PokerStars Adds German Pro Benjamin Rolle, Deal With ‘Raise Your Edge’ Training Site

PokerStars announced the signing of German poker pro Benjamin “BenCB” Rolle to its roster of poker ambassadors on Friday.

Fresh off adding Argentinian freestyle rapper Papo MC, PokerStars announced another signing on Friday. German poker pro Benjamin “BenCB” Rolle now joins the site’s roster of poker ambassadors and will also be a key poker training addition.

Rolle is no stranger to success on the site and holds WCOOP and SCOOP titles. Beyond his skills at the tables, he’s also the founder of the Raise Your Edge training site. He now adds a PokerStars sponsorship deal to his poker resumé as well.

“I’m thrilled to be working alongside PokerStars to continue to find ways to positively impact the future of online poker,” Rolle said in a news release. “Working together with PokerStars, I’ll be able to work on new content and become even more creative when trying to introduce more players to the game.

“I am very excited and grateful for this opportunity. I see it as a great responsibility to represent PokerStars, to remain a voice of the community, and act as a bridge between them and the platform.”

From successful poker player to well-known poker coach to PokerStars ambassador

Rolle has seen many online poker successes. He won the 2014 SCOOP (Spring Championship of Online Poker) main event for more than $250,000. In 2016, he added a WCOOP (World Championship of Online Poker) Super High Roller title for more than $1.2 million.

At the Sit & Go tables, Rolle was among the top 10 in 2013 and 2014, according to SharkScope. He also placed first in 2015 in the rankings.

Since 2019, Rolle has served poker players through his coaching and streaming on his Twitch channel. As part of his new role with PokerStars, he’ll be streaming his action on the site regularly.

“Ben is arguably one of the world’s top multi-table tournament players and has been crushing high stakes for many years,” PokerStars associate director of communities and partnerships Scott Goodall said.

“On top of that, he and his amazing team at Raise Your Edge have built up and supported a huge community through education, engagement, and a passion to not only play but to learn the game that we all love in a safe environment.”

Raise Your Edge also part of the deal

The signing aligns with PokerStars’ new partnership with Raise Your Edge. The deal with the coaching site goes live next month.

In recent years, more online poker platforms are seeing the benefits of teaming up with poker strategy platforms. Several other operators also have deals in place.

Rolle, Raise Your Edge, and PokerStars will team up to help current and new players improve their game through:

  • exclusive content
  • live training
  • courses to improve poker strategy

PokerStars will reveal more details about the Raise Your Edge partnership in the coming weeks.

“Working with Ben and Raise Your Edge, PokerStars will be able to provide top standard content and gain valuable feedback and input from Ben, the RYE community, as well as our existing ambassadors and partners, to ensure we can continuously improve and provide the best experience for all our players and communities,” Goodall added.

“This partnership is something we are all very excited about here at PokerStars.”

PokerStars Twitch Lineup Expands With Addition of Rapper Papo MC to Free-Play Platform

PokerStars has added rap freestyler, poker player, and Twitch streamer Papo MC as an ambassador to the site's free-to-play platform.

Twitch remains a key focus for PokerStars and the site added to its streaming roster again over the weekend. The site announced the addition of rap freestyler and poker player Papo MC (aka Alejandro Andres Lococo).

Unlike most of the site’s Twitch streamers, Lococo will be showcasing his play on the free-to-play PokerStars.net site.

The company and the rapper have formed “an exciting new partnership focused on bringing his passion for poker to life with engaging and entertaining content,” PokerStars noted in a news release.

Rap game to poker game

Jumping in the poker action is nothing new for Papo MC, who streams about various topics on his Twitch channel. He’ll now add online poker to that mix.

“Today is a big day for me, I feel very proud to wear the PokerStars.net patch,” Papo said of partnering with the company. “It’s a big step in my career, a partnership that will leave its mark.

“This is the place every poker player dreams to be. We are going to work to take poker to a whole new level. See you all at the tables.”

Lococo’s love for the game began in 2016, when he started playing the live poker circuit in his home country of Argentina. In five years, his interest in the game has grown into a passion.

What I enjoy most about poker is the different emotions that you experience while playing,” Papo told PokerScout this week. “Beyond this, poker has helped me get to know wonderful people and visit wonderful places. It’s given me great friends and amazing stories.”

