PokerStars Unveils new Chest & Ladders, Freeroll Options to Win Platinum Passes, Cash Prizes

With two months until the PokerStars Players Championship in the Bahamas, the site has announced even Platinum Pass opportunities.

With just over two months until the PokerStars Players Championship (PSPC) gets underway in the Bahamas, the online poker site has announced even more opportunities to win a Platinum Pass on Monday.

PokerStars is offering even more opportunities for players to earn a seat into the $25,000 buy-in event and a complete travel package.

Through Dec. 11, players can look for a special edition of Chests & Ladders. The promotion offers online poker players the chance to win one of the biggest prizes in the game.

How to win a PokerStars Platinum Pass

Those looking to cash in for some big prizes have a few options at PokerStars. Some of the  Chests & Ladders rewards offered include seven Platinum Passes for the PSPC, which is set for Jan. 30 – Feb. 3 at the Baha Mar Resort in Nassau.

Players on the .COM platform have a chance to win a share of over $500,000 in rewards. That includes four Platinum Passes up for grabs, valued at $30,000 each. Each pass includes:

  • $25,000 PSPC buy-in
  • six nights hotel accommodations for each winner and a guest in a five-star hotel
  • flights and airport transfers
  • $1,900 in spending money
  • unique Platinum Pass winner experiences during the event

Players in France and Spain are also in luck, with €150,000 in rewards available as well as three Platinum Passes. As part of the promotion, players will find a number of PSPC Chests. Each contains an instant reward, which could be a Platinum Pass.

Upon completing the game board, an additional PSPC Chest is dropped. This holds an even bigger instant reward, which also provides a second opportunity for a pass.

More details on  Chests & Ladders promotion

To get involved, players must be a PokerStars Rewards member. Competitors must opt in to the promotion via the “Challenges” window in their accounts.

Players can then take part in real money games to complete progress bars. Eventually players will see a Chest dropped, containing a dice roll for Chests & Ladders. Here’s a look at the next steps in the process:

  • Progress along the number of squares that is shown on the dice.
  • Land on a ladder enabling a player to climb upwards, making it to the end of the board faster.
  • Land on a PSPC Chest to receive an instant personalized reward. This is based on a player’s activity and could include cash, tournament tickets, or free spins. Platinum Passes are also in the mix here as well.
  • Make it to square 49 or beyond to receive a final PSPC Chest. This contains bigger rewards and another chance to win a pass. Two are available on the international .COM platform and one for the France/Spain platform.

Even more chances for a Platinum Pass

All players who don’t win Platinum Pass through the above options still have a chance. These users are entered into the Chests & Ladders Platinum Pass Edition Freeroll.

One final prize is on the line. Any of those Platinum Passes not previously awarded will also become available as well.

The freeroll is set for Dec. 13 with at least $80,000 in guaranteed prices for .COM players. Players in France and Spain will find €50,000 up for grabs. Plenty of action and free cash await players in the coming weeks at PokerStars.

PokerStars Outlines New Live Events Including Updates on PPC, Platinum Passes; PCA Returns

PokerStars announced some added live stops on Friday as well as details on the second PokerStars Players Championship.

Live poker is back and PokerStars announced some major expansion of the company’s upcoming schedule on Friday. That includes details on the second PokerStars Players Championship (PSPC), which returns to the Bahamas in January at the Baha Mar resort.

The announcement follows a successful Prague stop on the European Poker Tour (EPT). More stop on that tour is now on the way as well as more regional tour events.

“We have missed our live events as much as our players, so it is our true pleasure to announce the PokerStars Players Championship will take place at Baha Mar in January,”  Stars managing director and commercial officer Severin Rasset said in a news release.

“Beautiful location, hundreds of qualifiers, with millions to win. If there is one tournament to choose for a once-in-a-lifetime experience, it will be the PSPC. We will provide more details soon on how to get your hands on a Platinum Pass – stay tuned!”

PSPC, Platinum Passes return to PokerStars

News of the PSC’s return may be the biggest part of Friday’s announcement. Stars ran the first event in 2019, giving away hundreds of Platinum Passes along the way.

These entitled winners to a $30,000 travel package that included a $25,000 buy-in for the event.

The tournament saw 1,039 entries for a $26.5 million prize pool. Spain’s Ramon Colillas cashed in on a Platinum Pass and won the tournament for $5.1 million.

The COVID pandemic delayed the second event, which was originally planned for Barcelona. PokerStars now moves that event back to the Bahamas with the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) also returning.

The PCA heads to the Bahamas from Jan. 22 – Feb. 3 at the new location of the Baha Mar. The PSPC will again be part of the action, running Jan. 30 – Feb. 3.

As in the run up to the first PSPC, the company plans on handing out more Platinum Passes to online poker players and poker fans around the world.

“Players can come together for this unique event,” PokerStars notes, “to enjoy the winter sunshine and kick off 2023 at what PokerStars plans to be an unforgettable celebration and an even bigger and better PSPC, with hundreds of Platinum Pass winners set to attend.”

More PokerStars EPT events on tap

PokerStars also outlined more events in the announcement including the EPT heading to Barcelona and Prague again this year. EPT Barcelona runs Aug. 8-21 at the Casino Barcelona.

