Grand Prix KO Series Wheels Into Partypoker This Weekend

PartyPoker Live’s Grand Prix UK returns in July with a heavy online poker schedule before players head off to play live at Dusk Till Dawn.

Fresh off wrapping up the WPT World Online Championships, partypoker now waves the green flag on the Grand Prix KO Series. The series is the online version of the partypoker LIVE Grand Prix and runs from  Sept. 19 – Oct. 4 with 16 progressive knockout events.

The schedule features events for every player level with buy-ins ranging from $5.50 to $530. This festival follows the success of the first Grand Prix KO Series held earlier in the summer. Online poker players have plenty of options to rev their poker engines during the series.

A look at the partypoker Grand Prix

Partypoker is promising a player-friendly series meant to fit all schedules and bankrolls. Events are structured for players in different time zones allowing players to participate regardless of which country they’re in. Those making the second day of an event are guaranteed to finish in the money.

The two-day $109 Main Event begins on Sept. 26 and comes with a $500,000 guarantee. Once again, party hopes to get even more players involved at bargain price points.

Players can qualify for the Main Event for just $0.01, with satellites feeding into the tournament. Once the championship begins, there are several more chances for players to enter.

Starting flights then run across the following eight days after the first Day 1 kicks off. That includes a Day 1 Hyper and a Day 1 Turbo starting flights, which are set for the same day as the final day on Oct. 4.

Germany’s Sasa Lukovic took the Main Event crown back in August, bagging the total top prize of $50,159.

Other series highlights

Beyond the Main Event, players will find plenty of other action. The $11 Mini Main Event carries a $100,000 guarantee.

The $5.50 Mini Six-Max also comes with a $50,000 guarantee. Both events offer players plenty of bang for the buck. Other notable events on the schedule include:

  •  $55 Six-Max – $250,000 guaranteed
  • $530 Six-Max High Roller – $500,000 guaranteed
  • $215 Seven-Max Turbo – $50,000 guaranteed
  • $320 Hyper – $30,000 guaranteed
  • $33 Hyper – $15,000 guaranteed

Here’s a look at the complete schedule.

Ready to Rok: Gostisa Claims Latest WPT World Online Championship at Partypoker

The WPT World Online Championships came to a close on Tuesday at partypoker with Rok Gostisa taking the $5,300 Main Event title.

The WPT World Online Championships came to a close on Tuesday at partypoker with Rok Gostisa taking the $5,300 Main Event title. Along with adding his name to the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup, the Slovenian players scored $959,493.

The score capped over a month of WPT action at the site featuring numerous main events and other side action. Gostisa topped a field of 1,179 entries with a prize pool of $5.9 million shared by the top 178 finishers.

Inside the partypoker WPT Main Event

Gostisa is a regular online player and also has more than $205,000 in live tournament winnings. The main event included four starting flights and Team partypoker’s Joao Simao was one of those at the final table. He spoke with PokerScout earlier this month about his dream to win a WPT title.

“I’m a hunter of event titles,” Simao said. “I won a WPT PLO event in May on partypoker and now I’m looking to go for more titles because the feeling was incredible, and I want more of it.”

However, Simao came up just short in his quest. The Brazilian pro finished ninth for $76,713.

Vlad Darie, based in Austria, held a significant chip lead going into the final table, but ultimately finished third.

He was eliminated after moving all in with A-7 and Gostisa flopped a set with 8-8. Darie cashed for $453,677 in third and Gostia faced Canada’s David Peters heads-up for the title.

Peters has been one of the hottest players in poker recently. He held almost a 2-to-1 chip lead, but Gostisa turned things around and eventually scored the championship.

The final hand saw Peters flop a set of sixes on the flop against Gostisa’s pocket tens. Gostisa then hit a set on the river to become the latest WPT champion.

Along with almost $1 million, Gostisa has also won a Hublot watch. The final table was streamed live on partypoker’s Twitch, YouTube and Facebook Live channels with Team partypoker’s Jeff Gross and James Dempsey calling the action.

Big scores from small buy-ins, other champions crowned

The WPT Main Event offered opportunities for players of all bankrolls to take a shot at becoming a champion. Partypoker ran numerous Main Event satellites and qualifiers starting at just one cent.

