The Platinum Pass parade continues for PokerStars and the site announced plans for even more chances to win on Thursday. As the PokerStars Players Championship (PSPC) approaches, the company revealed three more live events with coveted $30,000 passes up for grabs.

October and November offer new opportunities for players in France, Romania, and Brazil. A Platinum Pass offers winners a complete travel package for the PSPC.

The $25,000 buy-in event is planned for the Bahamas in January as part of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. Stars also announced opportunities for online poker players to win their way into the new PSPC events.

A look at the new PokerStars Road to PSPC Platinum Pass events

Players looking to grab a Platinum Pass have a few events to watch out for in Europe and South America. The first event is set for Oct. 10-16 at the Poker Room Bucharest in Romania.

The €400 Main Event also runs Oct. 12-16, with €150,000 guaranteed with a pass on the line as well. The schedule also features numerous side events planned.

PokerStars then heads to Club Circus Paris for the final Road to PSPC event in France. The tournament runs from Nov. 8-13 with the €400 Main Event also on those dates. Other side events are also planned.

The Platinum Pass action then heads to the land of samba and sun for the Brazilian Series of Poker, which runs Nov. 14-26 in São Paulo. The R$1,000 Road to PSPC BSOP Millions runs Nov. 14-17 with a Mystery Bounty format.

A Platinum Pass will be added to the prize pool and hidden in one of the envelopes awarded to players who eliminate another player. The tournament also includes a R$2 million ($382,000) guarantee.

Online satellite opportunities

PokerStars is also offering online players a shot at playing in these events at a lower price point. Players Choice satellites are running nightly on the .COM, .EU, French, and Spanish platforms.

Italian players will find these running three times per week as well. Players in Latin America can jump in Road to PSPC BSOP Millions standalone satellites, starting at just $11.

More Platinum Passes awarded

Stars has run several live events for Platinum Passes throughout the year. Recent events played out in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Spain. More international events are planned in the coming months too.

The site also recently awarded Italy’s Giada Fang with a pass after she won a single-table as part of an International Women’s Day promotion.

PokerStars USA also recently outlined opportunities for online players in that country as well. The platform is available in the states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New Jersey.

COOP coming to Ontario

With a new platform in Ontario, PokerStars is also bringing the company’s popular Championship of Online Poker (COOP) brand to the market.

The Ontario Championship of Online Poker (ONCOOP) becomes the first major online championship series for Stars players in the state. The series is set for Oct. 1-17 with more details coming soon.

POKER PODIUM: A Look at Big August Live & Online Winners

August saw some big winners across the live and online poker world and here's a look at a few hitting it big.

Plenty of action continues for online and live players in the coming weeks on the international poker scene. August saw some big winners across the spectrum and that included some massive wins at the PokerStars European Poker Tour Barcelona stop.

A PartyPoker ambassador had a nice run as well with more bracelet winners also finding nice payouts at GGPoker. Day 1 in the 888poker ChampionChip Games also brought some nice scores in the low roller series. Poker Podium once again takes a look at some major poker winners.

PokerStars

The European Poker Tour Barcelona was a huge event in August for PokerStars attracting record numbers for the Main Event. The festival ran from Aug. 8-21 at Casino Barcelona.

The  €5,300 Main Event brought in 2,294 entries with 1,686 unique players for a €11.1 million prize pool. Italy’s Giuliano Bendinelli found the top spot for €1.5 million. He came back to win after being down to a single big blind at one point.

Online poker regular Mikita Badziakouski scored the win in the €100,000 Super High Roller for €2 million. The event saw 68 entries, 16 re-entries, and a €6.6 million prize pool. American poker pro and Hall of Famer Erik Seidel scored second place for €1.3 million.

PokerStars ambassador and Twitch streamer Mason Pye scored a nice win as well in Barcelona. He took down the €550 HORSE for €17,290. Pye added a SCOOP title in April and now has an EPT title to go along with it.

Online qualifier heads to EPT for only $5

Ireland’s Jenny Steele also recorded a motivational story for online poker players in August. The recreational player earned a seat into the EPT Main Event for only $5.