Since beginning his music career in 2011, Papo MC is now one of the most recognizable freestylers in Latin America. His resumé includes winning Batalla de los Gallos in Argentina.

The show is a competition among the best freestylers in the Spanish-speaking world. Lococo also represented his country in the international competition in 2016.

Along with adding another streamer, his presence allows PokerStars to reach a young Spanish-speaking demographic. The company continues to focus on expansion and reaching potential players who may be new to poker.

What to expect from the partnership

PokerStars says fans can look forward to seeing plenty of exciting content following the partnership. That includes Papo’s Talk Show, a monthly home game featuring his friends, including freestylers, influencers, and celebrities.

Plans call for Papo to also host monthly play money poker streams on Twitch. Fans and members of his community can also jump in regular freerolls he hosts on the platform.

Papo will also explore PokerStars.net VR (virtual reality) and invite friends to participate in challenges on his YouTube channel. The free site also allows Lococo to show newer players how to play.

“We have very funny ideas that we will go live with soon, from educational content to poker games in VR with incredible guests and some other surprises,” he said.

What sets Papo’s stream apart from others?

“I think it’s the transparency in everything that is said and done,” he said. “When I start a stream, it feels like talking or playing with my friends. Instead of looking into their eyes, I look to the camera. People can tell I have a great time doing it.”

PokerStars.net isn’t a gambling site and doesn’t provide an opportunity to win real money. The games are intended for players 18 and up for amusement purposes only.

PokerStars Releases Full WCOOP Schedule; New Trophies, $1 Million In Giveaways Planned

The 20th edition of PokerStars’ WCOOP concluded last Wednesday and produced the biggest version ever with $126.5 million paid out to players.

Less than two weeks remain until the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) kicks off at PokerStars. The site released the official schedule for the series on Monday with 102 events set for Aug. 22 to Sept. 15.

PokerStars is celebrating the 20th edition of the series this year with more than $100 million guaranteed, the largest ever. WCOOP also promises $1 million up for grabs in promotional giveaways to add to the series.

“WCOOP is part of the PokerStars legacy,” PokerStars managing director of poker Severin Rasset said in a news release. “It’s where our community can battle to be a part of history and become a world champion in poker.

“This is the 20th edition of WCOOP and this year we’ve got our biggest WCOOP guarantee to date at $100 million, unique trophies for the champions, and so many different ways for players to qualify, including our Road to WCOOP promotion and 50/50 WCOOP Series up and running right now.”

PokerStars WCOOP highlights

This year marks WCOOP payouts reaching $1 billion since its inception. The Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) also reached that earlier this year.

When WCOOP cranks up, players will find Low, Medium, and High buy-in levels, ranging from $5.50 to $25,000. Several tournament types are also planned for players of all skills, levels, and bankrolls.

Players will also find six main events on Sept. 12 with over $16 million guaranteed. Those events include:

  • 91-L: $55 NLHE – $1.5 million guaranteed
  • 91-M: $530 NLHE – $2.5 million guaranteed
  • 91-H: $5,200 NLHE – $10 million guaranteed
  • 92-L: $109 Pot Limit Omaha 6-Max – $275,000 guaranteed
  • 92-M: $1,050 PLO 6-Max – $750,000 guaranteed
  • 92-H: $10,300 PLO 6-Max – $1 million guaranteed

Added value for series

This year’s WCOOP features the introduction of newly-designed winners’ trophies. Two types of trophies will be up for grabs.

The first style is awarded to Main Event winners and the overall Player of the Series. The second goes to High, Medium, and Low event winners and each of those Player of the Series champions.

