{"id":6334,"date":"2018-05-14T18:21:07","date_gmt":"2018-05-14T18:21:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pokerscout.com\/?p=6334"},"modified":"2018-05-15T00:38:22","modified_gmt":"2018-05-15T00:38:22","slug":"stadium-casino-narrowing-down-satellite-casino-host-contenders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pokerscout.com\/stadium-casino-narrowing-down-satellite-casino-host-contenders\/","title":{"rendered":"Stadium Casino Narrowing Down Satellite Casino Host Contenders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Westmoreland County<\/strong>, your time is coming.<\/p>\n<p>The northwest <strong>Pennsylvania<\/strong> county will be the site of a <strong>satellite casino<\/strong> belonging to <strong>Stadium Gaming LLC<\/strong>, the development group who is in the early stages of building a casino in Philadelphia and who won a mini-casino license this past January.<\/p>\n<p>Per the <strong>Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board\u2019s<\/strong> (PGCB) regulations, Stadium Casino has until<strong> June<\/strong> to reveal the <strong>exact location<\/strong> of their little casino, a location that will fall within a 15-mile radius of <strong>Derry Township<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"potential_sites_create_suspense\">Potential sites create suspense<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There are more than a dozen towns and cities within 15 miles of Derry Township, including <strong>Unity<\/strong>, <strong>Greensburg<\/strong>,\u00a0and <strong>Hempfield<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>PA news station <strong>WPXI<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpxi.com\/news\/top-stories\/mini-casino-are-mini-casinos-worth-the-gamble\/747061807\">reported<\/a> that Derry Township has already <strong>submitted a proposal<\/strong> for having a casino in their town.<\/p>\n<p>Basically, towns are courting Stadium Casino in an effort to win a competition akin to <strong>The Bachelor<\/strong>. In the end, the casino chooses one winner and scores of dejected runners-up are left to weep in the proverbial limo.<\/p>\n<p>While tears may not be part of the aftermath of the developer\u2019s upcoming decision, there certainly will be<strong> crushed dreams<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Being the host of a new casino is a tremendous opportunity. It increases vehicle traffic, which results in an influx of revenue for gas stations, restaurants, hotels, and local businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Potential host cities are well aware of the potential economic benefit. Derry, Greensburg, Hempfield, Unity,\u00a0and <strong>Salem<\/strong> have all expressed interest.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"city_leaders_transparent_in_their_desire_for_satellite\">City leaders transparent in their desire for satellite<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Penn Live<\/strong> published an <a href=\"http:\/\/triblive.com\/local\/westmoreland\/13358793-74\/hempfield-hopes-to-be-mini-casino-home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">article<\/a> this past February that included quotes from leaders in each of these towns:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hempfield Supervisor <strong>Rob Ritson<\/strong>, about competing towns: \u201cThey all want it.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Greensburg City Planning Director <strong>Barbara Ciampini<\/strong>: \u201cWe\u2019re more than willing to have a mini-casino in Greensburg.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Derry Township Supervisor<strong> David Slifka<\/strong>: \u201cWe have a good area. We feel it could work out for Derry Township and the casino people.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is unclear exactly how Stadium chooses their location. It\u2019s likely that location, infrastructure, and other factors will come into play. For example, Greensburg is <strong>20 minutes from Interstate 70<\/strong>. It sprawls across Pennsylvania routes <strong>119<\/strong> and <strong>30<\/strong> and is minutes away from PA <strong>Route 66<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For Westmoreland County, though, the exact location of the casino won\u2019t matter, per se. The county hopes to earn between<strong> $700,000<\/strong> and <strong>$1 million<\/strong> each year from the satellite, Westmoreland County Commissioner <strong>Gina Cervelli<\/strong> told PA news station <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpxi.com\/news\/top-stories\/mini-casino-are-mini-casinos-worth-the-gamble\/747061807\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WPXI<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"penn_national_also_revealing_location_in_june\">Penn National also revealing location in June<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Stadium Casino will be the second group announcing their satellite location. Penn National will be the first.\u00a0They snagged the first satellite license auctioned by the state in mid-January. The casino will be somewhere in<strong> York County<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Right now, the casino is allegedly looking at three parcels in <strong>Hellam Township<\/strong> off Route 30.<\/p>\n<p>That land includes the <strong>Mifflin House<\/strong>, which was used as a safe house for the Underground Railroad. The location is a historic site. Penn National would preserve the building if they were to develop the land parcels.<\/p>\n<p>Their interest in the area, as well as their intention to preserve the home, was enough to get township supervisors to <strong>unanimously<\/strong> decide to <strong>opt-in<\/strong> to allowing a mini-casino after they had initially opted out.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, the township\u2019s superiors denied a 2017 request from an equity firm to obtain a demolition permit that would allow them to tear down the Mifflin House and develop the land.<\/p>\n<p>The post Stadium Casino Narrowing Down Satellite Casino Host Contenders appeared first on Play Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Westmoreland County, your time is coming.