“I said, I really want to play in the EPT Main Event,” Steele told the PokerStars blog. “So I played a fiver satellite, and won into the next round, which was €55. I played the €55, won that one, into the €530. Played the €530 and won that one. All in one night.”

Steele and her husband run a printing business back in Ireland. Both are regular players as well and are always working on their skills.

“Me and my husband are a good tag team, he helps me and I help him,” she said. “But I’m better.”

Buy-ins range from $5.50 to $25,000 and the schedule also includes 12 World Championship events. For a complete preview and schedule of the series, click here.

PartyPoker

One PartyPoker ambassador made some waves recently in the recent McLaren Turbo Series. Twitch streamer Jaime Staples made two final tables in a single weekend.

While he didn’t find the winner’s circle, Staples scored fourth in the $109 Seven-Max Weekender for $4,436. He then went on to take sixth in the $55 Daily Sprint for $710.

Staples followed that up Monday with a third-place finish in the $320 Grand Prix as well for a $11,786 win.

In the Grand Prix Summer Series, Brazil’s Lucas Alves found the top spot in the $109 Main Event.

Two other Brazilian players also made final table appearances. The event brought in 765 entries for a $521,000 prize pool.

The action at PartyPoker now turns to the upcoming Millions Online, which kicks off Thursday. Millions has become one of the biggest series in online poker and runs Sept. 1-27. Look for several tournament formats including six-max, seven-max, eight-max, progressive knockouts (PKO), and more.

The $3,200 Main Event highlights the series and comes with a $2 million guarantee. The first Main Event starting flight is set for Sept. 4. For a complete preview and schedule for the series , click here.

GGPoker

The World Series of Poker Online continues at GG from Aug. 14 – Sept. 27. So far 12 winners have been crowned with the biggest win coming in the $1,500 Millionaire Maker. The tournament brought in  4,706 entries for a $6.7 million prize pool.

Markus Prinz came out on top for a massive $1.2 million payday. The founder of DTOPoker training site locked up one of the biggest wins of his career on Monday.

The second largest winner’s payout came in the $5,000 Six-Handed Championship, which brought in 430 entries for a $2 million prize pool. Daniele Sesta came out on top for $400,213.

Many eyes were also on the Million Dollar Mystery Bounty. “PH14” came out on top for $367,953, but the bigger prize went to one lucky bounty winner.

Two-time bracelet winner Scott “ItsRumcake” Ball had the lucky draw for a cool million bucks. It took a bit for Ball to realize how big he’d actually won.

Look for more winners later in the week in PokerScout’s next WSOP Online update. For a complete preview of the series, click here.

Giada Fang Grabs Platinum Pass in Special PokerStars Women’s Tournament at EPT Barcelona

After a two-year delay, the PokerStars Women’s Platinum Pass tournament played out last week with Italy’s Giada Fang coming out on top.

After a two-year delay because of COVID-19, the PokerStars Women’s Platinum Pass tournament finally played out last week at the European Poker Tour stop in Barcelona. In the end, Italy’s Giada Fang came out on top for one of the most coveted poker prizes.

A Platinum Pass is valued at $30,000 and includes a complete trip for two to the Bahamas in January. That includes a $25,000 buy-in to the PokerStars Players Championship (PSPC).

“I just can’t wait to fly to the Bahamas!” Fang said as PokerStars commentator Joe Stapleton and ambassador Jennifer Shahade presented her with the prize.

A look at the PokerStars Platinum Pass winner

The winner-take-all women’s event turned into a major part of EPT Barcelona with PokerStars streaming the entire tournament. Fang (pictured in lead image) made an interesting life change prior to playing poker. She left behind a career in medicine to become a full-time player.

“I never regretted my change,” she said in her post-tournament interview. “I loved being a doctor and surgeon, but that’s something I can always go back to. Now that I’m still young and can travel, and I love playing poker, I decided to make poker my career. I definitely don’t regret it.”

At the live tables, Fang has more than $53,000 in live tournament winnings. She also works as a poker commentator and has achieved European female Supernova Elite status online. Fang now serves as a PokerStars ambassador and also streams her action on Twitch.