PokerStars has also added $1 million in value through other promotions including:

  • WCOOP leaderboards – Players can battle it out on the Low, Medium, High, and Overall leaderboards. Stars has put up $100,000 in cash prizes for winners.
  • WCOOP Fast Track – WCOOP seats will be awarded every day through Sept. 12. These include Main Event seats worth $5,200 and players can win a seat from just $1. Satellite events add another $100,000 in value to the mix.
  • WCOOP Ticket Machine – This promotion awards $750,000 from Aug. 23 to Sept. 13 including at least two main event seats each day. Players must take part in a WCOOP event to be entered into a daily drawing for a chance to win.
  • Invitational Freeroll – All 2020 WCOOP champions are invited to play in an exclusive invitational freeroll on Sept. 22. The tournament awards 10 Main Event High tickets.
  • Spin & Go’s – These WCOOP special events start at just $4 and award WCOOP Main Event entries, tickets, and cash prizes.
  • Limited edition WCOOP merchandise – The first 1,000 players who qualify for the WCOOP Main Event Low win limited edition merchandise. This promotion is only open to .EU players.

The Road to WCOOP promotion is awarding $1 million worth of series tickets until Aug. 21. The 50/50 WCOOP Series also runs through Aug. 15 with $7.5 million in guaranteed prize money. All event winners earn a $5,200 Main Event entry. Here’s a look at the complete schedule.

PokerStars Roundup: Wheeling Into Formula 1, WCOOP Dates Announced, BSOP Sets Records

PokerStars recently announced a new Formula 1 racing partnership as well as the dates and guarantee for the upcoming WCOOP series.

While it may be synonymous with poker, PokerStars will now become a regular part of Formula 1 racing. The company recently announced a deal that will see the brand highlighted on European broadcasts of the open-wheel racing circuit.

Beyond that deal, Stars also announced the official dates for the 2021 World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP). The news comes after the series recently announced the MicroMillions series in several markets.

The Brazilian Series of Poker also recently wrapped up and scored a record turnout. Here’s a look at some of the items making news at PokerStars.

PokerStars gets the green flag in F1 deal

Flutter International, the owner of PokerStars, announced a new deal this week with Interregional Sports Group (ISG) and Formula 1. The partnership will see the PokerStars brand featured exclusively throughout the European broadcast market for each season through 2023

ISG is a global leader in using virtual advertising technologies to help brands target specific regional sports fans.

Company officials believe combining Stars’ worldwide appeal and this targeted approach make this an exciting partnership for both brands. That could lead to further innovation in the future.

“Working with Formula 1 provides us with the opportunity to reach a fan base whose passion for sport goes way beyond motorsport,” PokerStars group marketing director Tom Warren said in a news release. “To be able to engage an audience of this size and yet focus just on the regions that are key to us makes this a very exciting proposition.”

Company officials note that PokerStars Sports customers are actively engaged in Formula 1 and this season is no different. Visibility among F1 fans offers the operator a chance at reaching new and existing customers.

“We’re delighted to have reached this agreement with Flutter Group,” ISG CEO Tony Ragan said. “Combining the worldwide appeal of PokerStars and this targeted approach in engaging fans with many similar traits as the PokerStars’ community is an incredible opportunity for innovation and further engagement between the two popular brands.”

 WCOOP coming soon

On Wednesday, PokerStars also confirmed the dates for the upcoming World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP). The series has become one of the most prestigious series in online poker and is set for Aug. 22 to Sept. 15.

Players can expect an overall guarantee of $100 million – the series’ biggest guarantee ever. Last year’s series awarded $99.9 million, exceeding the original $80 million guarantee.

The series also attracted more than 1.1 million entries across the 75-event schedule. The new schedule isn’t out yet, but is expected to be released in the coming weeks.

Brazilian Series breaks record online

For the last two years, the Brazilian Series of Online Poker (BSOP) has moved online to PokerStars. This year’s series featured 25 tournaments with $1.6 million guaranteed.

The results easily topped that total however, paying out more than $1.9 million and producing 48,772 total entries.

The Brazilian Series of Poker (BSOP) continues online at PokerStars from March 24-29 with 24 tournaments and a $1.5 million guarantee.

The $215 two-day Main Event guaranteed $450,000 and ultimately produced a $529,600 prize pool. Russia’s “Alister07”came out on top for $77,556.

In the $530 High Roller, Uruguay’s “kofi89” scored the win for $31,459. Kofi took on a final table where seven of the eight players were Brazilian.

In the race for the country with the most titles, Russia topped the standings with six. The United Kingdom came in second with five followed by Brazil with four.

PokerStars kicks off the MicroMillions series in July for players on the international platform as well as in Southern Europe and Italy.

