{"id":3755,"date":"2018-03-29T20:44:42","date_gmt":"2018-03-29T20:44:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pokerscout.com\/?p=3755"},"modified":"2018-03-30T14:41:00","modified_gmt":"2018-03-30T14:41:00","slug":"new-aga-board-members-likely-pop-pa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pokerscout.com\/new-aga-board-members-likely-pop-pa\/","title":{"rendered":"Which New AGA Board Members Are Most Likely To Pop Up In PA?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>American Gaming Association<\/strong>\u00a0(AGA) recently welcomed six new Board-level members:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>BMM Testlabs<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Choctaw Casinos and Resorts<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Golden Entertainment<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>GVC Holdings PLC<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Paddy Power Betfair<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The Stars Group<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cAdding these six industry leaders will help our ability to serve as an effective advocate for the industry as a whole, and we\u2019re excited to add their expertise to our Board,\u201d said <strong>Geoff Freeman<\/strong>, president, and CEO of AGA in a March 15\u00a0press release.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"about_the_aga\">About the AGA<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The AGA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americangaming.org\/about\">counts itself<\/a> as the \u201csingle most effective champion of the industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In Freeman\u2019s statement above, he references the \u201cindustry as a whole.\u201d And while not an advocate for <strong>online gaming<\/strong> per se, AGA is an advocate for the <strong>legal expansion of the gaming industry<\/strong> in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>The AGA website <strong>doesn\u2019t<\/strong> list an official policy position for online gaming. However, three of its six new members have ties to the online gaming and are currently offering online gaming products in <strong>New Jersey<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The additions of these members into the organization that represents the <strong>$240 billion U.S. casino industry<\/strong> is notable. It is an important signal of support as <strong>Pennsylvania<\/strong> gets ready to enter both the brick and mortar and online gambling markets this year.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"half_of_the_new_aga_members_have_ties_to_online_gaming\">Half of the new AGA members have ties to online gaming<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>GVC Holdings PLC, Paddy Power Betfair, and The Stars Group currently operate in New Jersey. As Pennsylvania begins accepting applications for PA online casino licenses, it is likely these three companies<strong> will be in the mix<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Expect Pennsylvania to join the U.S. <strong>shared liquidity pool<\/strong> for online poker when it comes online later this year. Sharing liquidity between states originated with <strong>Nevada<\/strong> and <strong>Delaware<\/strong>. New Jersey <strong>agreed to join<\/strong> the liquidity pool in late 2017, but it has yet to be implemented.<\/p>\n<p>Sharing liquidity is important because Pennsylvania has a population of<strong> 12.8 million residents<\/strong>. That figure is approximately the same population as Nevada, Delaware, and New Jersey<strong> combined<\/strong>. So it makes sense that an online gaming operator in New Jersey will want to <strong>secure a position<\/strong> in the Pennsylvania market.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"potential_partnerships_in_the_pennsylvania_online_gaming_market\">Potential partnerships in the Pennsylvania online gaming market<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>GVC, as the parent company to <strong>partypoker<\/strong>, is currently partnered with\u00a0<strong>Borgata<\/strong> and <strong>PlayMGM<\/strong> in New Jersey. Borgata Poker and partypoker already share a player pool in the state. There is speculation that GVC will partner with <strong>Valley Forge<\/strong>, located in <strong>King of Prussia<\/strong>, PA, just outside of <strong>Philadelphia<\/strong>, to bring the partypoker platform to Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>The Stars Group, the parent company of <strong>PokerStars<\/strong> and <strong>PokerStars Casino<\/strong> partnered with <strong>Resorts AC<\/strong> in New Jersey. <strong>Mohegan Sun<\/strong> managers Resorts and also owns the <strong>Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs<\/strong> in Pennsylvania. The existing relationship between the Stars Group and Mohegan Sun make a partnership in Pennsylvania <strong>highly likely<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In a Q3 earnings <a href=\"https:\/\/seekingalpha.com\/article\/4122923-stars-groups-tsg-ceo-rafi-ashkenazi-q3-2017-results-earnings-call-transcript?part=single\">call<\/a>, Stars Group CEO <strong>Rafi Ashkenazi<\/strong> confirmed his interest in entering the Pennsylvania market.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe are poised to take advantage of the positive momentum in the growth of online gaming globally and the continued march towards regulation, including in the United States where we aim to be among the first operators to launch in Pennsylvania when that state opens its door to online poker and casino.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Paddy Power Betfair also has ties to the New Jersey market. <strong>Betfair<\/strong> is one of the <strong>most popular<\/strong> skins and operates under <strong>Golden Nugget<\/strong> in the <strong>Garden State<\/strong>. While no potential partnerships have hit the rumor mill just yet, it would be surprising to see Paddy Power Betfair <strong>sit this one out<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"how_online_gaming_in_pennsylvania_can_help_the_aga\">How online gaming in Pennsylvania can help the AGA<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The \u201cindustry as a whole,\u201d as Freeman put it, <strong>benefits<\/strong> when the regulation and legalization of online gaming spread\u00a0throughout the U.S. in the U.S. Pennsylvania makes a case for that much stronger.<\/p>\n<p>It was no surprise when Nevada and New Jersey embraced online gaming because of their long history within the gaming industry.<\/p>\n<p>Pennsylvania <strong>doesn\u2019t have that history<\/strong>. Pennsylvania is also the first state to take a comprehensive approach to online gaming with legislation that addresses <strong>casino<\/strong>, <strong>poker<\/strong>, <strong>online\u00a0lottery<\/strong>, and potentially\u00a0<strong>sports betting<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>With online gaming revenues in New Jersey hovering in <strong>record territory<\/strong>, states will be looking at Pennsylvania\u2019s performance as they enter the market.<\/p>\n<p>With companies invested in online gaming in the boardroom, AGA is setting the stage for <strong>taking an official position<\/strong> on online gaming and furthering its mission of advocating for the entire gaming industry.<\/p>\n<p>The post Which New AGA Board Members Are Most Likely To Pop Up In PA?
