was when he began playing the tournament.

“It seemed like just a standard morning,” AfterH0urs said after the win. “I was playing around 10-11 tables and did not even notice the jackpot for quite some time.

“I continued with my multiple table gameplay and a single, slightly different, table finally caught my attention. I checked the prize pool and could not believe my eyes … $1.2 million.”

The new millionaire quickly focused and used the skills he’d learned through playing many other SPINS.

“I focused on the table, applied the tactics and decisions I knew were profitable, and I managed to win,” AfterH0urs said. “What is next you ask? Proper investment and a little bit of fun enjoying life!”

KO Series continues this week

Players looking for their own big payouts have plenty of action remaining to check out in the KO Series. The festival runs through Feb. 7 with some major events still on the schedule.

The KO Series featured 53 events with buy-ins ranging from $1.10 to $1,050. Most events feature Low, Medium, and High price points to appeal to players of all bankrolls.

The series features several “Weekender” events offering some nice prize pools. These events return on Friday. Here’s a look at those buy-in levels and guarantees for these three-day events:

  • $215 High – $150,000 guaranteed

Partypoker Joins the NFT Craze, Collectibles Highlight Biggest Moments in Site History 

Partypoker has teamed up with Theta Labs to become the latest poker company to get in on the NFT craze.

Over the last year, poker tours and companies have launched into the world of NFTs. Partypoker now becomes the latest, giving poker fans the chance to own a piece of the site’s history .

For those new to the collectible craze, NFT stands for non-fungible token. They are unique digital files, which can include items such as artwork, music, or videos.

These can also be resold and some are fetching big bucks, depending on rarity. NFTs are a modern twist on the classic sports card and leagues have seen major success by launching their own NFTs.

Partypoker is now teaming up with Theta Labs to offer poker fans a shot to grab some of partypoker’s biggest moments.

“Partypoker has established a history across 20 years full of great hands and epic poker moments that have happened during our live and online events,” partypoker director Vadim Soloveychik said in a news release. “We are happy to give players the opportunity to own their very own piece of poker history in partnership with Theta. I am truly excited for partypoker to join the NFT space.”

What to expect from partypoker NFTs

Theta Labs already has some experience in the poker NFT market. The company announced a partnership with the World Poker Tour last year.

The World Series of Poker also released a batch of NFTs in 2021. Players themselves, such as Phil Ivey and Antonio Esfandiari, have also released NFTs of their own big moments. Partypoker is now getting in on the act as well.

The party collection showcases iconic moments and tournament hands in the history of partypoker and partypoker LIVE. Some will also feature special PokerApes, a series of high-definition images with a partypoker twist. Some of those will feature full 3D artwork and other unique traits.

Theta Labs is a distributed video delivery pioneer, powered by blockchain technology. Theta provides end-to-end infrastructure for decentralized video and powers NFT and metaverse platforms.

A growing partnership beyond poker

The new deal brings something new to poker NFTs. For the first time, players can view available collectibles from an online poker platform.

The partypoker marketplace will feature primary sales of new NFTs and a secondary marketplace for users to trade. Much of that will be available in the partypoker software client.

The agreement may also move beyond the poker brand. Party is owned by Entain Group, a leading global sports betting, gaming, and interactive entertainment group.

The partypoker launch is the first stage of a wider partnership between Entain and Theta. Plans call for NFTs to be developed for brands across the company, incorporating video streaming, metaverse, games, and more.

Theta is one of the first partners working with Ennovate, an Innovation hub launched by Entain in London. Ennovate will invest up to £100 million in technology projects, including many with UK and global partners. The company has earmarked about £40 million specifically for the UK.

“This is an exciting, new, global collaboration,” Theta Labs CEO Mitch Liu said. “For the first time, we are licensing our integrated white-label NFT platform to one of the world’s largest sports betting,  gaming and interactive entertainment groups, and we couldn’t ask for better partners in partypoker and Entain Group.

“Being integrated into the partypoker application enables an NFT user experience as exciting and seamless as possible to customers, powered by Theta Network, Theta edge nodes to support video NFTs and TFUEL for transactions.”

The companies haven’t announced a date yet for the NFT launch, but more details are expected to be released soon.

KO Series Packs a Punch at Partypoker; Coin Flip Promotion Also Returns With Plenty of Prizes

“It’s been more than a year since we last hosted a KO Series, so it’s great to have it back in the calendar again,” partypoker’s head of poker room management Chris Donnachie said in a news release.

“The last couple of series we’ve run have included many flighted events, which got us thinking it’s time to mix in some good old single-day events in a series.”

Single-day events are a big feature for latest partypoker series

Partypoker has designed the KO Series to appeal to online poker players of all bankrolls. Buy-ins range from $1.10 to $1,050.

