Other events may feature several recreational players battling pros at a casino.<\/p>\n<p><b>Phil Hellmuth<\/b> recently announced he\u2019d be involved in a MUG on Aug. 25 at the <strong>Bicycle Casino <\/strong>in <strong>California<\/strong>. Those interested in playing can register the day of the event and then jump in the action.<\/p>\n<p>Hellmuth told <em>US Poker<\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI think meetup games are great for poker. It allows poker streamers and stars to connect with their fans. This also allows casinos to pay the streamers and stars to play.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While the casino may pay a fee to players, the property brings in more players to check out the event. And in this case, that includes possibly playing.<\/p>\n<p>The poker takes on a home game type of feel, Hellmuth says, with everyone enjoying the action and having fun. It seems a fitting style of event at a time when \u201cputting the fun back in poker\u201d has been a common theme.<\/p>\n<p>Hellmuth thinks it a \u201cwin-win-win.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe casino gets more rake and press, the fans get to play with the stars, and the stars get paid. Usually, the atmosphere is very festive.\u00a0 Everyone is happy to be there.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2><span id=\"more_poker_players_more_fun\">More poker players, more fun<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Hellmuth is no stranger to these types of games. He\u2019s been involved in home games with recreational players in the past. He\u2019s also played in games on shows like <strong>Poker Night in America<\/strong> with similar elements.<\/p>\n<p>Love him or hate, <strong>the Poker Brat moves the needle<\/strong> in the poker world.<\/p>\n<p>The event at the Bike has Hellmuth particularly excited. The property paid him an appearance fee, but the Poker Brat said he spread some of that around to make it a better event.<\/p>\n<p>Hellmuth is investing some of his fees in the success of the event.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cOut of my own pocket, I hired Mike \u2018The Mouth,\u2019 Randall Emmit, and Brandon Cantu. For me, it\u2019s not about maximizing the dollars for this meet-up game. If I\u2019m involved, then I want it to be the best it can be. I want the best possible experience for the fans. I want a real event. I want 100 fans to show up.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Poker vloggers and streamers have made use of meetups in recent years to connect with fans. That includes players like <b>Andrew Neeme<\/b> and <b>Brad Owen<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Content creators like Neeme and Owen can add an extra level of connection to their fans. That includes even recording the action to add to their channels or streams.<\/p>\n<p>Neeme and Owen create a <strong>party atmosphere<\/strong> at their meetup games with plenty of cocktails, interesting twists like deuce-seven, and bomb pots.<\/p>\n<p>The waitlists are long and the laughter is loud and the fun doesn\u2019t stop when the last card is dealt, either. You can usually spot the whole crowd heading to the bar for an after-party.<\/p>\n<p>While the majority of Neeme\u2019s MUGs happen in Las Vegas, <strong>Nevada<\/strong>, he and Owen have hosted MUGS all around the country, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Texas<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Illinois<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Maryland<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Peter Ivy, an attendee at one of Neeme\u2019s MUGs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/peter.ivy.1\/posts\/10102705099870392\">said<\/a> this on Facebook,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cJust an all-around enjoyable time. Can\u2019t say enough about these meetups. Just have to experience it for yourself.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2><span id=\"open_seating_streaming_and_plenty_of_fun\">Open seating, streaming, and plenty of fun<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>While it may not have been a meet-up game per se, <b>PokerGO<\/b> added some regular Joe action to <b>Poker After Dark<\/b>\u00a0last week. A recreational player was featured both nights as part of \u201cOpen Seat\u201d night.<\/p>\n<p>Players qualified to play in the <strong>Open Seat<\/strong> by responding to a PokerGO Tweet. Those interested offered their motivations for wanting to be on the show. Players were selected based on their responses.<\/p>\n<p>Poker Central\/PokerGO senior editor Remko Rinkema says,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe\u2019re always looking to create a blend of the best personalities and players for our live cash game shows such as Poker After Dark and Super High Roller Cash Game. The first edition of \u2018Open Seat\u2019 was successful and very well received by both players and fans.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Both nights featured Matusow, Cantu, <strong>Trevor Savage<\/strong>, <strong>Justin Young<\/strong>, and others.<\/p>\n<p><b>Brandon Schaefer<\/b> was one of those \u201cOpen Seat\u201d players. He won the <b>EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final<\/b> in the tour\u2019s first season in 2005 for $465,853.<\/p>\n<p>Schaefer played on the show after a few years away from the poker world. He served in the military as a medevac helicopter pilot in <strong>Afghanistan<\/strong>. A second edition of \u201cOpen Seat\u201d is planned for December.<\/p>\n<p>On Oct. 22-23, PokerGO is also airing <strong>Showbound<\/strong> on Poker After Dark, in partnership with the <strong>RunGood Poker Series<\/strong>. That should have a similar meet-up game feel with two qualifiers from the RPS playing in a $5,000 sit and go tournament with their favorite pros.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"a_festive_atmosphere_planned\">A festive atmosphere planned<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As the Bike event approaches, Hellmuth looks forward to playing and the atmosphere that comes with it. Does the \u201cpoker brat\u201d in him ever come out in these games?<\/p>\n<p>Maybe not quite as much as losing a big hand at the WSOP. However, fans are occasionally \u201ctreated\u201d to a bit of what they might see on TV.<\/p>\n<p>Hellmuth commented on is demeanor at the games,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cSometimes I\u2019ll take a bad beat. I\u2019ll sit there for a second, and you can hear a pin drop. Then, with a sly smile on my face, I\u2019ll say \u2018Come on man!\u2019 and everyone will laugh.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Matusow, who recently launched a new podcast called <strong>The Mouthpiece<\/strong>, is also looking forward to the meetup. He doesn\u2019t plan on letting Hellmuth get away with too much. He adds: \u201cI will always needle Phil.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While poker players in <strong>Pennsylvania<\/strong> are waiting to join New Jersey at the online poker table, they may want to explore a MUG