Now with a Platinum Pass in hand, Fang has six months to prepare for what should be one of the biggest events on the 2023 poker calendar.

Inspirational women take part

The original idea for the Platinum Pass competition saw poker fans nominate inspirational women for the event. Seven made the trip to Casino Barcelona for the tournament.

This final table was two years in the making, with finalists selected in 2020 as part of International Women’s Day. PokerStars asked for nominations of women who made an impact on the poker community. The winner was to take home a Platinum Pass, which awards:

  • $25,000 PSPC buy-in
  • six nights’ hotel accommodation for winner and a guest
  • airport transfers
  • $1,900 in expenses
  • exclusive winner experiences

“Our record-breaking event in Barcelona was the perfect setting to bring some of poker’s amazing women together and shine a spotlight on them,” PokerStars director of partnerships and consumer engagement Rebecca McAdam Willetts said in a news release.

“We are committed to making sure our online and live tables are a comfortable, fun, and inclusive space for everyone to compete on a level playing ground.”

Highlighting female players

Nine finalists were eventually selected and 28 months later, the special tournament was on in Barcelona. Along with Fang, the finalists included:

  • Davia Bryne – Poker pro and founder of FLIP (Fantastic Ladies in Poker), the largest female-only poker community on Facebook.
  • Christina Read – Founder of the Poker Queens women’s poker group. The forum supports fellow female players in the industry through providing tips, advice, and mentoring.
  • Meichelle Culhane – Volunteer poker teacher for senior citizens at the Broken Arrow Senior Activity Center in Oklahoma.
  • Terry Hatcher – Founder of a weekly Monday night PokerStars Home Games ladies tournament. All proceeds, $30,000 to date, go toward female non-profit charities.
  • Lexi Sterner – The nurse and poker player fell in love with the game following some tragic family news at a young age. That helped shape her into the person she is today.
  • Aurelie Reard – A former audio-visual engineer, Reard has played professionally for nine years in tournaments  around the globe. She’s also committed herself to promoting female players in the industry.

Qualifiers were pleased to have an opportunity to compete for such a big poker prize.

“When I found out, I was so surprised and overwhelmed by the support,” Byrne recently told PokerScout. “To be part of the top nine, you needed to have so many votes and the kind validation from the community means so much to me. Knowing that people appreciate what you do encourages me even more to work harder to achieve more equality at the tables and higher female representation in the poker industry as a whole.”

Finalists Jan Fisher and Katie Stone couldn’t make the trip, but received Road to PSPC tournament packages instead. The entire tournament took three and a half hours. Here’s a look at where each player finished.

‘World Championship’ Events Added to PokerStars WCOOP; Series Guarantees $85 Million

WCOOP is back for a 21st year at PokerStars and runs Sept. 4-28 with 104 events, $85 million guaranteed, and new World Championship events.

One of the biggest and longest-running online poker series returns in September. PokerStars announced on Monday that the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) is back for a 21st year and runs Sept. 4-28.

The series is one of the most anticipated on the tournament calendar and now adds to an already-packed online poker schedule in August and September.

Players will find $85 million in guaranteed prize pools across 104 events. That again includes Low, Medium, and High buy-in levels ranging from $5.50 to $25,000. PokerStars has also added “World Championship” events to this year’s series as well, ramping up the series’ prestige even more.

“WCOOP has long been the pinnacle of online tournament series and with the addition of World Championship events we are looking to elevate the prestige of winning a WCOOP title event further,” PokerStars director of online poker experience Chris Straghalis said in a news release.

“Not only are we offering a wide variety of buy-ins to provide a way for virtually anyone who desires to participate in a WCOOP event, we also offer the most formats and variants in online poker with a choice of mixed games that are unique to PokerStars.”

PokerStars adding more to WCOOP

Players jumping in the WCOOP action will find a wide range of events and tournament styles. Some No Limit Hold’em options include: progressive knockout (PKO), heads-up, and six-max. Other tournament options include HORSE, Badugi, Pot Limit Omaha, eight-game mix, and more.

This year, players will also find 12 World Championship events competitors to become world champions of a specific poker discipline.