Single-day tournaments are a major focus of the series with these events running daily. Players will find 49 one-day events on the schedule in total. Some single-day 8-max events even guarantee as much as $100,000.

These tournaments complement the Main Events and Weekender schedule, which feature multiple starting flights. The one-day events include a range of formats for players to enjoy including:

  • 6-max
  • 7-max
  • 8-max
  • Mix-Max
  • Turbos

Working for the weekend

The schedule commences with the Weekender, one of three of these major events held throughout the series. Players can buy into Weekenders for between $2.20 and $215 with guarantees ranging from $10,000 to $150,000.

The end of the first weekend marks the start of the Main Events. Players can buy into these championship tournaments for $3.30, $22, or $320. These buy-in levels come with guarantees of $20,000, $200,000, and $500,000 respectively.

Starting flights will be held for all three buy-in levels on three consecutive Sundays. Flight 1D and a turbo flight are also set for the final day of the series. Final tables will play out later the same day.

Big payouts planned

“Kabuzzz” was the big winner from last year’s three Main Events for a total payout of $144,062. Players will once again have a chance to match that success.

Many satellites are planned, allowing players to win a seat in the Main Event starting at just $0.01.

“The KO Series is one of the most anticipated series of the year and I’m really looking forward to it,” Team partypoker’s Patrick Leonard said.

“My favorite format of poker is 6-Max PKO as it’s action packed, encourages aggressive, loose play, and running a stack up in one of those is probably the most fun stage of any poker tournament.”

Coin Flip promotion returns

High Roller Repeat: Pascal Lefrancois Completes Dynamic Double in partypoker MILLIONS

Canada's Pascal Lefrancois recently won his second $25,500 Super High Roller of the year in partypoker’s MILLIONS Online series.

Many players dream of winning a major online poker tournament at some point in their lives. Pascal Lefrancois recently continued a dream run at the online poker tables. 

 In December, the Canadian won the $25,500 Super High Roller in partypoker’s MILLIONS Online series. Lefrancois topped a field of 43 players for a $323,823 prize.

That win came after winning the same event in March’s MILLIONS Online for $525,089. That’s quite a double for the 35-year-old online poker star.

“It’s always a fun challenge to compete in these high buy-in tournaments, against basically the same guys time after time,” Lefrancois says. “Being fortunate enough to be able to come out on top is obviously a great feeling and a nice achievement.”

Lefrancois spoke this week with PokerScout about his life at the poker table.

No stranger to poker success

Lefrancois grew up on the north shore of Montreal and still lives in the area today. He began playing poker at age 17 while playing junior hockey.

Several of his teammates were regular No Limit Hold’em players and Lefrancois decided to give it a shot too.

“I just got hooked very quickly and started playing online shortly after while I was studying finance at University of Montreal,” he says.

A new career was born and Lefrancois now has $5.3 million in live tournament winnings. That includes some massive online scores. His biggest tournament win came in 2018 when Lefrancois took down the €10,300 partypoker MILLIONS Grand Final in Barcelona for $2.1 million.

The poker phenom has numerous other five- and six-figure scores as well. Another career highlight came in 2010, when he won a $1,500 No Limit Hold’em event at the World Series of Poker for $568,974

Lefrancois doesn’t have a particular poker routine. He looks for major tournament series and high buy-in events.

“Sometimes I don’t play for weeks,” he says. “Sometimes I play 60 hours a week if there are games I don’t want to miss.”

What does Lefrancois enjoy most about the game?

“I’m a gambler at heart, so I really like the gambling aspect of the game,” he says. “I come from a sport background and I always enjoyed competition, so that’s definitely something you find in poker as well.”

Poker and beyond

When not winning big at the poker tables, other interests occupy much of Lefrancois’ schedule. He has several business interests including some real estate holdings including being a partner in a restaurant called Oregon on the north shore of Montreal.

The eatery features high-end cuisine and wine selections, earning nice reviews among diners. Even more business investments could be in the works, with some of his winnings funneled into other interests away from the poker table.

Beyond business and poker, Lefrancois also enjoys traveling and some nice meals with friends and family. He even still hits the rink for some hockey and also plays tennis and golf. Watching sports is also a nice way to relax away from his poker life.

The recent high roller win was certainly a nice way to close out 2021. He battled it out at the tables while at home with his wife. Despite completing a massive accomplishment, there was no big celebration. When he finally secured the win, however, Lefrancois did work in a small reward.

“While I play poker, I like a calm environment, especially in high-pressure situations,” he says. “I enjoyed a good egg nog and Macallan (Scotch whisky) after the win.”

Certainly more poker lies ahead for Lefrancois. He doesn’t have any major plans at the moment and just takes on big online poker events as they come along. The super high roller win adds to a growing poker resumé.

“Poker wise, I’ve never really had tangible goals,” he says. “I take it one day at a time, and I’m going to spend time playing as long as I enjoy it.”