Small Buy-ins, Big Payouts in PokerStars MicroMillions Series; Total of Almost $9M Guaranteed

PokerStars kicks off the MicroMillions series in July for players on the international platform as well as in Southern Europe and Italy.

PokerStars kicks off the popular MicroMillions series July 15-25 for online poker players on the international platform. The site will be offering $4.7 million in guaranteed prize pools across 122 events.

Buy-ins range from $1.10 to $22, so tournaments are affordable for players of every bankroll. The $22 Main Event is set for July 25 with a $1 million dollar guarantee. That offers a huge payout for such a small buy-in.

The series also runs in Southern Europe and Italy with $8.9 guaranteed across the three platforms.

Inside the PokerStars MicroMillions

Those include Limit Holdem, 2-7 Single Draw, Five-Card PLO, Pot Limit Courchevel, Razz, Badugi, Five Card Draw, Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo, HORSE, and Eight-Game Mix.

Deborah Vanneste is a two-time MicroMillions champion and Twitch streamer from Canada. She streams under the name QueenBeePoker and is excited to get back in the low buy-in action.

“I can’t wait to jump in the MicroMillions PLO tournaments,” Vanneste says. “I am glad to see that Stars continue to offer different mixed games in their events.”

MicroMillions satellites and freerolls

Players can get in the MicroMillions action by winning a satellite via PokerStars popular Spin & Go’s. Grinders can win Main Event seats starting at just $0.50.

Three freerolls are also planned on July 14, 17, and 24 awarding $200,000 in MicroMillions tickets. Players can visit PokerStars’ Twitter and Twitch channels to find special passwords.

MicroMillions also comes to Southern Europe and Italy

Along with the international platform, MicroMillions also heads to PokerStars Southern Europe and Italy from July 18 to Aug. 1.

PokerStars players in France, Spain, and Portugal can play for more than €3 million in guaranteed prizes across 174 events. PokerStars also hosts a €50 Progressive Knockout Main Event on Aug. 1 featuring a €250,000 guarantee.

PKOs are a special type of bounty tournament. When a player eliminates an opponent, that player cashes in 50% of the opponent’s bounty. Those funds go directly into the winning player’s own account.

The other half of that bounty is added to the bounty on the winning player’s head. Every knockout the player wins, the larger the price becomes on his own head. As the tournament progresses, players earn bigger bounties for knocking out opponents

During the same time, PokerStars Italy will host its MicroMillions series with €1.2 million guaranteed among 90 events. The €50 Main Event is planned for Aug. 1 and comes with a €150,000 guarantee. Here’s a look at the complete Southern Europe and Italian schedules:

PokerStars Roundup: French Player Scores €1M Spin & Go, Promotions, Big Name Winners

France's “Nikitaanna” recently scored a massive Spin & Go win at PokerStars for €1 million.

Spin & Go tournaments offer a fun way to play a quick tournament at PokerStars with a shot at some big cash. French player “Nikitaanna” recently chalked up a massive win in one of these three-handed events.

This lucky player turned €5 into a €1 million payday recently. The jackpot becomes just the most recent massive payout to an online poker player via Spin & Goal.

Here’s a look at that win and some other winners and promotions at the site.

Scoring big at PokerStars

A Spin & Go allows three players to battle it out for a random prize determined after all players are registered. The payout can be twice the buy-in all the up to many thousands times the buy-in.

The recent big winner is a 60-year-old recreational and longtime small stakes Spin & Go player. Nikitaanna had previously played real money online poker as a hobby for several years.

“I was really focusing on playing, and trying to make the best of it,” Nikitaanna said. “The pressure was on and I was not putting myself in complicated spots … but I realized soon that I had to be a little bit more aggressive. I believed in myself every second and we played heads up for 10 minutes or so.”

That self-confidence certainly paid off in a big way.

Nice additions for Women’s Sunday

PokerStars continues working to get more women in poker. A big part of that is the Women’s Sunday event and the site is adding even more this week.

Players will find an extra $750 in added value with tournament tickets also awarded for top finishers.

PokerStars is working to bring more women into poker and has announced a permanent cut to the Women’s Sunday tournament buy-in for $22.

The Women’s Sunday winner on June 27 not only scores first-place money but also a $530 tournament ticket. Players finishing second through fifth place also take home $55 tickets.