A few players really cashed in on these qualifying opportunities. Yaroslav Bogaev and Nikolai Gorbunov both entered at the daily centroll stage and advanced to Day 2. Bogaev placed 39th for $23,499 and Gorbunov finished 99th for $13,204.

A few more champions were also crowned in the series’ final few days. The $1,050 Mini and $109 Micro Main Events also crowned winners.

The Mini title went to Mexico-based Barry Hutter, who won $257,423. Sweden’s Kristian Karlsson took the Micro for $45,434.

Gross scored some nice finishes in two of the Main Events and ran deep in all three. He reached Day 2 and cashed in both the Main Event and Mini version, banking a total of $30,586. The finish in the championship came after qualifying in a Phase 3 satellite.

“To make both Day 2s was incredible,” he said in a news release. “The WPT Main Event was extra special, as I played a $109 phase into the $530 Mega Sat, and then things went well from there.

“I absolutely love playing in WPT events on partypoker because they have the best structures and events.”

Partypoker Roundup: WPT World Championships Reach Final Days; Plenty of Events Still Ahead

The World Poker Tour is heading to France and Italy next year as the company announced three stops in the countries for 2023 last week.

The online poker action continues in the WPT World Online Championships at partypoker through this weekend. The $5,300 Main Event, featuring a $5 million guarantee, is underway and players still have opportunities to qualify with starting flights also still ahead.

The series runs through Sept. 14 culminating with an opportunity to join the WPT Champions Club. Beyond the main event, several players scored big wins over the last week. Here’s a look at some of the recent news surrounding the series.

WPT championship qualifiers continue

One final opportunity remains for players of all bankrolls to earn a shot in the Main Event with the last mega satellite set for Sunday. Plenty of events remain in the last week including the two final main event starting flights.

Players can qualify for just $0.01 with centroll feeder satellites running on a daily basis. Those feed into other qualifiers, culminating in the mega satellite. Players can also buy into that event directly for $530 and up to 50 tickets are on the line this week.

The Day 1C starting flight plays out on Sunday. So far, 103 players have advanced to Day 2 with Hungary’s Andras Nemeth holding the chip lead with more than 4 million.

Players will also find Day 1 turbo flights for all three main events on Monday. The $1,050 Mini and $109 Micro come with guarantees of $1 million and $300,000 respectively.

The second day of play continues on the same day with final tables set for Tuesday, the series’ final day. The WPT Main Event final table streams live on the partypokerTV Twitch channel.

Big WPT events ahead at partypoker

Other opportunities to become a WPT champion are on tap as well. The $109 Closer offers a $500,000 guarantee with the $11 Mini Closer promising $100,000. Both crown a champion on Monday.

Other events include some nice progressive knockout tournaments on Saturday, with all three mix-max championships kicking off. The $2,100 WPT Mix-Max Championship guarantees $1 million with the $215 Mini awarding at least $300,000.

The $22 Micro guarantees $100,000, and all mixed-max starting flights are already running.

A look at some winners

A few players locked up some titles over the last week. One of the most-watched events may have been the $10,300 High Roller Championship. In the end, the United Kingdom’s Jonathan Proudfoot battled Christian Rudolph heads-up for the top spot.

Rudolph has more than $5 million in live tournament winnings, but Lightfoot came out ahead in this one. He scored $268,960 for his efforts with Rudolph winning $183,031.

In the $2,100 Six-Max Championship, American online regular Daniel Colpoys was crowned the winner for $167,321. The player from Gloucester, Massachusetts, lives in Mexico and topped a field of 499 players.

In other action, Alexandros Theologis continued a hot streak by winning the WPT500 Knockout for a total of $115,068. In March, he also won the $3,200 Mix-Max event in the partypoker Millions Online for $74,937.

Colpoys also had a nice finish in this event as well, taking third for $75,589 in prize money and bounties.

On the lower buy-in level, Denis Lestin showed how a small buy-in can pay off. The sports physician won the $22 Micro Omaha Championship for $3,362. Some time away from the job has given him more time to play poker.

“I’m on a sabbatical now.,” he told partypoker. “I live outside the city and I’m happy about it. There are very cool methods of healing that I want to master and I am slowly preparing for this since training costs a lot of money, and poker is a great way to earn money without leaving home.”