Partypoker LIVE Returns with Grand Prix UK; Options Also Included for Online Players

Partypoker LIVE returns with Dusk Till Dawn Poker Club hosting the £150 Grand Prix UK Jan. 16-23 with a £100,000 guarantee.

Live poker continues to return and partypoker is getting in on the action to kick off 2022. Players can look forward to partypoker LIVE returning in the United Kingdom with Dusk Till Dawn Poker Club hosting the £150 Grand Prix UK this month.

The two-day tournament runs from Jan. 16-23 with a £100,000 guaranteed prize pool. The tournament also allows plenty of flexibility for players. The tournament offers live or online formats for players to battle it out in the Grand Prix.

“We’re really looking forward to getting back to live poker and returning to Dusk Till Dawn with the much-loved Grand Prix brand,” partypoker head of live events Dan Rose said in a news release. “The team can’t wait to be back on the ground and meet the players after such a long time away.”

Live and online choices come with the return of partypoker LIVE

Those looking for opportunities to play in the series have several options. There will be four online starting flights with the first two running on the opening day of the tournament. Two more are set for Jan. 18.

The live Day 1 flights commence on three consecutive days from Jan. 20-22, with Day 2 taking place the following day. Players can also enter the live starting days by buying in online via a holding tank.

Partypoker regularly offers a chance for players of all bankrolls to play. That continues with the Grand Prix UK.

Two of the four online Day 1s are designed for recreational players looking to fit some poker around their busy schedule. These are built around an interesting addition to the event: “The Sprint.”

Levels for these online Day 1s last for just three minutes, speeding up the process. These allow players to qualify for Day 2 and get into the money faster.

All players who reach the tournament’s second day will cash. All Day 1 flights are capped, so players wishing to enter are advised to buy in early.

Additionally, buying in with partypoker via the online Day 1s or holding tanks offers players entry into the Golden Chip Last Longer.

The player winning the contest scores a £1,100 Main Event ticket for a festival set to take place in March. More details on this festival will be released soon.

Grand Prix KO Winter Edition Rolls Into Partypoker; A Look at Recent MILLIONS Online Winners

Partypoker players can rev their engines through Jan. 17 with the Grand Prix KO Winter Edition offering 14 PKO events.

Partypoker players can rev their engines through Jan. 17 with the Grand Prix KO Winter Edition. The series features 14 progressive knockout (PKO) events with buy-ins ranging from $3.30 to $530.

The series promises something for players of varying skill levels and bankrolls. The schedule includes satellites for most events, and all events come with several starting flights to give more chances to win.

“The Christmas and New Year period is always a busy one for us here at partypoker, and the same can be said for our players, so we wanted to give our players a series which allows maximum flexibility during a time where poker doesn’t always take centre stage,” partypoker head of poker room management Chris Donnachie said in a news release.

“The Grand Prix KO Winter Edition is the perfect solution, with its multiple daily starting flights and chances to play.”

A look at the series from partypoker

The $109 Main Event highlights the series and features a $500,000 guarantee. That event kicked off on Jan. 1 with numerous starting flights scheduled before the final day on Jan. 17. The last starting flight is scheduled for the same day as Day 2.

Players will have numerous qualifying opportunities as well. The Main Event satellite tree starts at just $0.01 with the popular centrolls running daily.

The $215 Six-Max Championship runs through Jan. 6 and comes with a $200,000 guarantee. The  $55 Super 50 also begins Jan. 3 and continues through Jan. 10. Players in that event will find a nice guarantee of $200,000.

Mini events and high rollers

Even more is on tap for players at upper and lower price points. Bigger stakes players will find some nice high roller tournaments to check out.

The $530 Seven-Max High Roller runs through Jan. 10 with a guarantee of $500,000. The $530 Six-Max High Roller then kicks off and runs until the final day of the series and also promises a $500,000 guarantee.

Beyond the Main Event and high rollers, partypoker is also including mini events to make the series accessible to a wide range of players. Except for the high-rollers, all scheduled Grand Prix tournaments come with a mini edition.

The mini tournament runs alongside the larger tournament on the same dates. The buy-in for these events is only 10% of the main tournament buy-in.

Capping the schedule is the $33 Closer during the final week of the series and guarantees a $150,000 prize pool.

“I’m looking forward to playing some poker over Christmas and the Winter Grand Prix is perfect for players of any level,” Team partypoker’s Carl Froch said. “I’m particularly looking forward to the Main Event, and there are plenty of opportunities to qualify for this for much less than $109. I hope to see lots of you at the tables.”

Ramiro Petrone scores MILLIONS Main Event

In other partypoker action, the MILLIONS Online series was set to wrap up on Monday. Argentina’s Ramiro Petrone closed out 2021 in nice fashion by winning the $5,300 Main Event for $859,019.