The weekly $22 event comes with a $2,000 guaranteed prize pool. Late registration and re-entry are available for the first 90 minutes.

Players can also win an entry through satellites running Thursday through Sunday. Qualifiers start at just $0.22.

Big names take titles

At the PokerStars tables, a few big names and PokerStars ambassadors have scored well of late. Poker superstar Adrian Mateos won the $1,500 Sunday High Roller Club event for $37,980 on June 20.

In other Sunday action, Swedish pro Niklas “Lena900” Astedt took down the $1,050 Sunday Cooldown for $20,213, including bounties.

PokerStars streamer Parker “Tonkaaaa” Talbot won a $215 Bounty Builder for $19,504. Here’s a look at his winning moment.

In the United States, PokerStars made some news this year by adding a few poker streamers to its roster of players. The Summer Stacks series is currently underway in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New Jersey and one of those ambassadors took a title.

Ambassador Mark “naigo1” Foresta is a 28-year-old software engineer from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. When not at his regular job, Foresta takes to Twitch when playing poker.

Viewers were recently treated to Foresta securing a Summer Stacks title for $11,000. Here’s a look at his win.

ONLINE POKER STRATEGY: Advice from PokerStars Streamer and Series Host Lex Veldhuis

Lex Veldhuis spoke with PokerScout about his role with PokerStars new "Level Up With Lex" training tool and the feedback so far.

The “Lex Not Live” tournament series continues through the weekend at PokerStars with buy-ins ranging from $11 to $55. The series is hosted by site ambassador Lex Veldhuis and stresses a community aspect seen on Twitch streams.

One of the most popular Twitch Poker streamers, Veldhuis has almost $700,000 in live tournament winnings and more online. A poker pro for 16 years, he’s been streaming his action for the last five years. He spends about $60,000 a month competing in online tournaments.

As Lex Not Live continues, the PokerStars ambassador spoke with PokerScout this week to offer some strategy advice for online players.

♠♠♠ For a complete preview and schedule of the Lex Not Live series, click here. ♠♠♠

Transitioning to online poker

Online poker exploded over the last year and a half. That has included new players jumping in the game. What are some concepts new and intermediate players should keep in mind when adjusting to online poker?

Veldhuis says live poker is an information game and the same is true for online poker. But the online version features a different sense of information.

“You don’t see people and you don’t have the social aspects,” he says. “In online poker, you try to look much more for betting patterns, for instance, or how quickly somebody acts. So it’s a little bit more of a ‘numbers information’ stream.”

Online poker players can get in the action with PokerStars streamer Lex Veldhuis in the “Lex Not Live” series from May 18-23.

Online poker also features much more action than live poker. Hands move faster and some live players may get caught out of their comfort zone. It’s important not to take on more than a player can handle.

“I think that live players can sometimes be caught out in online poker as they can play too many tables when they play online,” Veldhuis says, “because they get super excited and then all of a sudden they’re playing six tournaments, and they’re not playing their best on all of them. So, I think that’s something they should take into account.”

Avoiding common bankroll mistakes

As players go online, some may be tempted to play bigger buy-in events hoping for a large score. Veldhuis recommends avoiding this pitfall. Stay within your bankroll to gradually move up as a player finds success.

“I think that a lot of people jump in a bit too high because you can play more games and can play games at the same time,” he says. “It’s easier to play a little bit lower and better.

“If you go to a live tournament, you may normally play a $200 tournament. You travel to a live tournament so that’s worth it, right. But if you play online and play a similar buy-in, you don’t get that whole trip for it and you can play multiple ones at the same time for that buy-in.”

Players who may be accustomed to playing $200 events in a live setting may not be at the same level online. Multiple buy-ins at that level may sink a bankroll because the action moves so quickly. A few quick eliminations can deplete those poker funds.

“It’s a new beast that you’re trying to approach, so if I was a new player online, I would definitely step down a few levels,” he says. “See what it’s like, play a few tournaments at the same time and not too many. Online and live are two different games, and I think it’s good to approach that with care.”

Lex Veldhuis battling it out at the live tables of the European Poker Tour.