Player of the Championship still in contention

Along with more tournaments in the mix, the Player of the Championship remains up for grabs. As many as 50 players will earn a share of $50,000.

The overall leaderboard winner also claims a top payout of $10,000. The leaderboard will be decided Sunday, when the $2,100 WPT Turbo Championship plays out with $300,000 guaranteed.

Theologis sat top of the leaderboard as of Thursday with 903 points.

Brazil’s Best: World’s Top Online Player Yuri Dzivielevski Discusses Success, New Role With Partypoker

Brazil's Yuri "theNERDguy" Dzivielevski recently spoke with PokerScout about signing with partypoker and his success on the felt.

It’s been a banner few months for Brazilian online poker players. Rounders from the land of samba and sun have scored massive tournament wins on some of the game’s biggest stages.

As the sixth most-populous country, Brazil represents a growing market apparently with plenty of talent. Partypoker recognizes that and recently announced the signing of Yuri “theNERDguy” Dzivielevski as a site ambassador.

The company didn’t just sign any Brazilian player, Dzivielevski is currently the top-ranked online tournament player in the world. The Brazilian star spoke with PokerScout this week about his poker life and new deal with partypoker.

“It’s a very special moment in my career,” he says. “It will be an honor for me to represent a brand I admire. I am very happy.”

Climbing the poker rankings

Dzivielevski began playing poker after his brother first introduced him to the game. Playing home games with friends became part of his normal routine and he had a knack for the game. His poker skills eventually helped his family out.

After leaving high school, he began making a living from poker to help his parents out. Those early days grinding it out online proved to be some great learning opportunities and his career soon skyrocketed.

He’s one of the most successful poker players in Latin America with online winnings totaling $14 million. That’s a record for any player based in Latin America.

Beyond the virtual felt, the 29-year-old has $1.2 million in live tournament winnings. In 2019 he even added a World Series of Poker bracelet to his trophy case. He took down a $2,500 Mixed Omaha Hi/Lo, Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo event for $213,750.

A year later, the WSOP Online produced another bracelet after Dzivielevski won the $400 PLOSSUS for $221,557. The partypoker signing now becomes another nice bullet point in his career.

“This is a dream come true,” he says. “Joining partypoker is one of the most important achievements in my career and I am very excited to work with them.”

Joining the partypoker crew

Dzivielevski’s Team partypoker signing comes just as WPT World Online Championships are playing out at the site. Along with representing the brand,  he’ll be a regular face on partypoker’s Twitch channel, partypokerTV.

That work includes contributing to daily shows as well as streaming some new content of his own. Additionally, the Brazilian pro will run exclusive streamed tournaments.

In an age when so many online players stream their action, playing on Twitch will be a new experience.

“I actually don’t have a streaming channel, but I’ll be streaming weekly on partypoker Brazil,” he says. “My team and I will work together to give viewers the best possible content and I can’t wait to get started.”

Sharpening his skills

Maintaining a ranking atop the entire world’s pool of online poker talent certainly isn’t easy. How does “theNERDguy” work on his game? It involves less actual play at the tables than one might imagine, but there’s plenty of hitting the books.

“I make sure I have some kind of interaction with poker every day, whether playing or studying,” he says. ”I try to play two to three times a week and study on the other days. I don’t have an exact number of hours that I devote to studying, but I study on demand.”

Working with other poker-playing friends is also a major part of his preparation. He set up a study group with some friends in Brazil. The team splits the work and manages to cover most areas of the game, he says.

When not at the tables, Dzivielevski enjoys spending time with family, studying the Bible, surfing, and going to the gym. Drinking wine and eating some nice meals are also regularly on the menu.

Already with two WSOP bracelets, the WPT World Online Championships now offer another opportunity. He remains confident in his chances during the series, with good reason based on results.

“Winning a WPT title would be amazing,” he says. “In fact, it will be amazing! WPT series are such an important part of poker and I love to watch WPT events on TV, so this would be particularly special for me.

“A lot of good things will come from this partnership with partypoker and I’m sure we will create amazing things together.”

Partypoker Roundup: WPT Rolls On As Brazilians Come Up Big; Main Event Qualifiers Continue

The WPT announced this week that the company’s televised events are now available to millions more players across Europe.