He topped a field of 1,041 players, which generated a prize pool of $5.2 million. Petrone now has more than $11 million in online tournament winnings.

The final table was streamed live on partypoker’s Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook Live channels. 

Former world No. 1-ranked online tournament player Sebastian Sikorski entered the final table as chip leader. Petrone returned to the action in second place.

Sikorski was eventually knocked out in third with Petrone heads up against Spain’s Juan Pardo Dominguez. Petrone rallied from almost a 2-to-1 chip disadvantage to earn the championship. Dominguez picked up a nice runner-up payday of $591,687.

In the $1,050 partypoker Championship, Sweden’s Niklas Astedt claimed the top prize for $186,707. The event produced a total prize pool of $1.1 million.

Both Petrone and Astedt received a trophy to mark their achievements. Some other players also took home significant wins.

Team partypoker’s Jaime Staples won the Super 500 PKO for $59,399. Eduardo Silva’s first-place finish in the Super 500 brought a prize of $109,307. Timothy Cavallin placed first in the Grand Prix for $61,668 and Ivan Zufic won the Opener for $43,387.

WPT high rollers bring big payouts

The $25,500 Super High Roller also produced some interesting results. Canada’s Pascal Lefrancois won the same event in March, going back to back in the tournament.

This time around, Lefrancois topped a field of 43 players for a $323,823 prize. He’s no stranger to success in the online game and at the live felt. Lefrancois has more than $5.3 million in live tournament winnings.

The $10,300 High Roller drew 59 players with Daniel Smiljkovic as the last player standing. He won a top prize of $164,232.

Smilijkovic defeated Georgi Sandev in heads-up play with the runner-up banking $104,516. Team partyopoker’s Isaac Haxton finished third for $69,876 after taking fourth in the Super High Roller for $99,129.

Partypoker Releases Complete MILLIONS Online Schedule; Two Championships Highlight Series

partypoker 2021 millions online schedule released

The partypoker MILLIONS Online action returns to the site next week with 13 events running Dec. 9-30. Buy-ins range from $109 to $5,300 with opportunities for players of all bankrolls to jump in the festivities.

“It’s great to have MILLIONS Online, the online version of our flagship live series, back in its December home once again,” partypoker’s Head of Poker Room Management Chris Donnachie said in a news release.

A look at the Main Event, partypoker Championship

The $5,300 Main Event takes center stage in the series with a $5 million guarantee. The tournament features several starting flights on each Sunday throughout the festival – Dec. 12, 19, and 26.

A Day 1 turbo is also scheduled for Dec. 27, with Day 2 held on the same day. The Main Event crowns a champion the following day when the final table plays out.

Once again, partypoker is offering numerous qualifying opportunities throughout the series. Weekly satellite finals run every Sunday.

The Main Event satellite tree buy-in starts for as little as $0.01, with centrolls running daily. The centrolls lead to a $3.30 feeder satellite, followed by a $22 Phase 1 and $109 Phase 2 before the Sunday final.

In March, one lucky player took this route to a MILLIONS Main Event title. Endrit Geci took the top prize of $774,838, a goal for many entering the low-cost qualifiers.

The $1,050 partypoker Championship offers players another prestigious event. The tournament runs alongside the Main Event and comes with a $1 million guarantee.

Main Event and championship winners also claim a prestigious trophy to mark their achievement.

“The inaugural partypoker Championship perfectly complements the Main Event,” Donnachie said. “With chances to qualify for either of these events for as little as $0.01, alongside the new additions of $109 buy-in Grand Prix events, the series will be accessible to a wide range of players. Any player of any bankroll can come along and play for the chance to call themselves a champion.”

Partypoker MILLIONS highlights

Beyond the Main Event, more big tournament action is also on tap throughout the series. The $320 Opener kicks off the series with a $250,000 guarantee and features six starting flights.

Another highlight on the schedule is the $109 Grand Prix with a $300,000 guarantee. Several starting flights run every day from the opening day of the series. The tournament then plays down to a winner on Dec. 20.

The two-day Grand Prix PKO (progressive knockout) begins on the same day as the regular Grand Prix. This event offers players the same guarantee and buy-in.

The Super 500 and Super 500 PKO follow a similar format with the dates of each mirroring the Grand Prix. Both Supers bring a $500,000 guarantee for a $530 buy-in.

The two-day Six-Max PKO Championship and Seven-Max PKO Championship each feature eight starting flights. Both also guarantee $1 million for a $2,100 buy-in.

The $320 Closer concludes the series on Dec. 30 , and comes with a $250,000 guarantee. The two-day tournament begins Dec. 23 with eight starting flights.

“MILLIONS Online is my most anticipated series of the year,” Team partypoker’s Matt Staples said. “I’m looking to make something special happen.”