Strategy advice for playing new games

Lex Not Live features some unique games many players may not have played, such as Fusion and 6+ Hold’em. How should players who have never played them before approach these games?

Veldhuis says many players jumping in these events during Lex Note Live will actually be in the same boat.

“The good thing about these games and these tournaments specifically is that a lot of the players that are playing will be community players that watch Twitch a lot and that go to Lex Live,” he says. “So that means that you’re not going to play against people that grind Six-Card PLO or play Fusion a lot.

“There’s a lot of people in these tournaments that are discovering the game for the first time, so that makes it a little bit more of a level playing field.”

For those completely new, Veldhuis suggests reading through the rules thoroughly. Consider some possible strategies as you adjust to the new format.

“Don’t play too many tables and just play and pay attention to what happens on the table,” he says. “See how other people do and what their strategies are, and see if you can pick up something interesting from that.”

Lex Not Live also features lower buy-in levels with most events priced at $11. This offers players a chance to try something new without breaking the bank.

“Also, new games give you a pretty cool perspective on a different way a poker game can be played,” Veldhuis says, “which sometimes gives you also some inspiration for a No Limit Hold’em game, for instance.”

Moving from No Limit Hold’em to PLO

A few events in Veldhuis’s series feature Pot Limit Omaha (PLO). The game continues to grow in popularity and he offered some advice for Hold’em players looking to play.

“It’s a completely different game, a lot of people go into PLO with a No Limit Hold’em mindset,” he says. “They check to the raiser a lot or to the person who bet the previous street. But PLO’s a very dynamic game. The board changes a lot. The board favors different players throughout the whole hand.

“A four-card hand in PLO from the big blind covers completely the lower part of the board, so there’s a lot of possibilities there to lead at a pot on the turn or the river if straights get to the board. That’s just a specific example where you normally would check to a raiser in No Limit Hold’em.”

In PLO, bet sizes should also be a lot bigger, he says. Hands have a higher percentage to beat another PLO hand than a random Hold’em hand against a random Hold’em hand.

“You’re almost never drawing dead,” Veldhuis says. “You have a big percentage to win hands. That also means that when you have a good hand you have to protect those hands. Try to look at the game not with a Hold’em mindset but be open minded.

“Again, look at what you see around you. A lot of times when you’re discovering a new game, if someone does something super annoying to you, that means that you can also try to employ that strategy.”

For example, a player may bet the pot every time there’s a straight on the board on the turn. You continue to fold two pairs in spots like this. That’s something to consider doing yourself.

Veldhuis stresses to play with an open mind and don’t think too much with a No Limit Hold’em brain.

Advantages of playing online and watching Twitch streams

Obviously Veldhuis is a fan of online poker. Those new to the game have a chance to get more experience at a quicker pace.

Players can see more hands, and it’s simpler to just sit down and play immediately. There’s also no need or cost to travel.

Twitch viewers can also learn while watching others play. Watching a stream like Veldhuis’s offers players some new perspectives on the game. Many of the more popular streamers are winning players with experience and have a lot to offer.

“One thing that I think will teach you a lot more when you watch is to try and look at a hand and think to yourself, ‘what would I do here before the streamer explains it?’” Veldhuisa says. “You see a turn card, ‘what would I do? Would I bet here?’

“And be honest to yourself. I think if the Twitch streamer is talking and you’re just listening to the words and you’re like, ‘well, yeah, super logical to bet this turn,’ even though you wouldn’t really be able to form an opinion about that on your own or to come up with a strategy.”

The process can be very interactive. Players should be amenable to new perspectives and strategies, Veldhuis says.

“I think one of the most important things in poker learning is keeping an open mind and not trying to put a label on something immediately if you think something’s good or bad just because you’re not familiar with it,” Veldhuis says. “From an educational point of view, I think that’s a really important thing to keep in mind.”

He believes that advice includes being open to new games. Seeing some strategies and some games may inspire a player to branch out with new ideas in other games.

“If you like to explore new things in poker, going back to No Limit Hold’em after that will kind of reignite your passion for it and your interest in it,” he says. “It’s just fun because there are so many different forms of poker.

“You know the basic rules, you know the hand strengths, and there’s more than one game, and I think it’s important to keep discovering that. And that’s fun with smaller tournament series as well.”