The World Poker Tour’s World Online Championships continue playing out at partypoker through Sept. 14. The WPT500 recently crowned a champion and Brazilians continue to dominate the series.

The Seven-Max Championship also paid out a winner and more main event qualifiers are in the works. Here’s a look at some highlights from the series over the last week.

Championship winners named this week

Two big winners were crowned in the series over the last few days. Brazil’s Eder Campana took first in the $2,100 buy-in WPT Seven-Max Championship on Monday, topping a field of 489 players.

Campana scored a total payout of $169,957 in the progressive knockout (PKO) event.

In the $530 WPT500 on Tuesday, Brazilian player Pedro Cavalieri took the victory for a total payout of $153,503. He beat a field of 2,295 entries to take the largest share of a $1.1 million prize pool.

All nine finalists secured at least $13,212 and when heads-up, Cavalieri agreed a deal with Austria’s Thomas Hueber. Cavalieri claimed an extra $10,000 along with the title.

The final table was streamed live on partypoker’s Twitch channel, partypokerTV.

A look at some other winners so far

A few more players rose to the top over the last couple weeks. In the $225 Opener, Brazil’s Luiz Orrico came out on top for $93,752.

The event produced 4,777 entries with another Brazilian, Luiz Zattar Martins Jr., finishing runner-up for $68,727. Those numbers include prize payouts and bounties from the PKO event.

Brazilians have seen some major success in online tournament series in recent weeks. That now continues at partypoker with three of the top five spots in the Opener going to players from the land of samba and sun.

A Brazilian player also won the $22 Mini Opener. Ricardo Oliveira Barreto took home $17,424 for taking the title. In the $1,050 WPT Grand (Phase Final), American Elio Fox found the winner’s circle for $58,837. The event attracted 307 entries for a  prize pool of $308,994.

Team partypoker members found some winnings in this one as well. Isaac Haxton took sixth for $10,864 and Jaime Staples finished 11th for $4,912.

In the $215 WPT Super, Duarte Ranhada Da Cunha Afonso took the title for $15,000. In the $320 version, Ihar Tsaryk of Belarus won a combined $21,100 for his efforts.

The week ahead

Plenty of action remains in the week ahead with some major events still on tap. Two starting flights remain in the $5,300 Main Event, running Sept. 5 and 12.

The championship event comes with a $5 million guarantee and Day 2 is set for Sept. 13 and the final one day later.  The first starting flight ran last Sunday with Hungary’s Andras Nemeth finishing as chip leader. A total of 59 players moved on to Day 2.

Some high rollers and huge guarantees are also ahead in the final two weeks. Here’s a look at a few big remaining events:

  • $2,100 Six-Max Championship (PKO) – Sept. 4-6, $1 million guaranteed
  • $25,500 Super High Roller Championship – Sept. 5, $1 million guaranteed
  • $2,100 Mix-Max Championship (PKO) – Sept. 11-12, $1 million guaranteed
  • $2,100 Turbo Championship – Sept. 12-13, $200,000 guaranteed

Still time to qualify for WPT Main Event

Players of all bankrolls still have the chance to get in the championship event. Centroll feeder satellites continue daily and another mega satellite is planned for Sunday.

Centrolls award at least 15 tickets to the $4.40 buy-in Phase 1. Players making their way through that stage go into the $22 buy-in Phase 2.

That’s followed by the $109 Phase 3, which leads into the weekly final. Players can also buy into the $530 mega satellite directly, awarding as many as 50 tickets.

Some Team partypoker pros have already secured seats via satellite. Jeff Gross won his place after entering the satellite tree at Phase 3. He’s currently running a promotion giving away a qualifying opportunity as well.

Jaime Staples also qualified for the WPT Mini Main Event via the satellite route. The $1,050 Mini and $109 Micro run concurrently with the Main Event, guaranteeing $1 million and $300,000 respectively.

Partypoker WPT Roundup: More Satellite Seats, Player of Series Cash, Big Winners So Far

The World Poker Tour is heading to France and Italy next year as the company announced three stops in the countries for 2023 last week.

The WPT World Online Championships Main Event kicks off this week at partypoker. The site is now giving even more players the chance to participate through the weekly mega satellite final.