The series features plenty of tournaments to choose from including a €1,100 ESPT event and €5,300 Main Event.

Additionally, EPT Prague plays out Dec. 7-18 at King’s Casino in Czech Republic. Players can expect a full slate of tournaments including a €5,300 Main Event from Dec. 12-18.

A Eureka Tour €1,100 Main Event is also planned for Dec. 8-12. Players can win their way to these events via online qualifiers. Satellites are running for free on the site or jump in a qualifier for as little as €1.10. These are expected to start soon.

Regional tour action ramping up; Dublin, Malta events planned

PokerStars also plans the return of some of its regional tours and offered more details on Friday.

After six years, PokerStars UKIPT (United Kingdom and Ireland Poker Tour) returns to Dublin from May 16-22 at the Bonnington Hotel. Online satellites for these events start today for as little as €1.10.

Also, for the first time PokerStars will sponsor a Summer Poker Festival running from June 18-26 in Malta. The series’ Main Event will be a joint UKIPT and ESPT event. The company plans to release more online satellite information for these series soon.

PokerStars Forced to Delay Players Championship, Pass Winners in Waiting Game

The PokerStars Players No Limit Hold’em Championship (PSPC) has been cancelled this year, the company announced this week.

The PokerStars Players No Limit Hold’em Championship (PSPC) has been cancelled this year, the company announced this week. The event was set for August at Casino Barcelona in Spain.

This would have been the second PSPC after PokerStars ran the event in the Bahamas in 2019.

“We are excitedly looking ahead to a later date when we can truly celebrate being back with our community with a bang when the time is right,” the company noted in a news release.

PokerStars spectacular on hold with hopes to plan event the future

The first PSPC became the biggest $25,000 buy-in poker tournament in history. PokerStars offered Platinum Passes throughout 2018 for winners online, in small buy-in live events as part of the Chris Moneymaker Tour, and social media contests.

The tournament awarded more than $26.4 million to 181 players with 43 of those being Platinum Pass winners. The final table produced six players taking home scores of more than $1 million.

Spain’s Ramon Colillas entered the event as a Platinum Pass winner and topped the massive field for $5.1 million. The unique event brought together an interesting mix of pros and amateurs.

Platinum Pass winners not only secured a buy-in but also an all-expenses paid trip to the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas.

COVID cancels PokerStars PSPC again

PokerStars hoped to relive some of the event’s excitement in 2020. The Coronavirus pandemic, however, cut those plans short.

This year’s cancellation means players will have to wait at least another year. The company hasn’t offered an alternative date but promised to offer regular updates.

“We know that this further news will come as a disappointment to many hoping the PSPC would take place this year,” the company said, “but our priority is the safety and good health of all our players and staff, as well as the communities that host such large events.”

This postponement won’t affect any players who have already won Platinum Passes. In total, PokerStars has already awarded passes to 400 players.

The company promises more promotions in the future awarding more.

“We look forward to highlighting our Platinum Pass winners, sharing their amazing stories and creating that brilliant community of winners that we had in our inaugural event,” PokerStars noted.

“Our Platinum Pass winners are a very special community and we will continue to plan activities and surprises in the run-up to the event, albeit with a longer than expected lead time. We promise it will be worth the wait.”

Battle for PokerStars Platinum Passes continues

Beyond the birthday bash, 2020 is again a big year for the company for other reasons. PokerStars announced in August that the Platinum Pass promotion would be revived in 2019-20.

Several of those coveted prizes have already been awarded with more packages up for grabs throughout the year. The €22,500 buy-in ($25,000) PokerStars Players Championship (PSPC) is set for Aug. 20-24 in Barcelona, Spain.

A Platinum Pass includes a buy-in for the event and a complete travel getaway Barcelona. It is one of the most coveted prizes in poker and the buzz should build throughout the year.

A two-time Platinum Pass winner ready for Barcelona

Canada’s Jennifer Carter made some news recently after winning her second straight Platinum Pass. Carter enjoys playing small-stakes tournaments on the site via mobile phone.

In 2018, she topped a field on more than 21,000 players in an online freeroll to win her seat in the Bahamas. Amazingly, she won yet another pass in October.

That came after starting out in a $2 Mega Path tournament. She then moved up three more steps to earn a seat in Barcelona this August. She’s now one of just three people to have won a Platinum Pass twice.

She told the PokerStars blog that she tried the $2 Mega Path route about 50 times before hitting paydirt. Her story shows how the event appealed to small-stakes players and professionals alike.

“I don’t know how I did it,” she told the PokerStars blog. “Because it’s me. I can’t beat $.01/.02 online! It’s unbelievable. I was literally baking muffins during this tournament, doing dishes.

“And then in Step 4 I was just sitting in my bed knitting. I don’t have a bankroll because I can’t even win a $1 tournament. But I can win the biggest ones. I just don’t get it.”

PokerStars awarded more than 300 Platinum Passes over 13 months for the inaugural PSPC in January 2019. The event was held at the Atlantis Resort and Casino in the Bahamas and featured a $26 million prize pool.

Platinum Pass winner Ramon Colillas topped a field of 1,039 to take home $5.1 million. Carter will once again be among the field in Barcelona hoping for a deep run.

“It feels like full circle right now,” she said. “I’m thrilled. It’s unbelievable.”
