Popular YouTuber and PokerStars ambassador Brian “True Geordie” Davis is heading to the European Poker Tour Barcelona. The poker player, podcast host, and Twitch streamer will host a special edition of True Geordie: The Showdown live from the upcoming tournament stop.
EPT Barcelona is set for Aug. 8-21 with a range of live tournaments and three Platinum Passes on the line. True Geordie’s appearance is the latest addition to the fun.
The Showdown is a home-game style tournament with a £5,300 EPT London Main Event ticket as the top prize.
A few of the players in the mix include Team PokerStars streamers Lex Veldhuis and Ben “Spraggy” Spragg. PokerStars’ commentator and comedian Joe “Stapes” Stapleton will also be part of the action.
Along with that news, PokerStars also recently detailed a special event for several women to compete for a Platinum Pass. The company also finalized the EPT Barcelona streaming schedule.
Plenty of ‘Showdown’ fun ahead at PokerStars
As part of the home game action, Davis and the other players in the table engage in plenty of discussion throughout the event. This isn’t a high roller affair where there is little table banter.
Davis works to make the action fun with plenty of entertaining chit-chat at the table. The tournament will stream on the True Geordie and PokerStars Twitch channels for poker fans around the world. The Stars YouTube channel will also feature the event. Those in the tournament area can also check out the action live.
“I am incredibly proud to take our premier poker talk show The Showdown on the road this August where we will be broadcasting live from Barcelona,” True Geordie said in a news release. “Enabling our fans from around the world to come and see the show in person is something we’ve dreamt of doing and we can’t wait to bring social poker to Spain.”
From Newcastle, England, Davis got his start by releasing videos of his opinions on his hometown Newcastle United Football Club. His channel and platform have since grown to include his True Geordie Podcast and True News reaction videos.
Davos also hosts a weekly football live stream called The Kick Off. His media presence has also expanded to include poker streams on occasion as well.
Special tournament for inspiring female poker players set for Barcelona
Beyond the tournament action and True Geordie stream, Stars is also hosting another special event. Several female poker players from around the world head to Barcelona to play live in a special single-table tournament. These competitors will compete for a Platinum Pass and include:
- Daiva Byrne – (Lithuania; now Manchester, United Kingdom)
- Giada Shiyan Fang (Malta)
- Aurélie Reard – (Paris, France; now Cardiff, Wales)
- Christina Read (Georgia)
- Katie Stone (New Jersey)
- Lexi Sterner (Florida)
- Meichelle Culhane (Oklahoma)
- Terri Hatcher (Texas)
A Platinum Pass is valued at $30,000 and includes an entry and complete travel package to the $25,000 PokerStars Players Championship (PSPC) poker tournament next year in the Bahamas.
The women won a spot into the Barcelona event as part of Stars’ International Women’s Day activities in 2020. Poker players nominated inspirational women in poker as part of the promotion.
However, the PSPC was delayed because of the COVID pandemic but is now going forward in the Bahamas in 2023. PokerStars will stream the event on Aug. 15 (see more on that below).