The series runs through Sept. 14 with the $5,300 Main Event comes with a $5 million guarantee. Day 1A plays out on  Sunday with starting flights continuing for the next two Sundays. Day 2 is set for Sept. 13 with the final two days on Sept. 14-15.

Along with adding additional satellite seats, partypoker has also announced some nice cash up for grabs for the Player of the Championships. Here’s a look at some of the news surrounding the series.

Partypoker adds 50 extra satellite tickets

The WOCs offer players of all bankrolls the opportunity to qualify. Partypoker recently added even more qualifying opportunities with $0.01 feeder satellites running daily and satellite finals held every Sunday.

The centrolls award at least 15 tickets to the $4.40 buy-in Phase 1. Players making their way through that stage go into the $22 buy-in Phase 2. That’s followed by the $109 Phase 3.

This leads into the weekly final. Players can choose which phase best suits their bankroll and can also buy into the weekly final directly for $530.

This week, the number of Day 1A tickets given away has increased to as many as 50. This gives more players the chance to compete in the series’ highlight.

Team partypoker’s Jeff Gross is one of many who have claimed a Main Event entry via satellite. He won his spot in the tournament after entering at Phase 3.

“The satellites for major events on partypoker have always provided some of the best value in online poker,” Gross said in a news release. “This WPT series is no different, with a variety of phase entry points. I was fortunate enough to grab my seat from the $109 phase and can’t wait to play in the Main Event.”

Extras for the partypoker WOC champion

On top of the large cash prize, the new WOC champion scores some additional rewards. That includes:

  • name engraved on Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup
  • replica of the WPT trophy
  • Hublot watch
  • entry into the WPT Champions Club

Mini and Micro versions of the tournament also run concurrently with the WPT Main Event. The Mini comes with a $1,050 buy-in and a $1 million guarantee. The $109 Micro features a $300,000 guarantee.

The Main Event and other key events will be live-streamed on partypokerTV, partypoker’s Twitch channel.

Player of series pays out $50K

Beyond the added satellites, partypoker also announced prizes for the WPT Player of the Championships leaderboard.

As many as 50 players will share $50,000 in cash prizes. The overall winner claiming the top payout of $10,000.

Players earn points by cashing in WOC events. Even finishing in the standings earns a player at least $100.

Sonnert wins WPT Omaha Championship

At the tables, several events are already in the books. Sweden’s Bengt Sonnert took down the $2,100 WPT Omaha Championship on Monday for $71,239.

A total of 24 players reached Day 2, including Team partypoker’s Joao Simao, who finished ninth. He recently spoke with PokerScout about the series and his poker life.

Sonnert eventually beat Denmark’s Patrick Hyllegaard heads-up to claim the title. Hyllegaard scored $49,032 for runner-up.

Sergiy Yashchur took down the first event of the series, the WPT Pro Hunt.

Sergiy Yashchur wins WPT Pro Hunt

The $33 WPT Pro Hunt kicked off the series this year. Sergiy Yashchur topped a field of 1,374 players to take the title for $5,340.

The event topped the guarantee for a prize pool of $41,220. Along with his winnings, the Ukrainian banked a free $5,300 seat into the WOC Main Event.

Yashchur is something of a freeroll and low-stakes specialist. He’s a regular tournament ticket winner for larger buy-in events. It was a bit out of the norm for Yashchur to play in an event like the Pro Hunt. The win added to quite a successful week.

“I found out about this tournament about 10 days before it started,” he told partypoker. “Prior to this tournament, I had only played three tournaments that week; one of which was the Double Jab at partypoker.

“I had free tickets for all three tournaments, and I reached the final table of all three! After that, I decided to play the WPT Pro Hunt and made it a streak of four final tables in a row.”

After reaching the final table, Yashchur overcame a 2-to-1 chip deficit heads-up against Laust Mejer Nielsen. To complete the victory, he called all in with a flush draw against Nielsen’s two pair.

“I was in a stupor for a couple of minutes before running to wake my wife,” Yashchur says. “Her first words were to ask what currency my prize money was in! Neither of us could sleep. Instead of celebrating the next day, we decided to simply go to the river with our children for a day out in town.”