That includes a $10,300 World Championship NLHE Main Event with a $6 million guarantee. In total, Stars is offering six Main Events on Sept. 25 with over $14 million guaranteed including two World Championship events in NLHE and PLO. Here’s a look at all the major events just on Sept. 25 alone.

  • 92-L: $109 NLHE Main Event – $2.5 million guaranteed
  • 92-M: $1,050 NLHE Main Event, $4 million guaranteed
  • 92-H: $10,300 World Championship of NLHE – $6 million guaranteed
  • 94-L: $109 PLO Main Event – $250,000 guaranteed
  • 94-M: $1,050 PLO Main Event, $600,000 guaranteed
  • WCOOP 94-H: $10,300 World Championship of PLO – $1 million guaranteed

Players looking to win a World Championship will also find several other poker variants including: NLHE PKO, HORSE, PLO Hi/Lo, Badugi, Razz, and several others.

Even more planned for WCOOP

Following on from this year’s SCOOP, the WCOOP also sees the first official WCOOP women’s event. That tournament is set for Sept. 25 with a combined guaranteed prize pool of $38,000 across the three buy-in levels.

A World Championship women’s event is also planned for Sept. 18 with a $530 buy-in and $65,000 guarantee.

Stars is once again offering WCOOP leaderboards throughout the series. Players can battle for the Player of the Series title in Low, Medium, High, and Overall leaderboards. The standings come with an extra $100,000 in cash prizes for winners.

All WCOOP winners will receive a trophy, including larger versions for Main Event and leaderboard winners. Also new for 2022, a special trophy is planned for World Championship winners.

Satellites and freerolls a big part of the series

There are plenty of ways players can win their way into WCOOP. Fast Track satellites award tournament seats every day from Aug. 15 – Sept. 25. These include Main Event seats worth $10,300 and players can win a seat starting at just $0.50. The satellites offer a total of $100,000 in added value.

Special WCOOP Spin & Go’s will also award Main Event entries, other tournament tickets, and cash prizes. Those buy-ins start at just $0.50.

Stars is also hosting a Champions Freeroll on Sept. 4 for last year’s WCOOP champions with a chance to win a $10,300 NLHE Main Event seat. The freeroll offers $50,000 in tournament seats up for grabs. Here’s a look at the entire WCOOP schedule.

‘Red Spade Pass’ Brazil Formula One Experience Now On the Line at PokerStars, EPT Barcelona

PokerStars is hitting the gas on even more promotional power with Red Spade Passes now on the line for the Brazilian Grand Prix.

As the Formula One season moves into its second half, PokerStars is hitting the gas on even more promotional power with the company’s Oracle Red Bull Racing partnership.

Stars announced the latest way for fans to grab a Red Spade Pass for the Brazil Grand Prix on Wednesday.

The promotion rewards winners with the ultimate fan experience at Brazil’s iconic Interlagos Grand Prix circuit. The opportunity is available exclusively for PokerStars players.

“Our aim is to give our community epic moments that they will never forget,” Stars director of partnerships, public relations, and consumer engagement Rebecca McAdam Willets said in a news release.

“Together, PokerStars and Oracle Red Bull Racing want to bring entertainment to all of our fans and players, and this season we’ve seen some fantastic moments both on and off the track. As our partnership continues to grow, we’re looking forward to bringing even more unique experiences to the PokerStars communities.”

What’s included in a PokerStars Red Spade Pass?

Those lucky enough to score a Red Spade Pass are in for a major racing experience. The trip includes three days at the Brazil Grand Prix as well as:

  • flights
  • five night’s accommodation in Sao Paulo
  • exclusive activities and guest appearances
  • a personalized message from an Oracle Red Bull Racing driver
  • PokerStars and Oracle Red Bull Racing merchandise

The winners also receive some nice prizes on the poker and gaming side of the deal as well. That includes a session with a PokerStars Learn coach. They’ll also land some offers and tickets from Stars, PokerStars Casino, and PokerStars Sports. Those prizes include:

  • $109 Sunday Million buy-in
  • $250/€250 in sports bets
  • $250 in casino spins

How to win an Formula One experience

The first Red Spade Pass is awarded at PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona in the €3,000 Platinum Pass Mystery Bounty. The tour is adding the pass to the prize pool, hidden in one of the bounty envelopes awarded to players.

