However, in 2014, a scam at <strong>Mohegan Sun Pocono<\/strong> over Easter was not a prank.<\/p>\n<p>This month, former Mohegan Sun executive <strong>Robert Pellegrini<\/strong> was arraigned on charges related to the scam. Pellegrini allegedly tried to rig a<strong> $10,000 Easter promotion<\/strong> at the Pennsylvania casino.<\/p>\n<p>Pellegrini was charged with the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Theft<\/li>\n<li>Receipt of stolen property<\/li>\n<li>Criminal conspiracy to commit money laundering<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Interestingly enough, Pellegrini is currently serving a nearly three-year sentence on charges related to an<strong> entirely different scam<\/strong> at the casino.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"promotion_featured_a_10000_plastic_egg\">Promotion featured a $10,000 plastic egg<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesleader.com\/news\/699705\/former-casino-executive-arraigned-on-easter-promotion-scam\">details in the<strong> Times Leader<\/strong><\/a>, the promotion featured a basket of plastic eggs containing various prizes. Allegedly, Pellegrini conspired to rig the contest so a particular customer selected the winning egg, which included a <strong>$10,000 cash prize<\/strong>. After the contest, the winner, <strong>Mark Heltzer<\/strong>, supposedly kicked back some of the winnings to Pellegrini and his two associates.<\/p>\n<p>Heltzel was <strong>not arraigned<\/strong> on any charges.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"this_is_the_second_casino_scam_tied_to_pellegrini\">This is the second casino scam tied to Pellegrini<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>During his time at Mohegan Sun, Pellegrini served as the <strong>VP of Player Development<\/strong> for the property. He is currently serving time for an entirely different scam he ran at the casino.<\/p>\n<p>This con <strong>also involved Weltzel<\/strong>. The two, along with a cocktail server,<strong> stole PIN\u00a0numbers<\/strong> off of player rewards cards at the property. Pellegrini would use these numbers to load free credit onto <strong>duplicate player rewards cards<\/strong>. He then gave those to Heltzel to play.<\/p>\n<p>From 2014 to 2015, Heltzel gambled with almost<strong> $480,000 in free play credits<\/strong>, generating <strong>$420,000 in profits<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The courts determined Pellegrini was the ringleader behind the scam and sentenced him to <strong>32 months in federal prison<\/strong>. He began serving that sentence last June.<\/p>\n<p>While Heltzel is not currently facing charges in the Easter scam, he was sentenced to <strong>18 months<\/strong> for his role in the player fraud activity.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"will_these_mean_more_fines_for_mohegan_sun\">Will these mean more fines for Mohegan Sun?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As a result of the loyalty scam, the <strong>Pennsylvania\u00a0Gaming Control Board<\/strong> (PGCB) fined the casino <strong>$550,000<\/strong>. This fine came at the same time as the casino racked up a <strong>$450,000 fine<\/strong> for working with two vendors that <strong>did not<\/strong> have the proper casino licenses.<\/p>\n<p>There are no convictions in the Easter scam as of now. However, as with any fraud issues at a casino, there will almost certainly be a <strong>PGCB investigation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Certainly, it appears as though Pellegrini was a bad egg who is no longer an employee at the casino.