Bounties begin on Day 2, with the event running through Aug. 19. The poker site and online casino will award additional passes, with new ways to win announced soon.

EPT Barcelona is now underway and runs through Aug. 21. Along with the Red Spade Pass, three coveted $30,000 Platinum Passes will also be rewarded.

To celebrate the season getting underway, the first Red Spades awarded winners with a four-day all-expenses paid trip for two to Nice, France, and Monaco for the Monaco Grand Prix. Winners followed the action from PokerStars’ private luxury waterside location, overlooking the famous track.

PokerStars announced two new Red Bull Formula One racing promotions begin Sunday and also signed football star Ronaldo as an ambassador.

The site also launched a season-long program of race weekend rewards encouraging fans and players to “Embrace the Race.” From big-money casino drops to Formula One-themed freerolls, the prizes reward fans for their support of the Oracle Red Bull Racing team.

The Embrace the Race prizes also get a major boost if Oracle Red Bull takes the top spot on the podium. PokerStars announced the multi-year F1 partnership earlier this year. The deal calls for Stars branding on the RB18 car and race suits.

PokerStars hopes to attract more online poker players from F1’s growing audience. The company launched several initiatives to provide players and fans with new and unique ways to enjoy the sport.

The Showdown is a home-game style tournament with a £5,300 EPT London Main Event ticket as the  top prize.

A few of the players in the mix include Team PokerStars streamers Lex Veldhuis and Ben “Spraggy” Spragg. PokerStars’ commentator and comedian Joe “Stapes” Stapleton will also be part of the action.

Along with that news, PokerStars also recently detailed a special event for several women to compete for a Platinum Pass. The company also finalized the EPT Barcelona streaming schedule.

Plenty of ‘Showdown’ fun ahead at PokerStars

As part of the home game action, Davis and the other players in the table engage in plenty of discussion throughout the event. This isn’t a high roller affair where there is little table banter.

Davis works to make the action fun with plenty of entertaining chit-chat at the table. The tournament will stream on the True Geordie and PokerStars Twitch channels for poker fans around the world. The Stars YouTube channel will also feature the event. Those in the tournament area can also check out the action live.

Here's a look at some of the news from PokerStars including Parker Talbot and the Big 20 Rewind, True Geordie's recent live event, and more.

“I am incredibly proud to take our premier poker talk show The Showdown on the road this August where we will be broadcasting live from Barcelona,” True Geordie said in a news release. “Enabling our fans from around the world to come and see the show in person is something we’ve dreamt of doing and we can’t wait to bring social poker to Spain.”

From Newcastle, England, Davis got his start by releasing videos of his opinions on his hometown Newcastle United Football Club. His channel and platform have since grown to include his True Geordie Podcast and True News reaction videos.

Davos also hosts a weekly football live stream called The Kick Off. His media presence has also expanded to include poker streams on occasion as well.

Special tournament for inspiring female poker players set for Barcelona

Beyond the tournament action and True Geordie stream, Stars is also hosting another special event. Several female poker players from around the world head to Barcelona to play live in a special single-table tournament. These competitors will compete for a Platinum Pass and include:

  • Daiva Byrne – (Lithuania; now Manchester, United Kingdom)
  • Giada Shiyan Fang (Malta)
  • Aurélie Reard – (Paris, France; now Cardiff, Wales)
  • Christina Read (Georgia)
  • Katie Stone (New Jersey)
  • Lexi Sterner (Florida)
  • Meichelle Culhane (Oklahoma)
  • Terri Hatcher (Texas)

A Platinum Pass is valued at $30,000 and includes an entry and complete travel package to the $25,000 PokerStars Players Championship (PSPC) poker tournament next year in the Bahamas.

The women won a spot into the Barcelona event as part of Stars’ International Women’s Day activities in 2020. Poker players nominated inspirational women in poker as part of the promotion.

However, the PSPC was delayed because of the COVID pandemic but is now going forward in the Bahamas in 2023. PokerStars will stream the event on Aug. 15 (see more on that below).
